NoCalMike
The cowboys were not stopping the run that well early on, why did we not keep pouring it on? The cowboys kept running the ball, even when we stopped it they didn't care, they didn't modify their plan. It seems Spurrier reacts to the smallest thing and decides to totally overhaul the strategy to something completely different for no reason. This was a 6-0 and 7-6 game for a looooooong while. Why the hell not run the ball more?
Skeletor The Invincible
Because Spurrier doesn't run the ball. We all know this, or should know it.
DjTj
While the score was 6-0 or 6-7, our run-pass ratio was 13-18. After the the Cowboys went up 14-6, our run-pass ratio was 3-19.
RAC
Rock is a beast. I really would like to see him get a shot at being our featured back but I know in Spurrier's system it won't happen. Every time he touches the ball, good things happen. The only knock is that he may not be a great blocker on pass plays and we don't know yet if he can get significant carries. Baculus
Until the defense can stop it, we should keep pounding the ball. But we do seem to abandon it at times when we've had success. Even in games when the commentator make comment on the lack of the Skins success it running the ball, it's usually not due to lack of actual success, but lack of running plays being called. It drives me nuts. And, when it's 3rd and 1, please simply get the one yard! It drives me nuts when SOS wants to pass in this situation when the one yard would suffice. NoCalMike
well the fact is, so far this season our O-line has SUCKED at pass blocking, and been pretty decent at run blocking so being a observant coach, you should play to your team's strengths while slowly working in other aspects into the offense. Spurrier has done the exact opposite and tried to force feed to the offense what it can't seem to do while ignoring what the team CAN do, which in turn has goten Ramsey nearly killed. The Sisko
Agreed NoCal. I was yelling myself purple for him to run the d@mn ball. Dobby has no subscription to the Post...he just doesn't get it.
js79
because we keep making dumb penalties like holding or false start or waitingfor the play clock to run out then its like a 2nd and 15 and we runa nd get 4 yards most of rock's yards were TRASH yards by the way, don't look so much into the stat we HAD to throw, cuz of the stupid ass penalties
SkinsThug
We have a college coach, the Cowboys have an NFL coach.
Larry
As I pointed out during the game thread. (Pulling stats out of memory, now). In the second Q, we had 7 carries for 70 yards. (The shortest run was 4 yards). 8 pass attempts for 7 incompletions and 1 sack. (We did have one completion nullified by penalty). Now, when your QB's having trouble uncrossing his eyes, the game's essentially tied, they're blitzing on every passing down, your opponent keeps coughing up the ball, and you're averaging 10 yards per handoff, how do you suppose an offensive-genius coach could settle things down? He was a tough inside runner and he leveled blitzers. I agree, Rock looks good carrying the ball. You'd think a K State alum would be a good blocker too. rdsknbill
Rock was awesome yesterday. One of the things that bothered me was Morton in there running and catching. Didn't we sign him to be our Special Teams guy? I was hoping to see more of McCullough. Although Rock was running very well. Also, I have to concur with NO Cal here. It seems that Spurrier refuses to go with what is working. He feels that he HAS to throw the ball to be successful. Hey Steve!!!, how many passing yards does Delhomme have in Carolina, and what is their record??? :thud: :thud:
Larry
Although, the guys in the booth were right: One of those sacks was simply a "whif" by Rock.
NavyDave
Imagine if we drafted Weaver instead of Betts and used watson and rock as the featured half backs

Chief skin
I was cursing and screaming for the old ball coach to run the ball right at them, jam the damn thing down their throats but, no Spurrier and hs ego knows best with his air spurrier system. I can't stand it when they cut to him on the sidelines and he has that AW SHUCKS GRIMMACE on his rat ass face after Ramsey gets pounded sacked or throws an incomplete pass
WallyG3
I would say that Rock should be our starting TB, but he can't block for crap. Maybe he can go to Emmitt Smith football camp in the offseason and learn about defenses.

RySkins
How many times are going to start a drive with two successful running plays to get a first down only to punt after 3 straight pass attempts? Spurrier seems to think that after two good running plays we have done enough to set up our passing game. The proof that he is wrong is in the game tapes. gbear
All of you why didn't we run fans, you might want to keep in mind how often we were penalized on first or second down. It's one thing to run on 1st and 10 or second and 10. It looks a little worse at 1st or 2nd and 20. I got hthe impression we penalized ourselves out of the run game as much as SOS just wanted to pass. WHoever said we were spoiled is correct. Both Terry Allen and Stephen Davis were among the best at picking up blitzers and making the block. This offense needs that. We don't need it at what Davis would have cost us, but let's not pretend Davis didn't have some good skills outside of his running. His time at FB was well spent. Larry
Now, granting that I'm one of the people who thought Marty didn't run the ball enough, but: I'd even conceede that if Rock had gotten 16 carries, that doesn't prove he would've gotten 88 yards. But it would've meant 8 less "Ramsey knockdowns", and likely 6-7 fewer incomplete passes. Might've cut down on the 'Boys blitzes, too. Maybe they would've even stopped double-covering Coles.
