Canadian Hog
on NFL Countdown, Mort claimed that the ball coach fired Helton last Saturday in a heated arguement and Helton fired back at him saying he quit. Apparently Snyder step in to resolve the issue and make cooler heads prevail. Anybody buying into this?
Angus
But Helton said, "I quit instead." Then your owner smoothed things over and told Spurrior to just be himself. All this on Countdown this morning.
PCS
With Mort who knows? I tend to have a skeptical eye when it comes to the media, espcially those that rely on "sources". Anything is possible. One this is certain. ASF buys into this one.
GSF
Mort just said on ESPN that Spurrier and Helton had some big conflict last week, and that Spurrier fired Helton. He said that Snyder intervened, and Helton is still Oline coach. Insert meddlsome Snyder rant here.
matty dread
I think we need another 'Spurrier fired Helton' thread.

chaz13
I heard on ESPN this morning that Spurrier fired him, then he tried to quit. Apparently Dan Snyder got involved and patched things up between the two. It was also said that if they lose this week Snyder may step in and fire some assistants. PCS
smart maybe at the end of the season. Not during. And doesn't this sound just a little contradictory to you fellows? Snyder supposedly steps in and mediates the situation and Helton keeps his job. yet at the same time Snyder is going fire assistants if the Skins lose today. :twitch:
Skeletor The Invincible
I think some of you guys need to take off your Burgandy colored glasses. I usually trust Mort, he's pretty fair, and I could see Spurrier getting after Helton because of the O-line play.

MAATopDogg
I hope that's is true. Helton has done a lousy job as the o-line coach. If Spurrier's choice was joe bugel then good for him. Snyder should stop meddling so much if he wanted to fire him don't stop him. Spurrier has the final say about his coaching staff anyway. Not all the blame goes to Helton though. Players (i.e-Sameuls & Jansen) are not doing their jobs. If not now but after the season Spurrier will fire Helton.
Leonard Washington
damn spurrier made a good move and snyder prevented it. i don't know what to think.
Zen-like Todd
That's pretty funny. If Snyder hadn't stepped in to keep Helton around, all of the rags would have said that Snyder fired Helton, and that he is out of control.
NavyDave
That would have made ASF and myself happy happy but Danny did the smart thing in preventing this now. However all bets are off after our season is over
just skins baby
Where is ASF during all this? What role did he play? Was he Spurriers little voice all week? Conspicuous by his absence.
70Chip
Yeah -- maybe ASF was just visiting Redskin Park and Mortensen heard him fire Helton --
Jimbo
I'd MUCH rather have the old Head Hog in charge anyway. Way to "smooth it over" Danny.
Redskinjoe
No. Not a bad move by Snyder. We have to have a replacement before we fire him. Someone who is highly qualified. Bugel maybe? That would be a dream. Hannifan? A wet dream. How about another old Hog... Jacoby?
PCS
Bugel said just about the time he was coming into Redskins park to watch film that he was not interested. He was quite happy in his retirement. And I believe Hannifan has stated that this is his last year coaching.

Montilar
Right CrankyTodd. If spurrier fires ANYONE on his staff midseason, all the mediots are going to lay the blame at Snyder. Whether Snyder was responsible or not. Snyder CANNOT afford it. Even if Spurrier were to come out and admit that he's the one who fired Helton, and that Snyder had nothing to do with it. Then too, there's the "who in the heck is going to replace him midseason"? You might as well expect the Ol to completely crumble the rest of the way. Unless there's a major turnaround, I have no doubt Snyder and Spurrier will fire Helton at the end of the season. THAT's what snyder did by stepping in. Problem is, how is the offense going to handle it? They all know that Helton is a lame duck now. Will they ignore him? Or try harder?
inmate running the asylum
I didn't hear what Morton said, but if Morton said that Spurrier "fired" Helton or Helton "quit," then it is probably true. Over the years I have found Morton to be very accurate on his inside information and he rarely sticks his neck out unless he is sure about something. After all he was the first one who predicted the Skins would sign Darrell Russell even before Russell had been released by the Raiders. But like I say I didn't hear or see what Morton said, so it's important the word or phrase he used. Did he say Spurrier "fired" Helton or Helton "quit," or did he just say they had a disagreement? Firing even bad assistant coaches in the middle of the season would be stupid. But I have to believe now that where there is so much smoke, there has to be a fire.
