Anyone have Google Fi for cell phone service? Bought a new Samsung S23 ultra from them at $600 off if I ported in my # and kept service for 120 days. Curious how their coverage is as I currently have Xfinity Mobile.

I only use it when I go international since it is overall cheaper than what Verizon offers. After some bumps trying to get it configured right, it works great.

If any of you are debating education or certs the DoD just put them on the same level for cyber security jobs.

And they are basically putting anything IT related in the the category of Cyber Security these days if you work in a facility that processes their data.

The important part is this:

Prior to this release, I'm pretty sure certs were not mentioned as equivalent to education. Specifically for upper management or leadership roles.

We've been using it for years with no problem.

On the topic of identity-protecting verification brought up in the Sweatervest-Trump Wants To Know Your Porn Habits thread, I was looking into a DDNS to be able to access my self-hosted servers from anywhere without a static IP address.  I had resigned myself to the fact that this would require the creation of an account at some DDNS service to maintain my ownership of a subdomain to be redirected to whatever my IP address was at a given time.  But then I stumbled upon a DDNS service from freemyip.com which allows you to grab any unclaimed subdomain from them (so <your subdomain>.freemyip.com) without any sign-up or anything.  It provides you with a URL with a token built-in that acts as your identifier, and you simply need to visit that URL periodically to renew your lease on the subdomain and update your IP if it has changed.  For your standard Linux server, simply set up a cron job to curl the URL every 20 minutes and you're golden.

This is the kind of identity verification system I'd always wanted to see implemented, but the vast majority of the internet is not interested because it doesn't give them data to hoover up and it isn't a standard that any random Joe who doesn't care will happen to implement.  (Obviously, though, as a DDNS host, they could track who's accessing your subdomain, but such is the nature of the service)

My old Dell laptop finally bit the dust. I've had the DC adapter replaced twice the past 2 years & didn't want to pay for it again on a 7+ year old laptop. It's dead as the DC adapter hasn't been able to charge the battery for about a month. I got a cheap Lenovo replacement today.I was able to copy about 1/2 of the data to a thumb drive before the Dell crapped out.

Is there an easy way to remove the hard drive from the Dell, connect it to the new laptop to get the data off of it?

Easy is a relative term :)

I would find out what exact version it is (Inspiron whatever, etc.) and google how to take out the hard drive.  Guaranteed there's a youtube video and its probably just a few tiny screws to take the case off.

After that, buy something like this:  https://a.co/d/33DOVvX

Then you can mount the drive and get everything off of it.  Overall it is a mildly annoying, but relatively simple process.

Lol, my Mom didn't want to drive the 300 miles so she got a flight from Lynchburg to Chattanooga and is right now chilling in Charlotte asking me where do we wanna go for lunch. :rofl89:

And she was just telling me how it was nice to fly again since she hasn't for about 20 years.

Live Updates: Flights and Businesses Slowly Recover After Global Tech Outage

Businesses, websites and airlines struggled to slowly recover on Friday from a massive global technology outage that took down airlines, medical services, TV broadcasts, banks and scores of other businesses and services around the world. It was a stunning example of the fragile dependence the global economy has on certain software and the cascading effect it can have when things go wrong.

The outage was attributed to CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm whose software is used by scores of industries around the world to protect against hackers and outside breaches. A software update issued by CrowdStrike appeared to be at the root of the problem, resulting in crashes of machines running the Microsoft Windows operating system.

This news is bad timing for tech stocks, which have driven the broader stock market higher this year, most notably among companies tied to artificial intelligence. Microsoft, one of the beneficiaries of A.I. enthusiasm, is down more than 1 percent so far this morning.

CrowdStrike’s stock price plummeted in early morning trading, falling roughly 12.5 percent and putting it on course for its worst day since November 2022. Despite the widespread impact of the outage, it has yet to contaminate the broader stock market, with futures on the S&P 500, which allow investors to bet on the market before the official start of trading, up 0.1 percent.

Patients at the Perlmutter Cancer Center in Midtown Manhattan experienced long wait times as they arrived for treatment. Joan Jubett, a patient, said patients began to wonder if their treatments would be pushed to Monday. In a statement on Friday, a spokesperson for NYU Langone, which operates the center, said that all the system’s facilities were open and “patient care remains our top priority.”

Financial transactions around the world were affected by a tech outage on Friday, hampering operations as workers at several firms struggled to log into their corporate systems.

Employees at companies including JPMorgan Chase and Instinet, a brokerage firm owned by the Japanese bank Nomura, have had trouble gaining access to their work stations, according to people with knowledge of the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Gonna be a long day. Hey at least CFB 25 drops today.

Both Crowdstrike and Microsoft trying to bring down the global workforce on the day of CFB 25 release.  Curious, very curious
