WP: Washington Redskins: loud talk, little action, more losses than wins

As usual with this team, even when certain rumors and plotlines are discredited, there remains a story. I think this is one of those times and I think Reid does a good job pinpointing it

What’s important about the Washington Redskins’ boorish behavior isn’t whether Robert Griffin III has the respect of some of his teammates. What matters most is that the franchise continues to be crippled by the leadership vacuum in the locker room, which is among the biggest hurdles Coach Jay Gruden faces in his attempt to rebuild the team.

Last Friday, many players showed their immaturity by shouting as Griffin attempted to speak with reporters in the locker room, ignoring a high-ranking team official’s repeated requests to tone it down. And even after Griffin and reporters moved into a hallway, players continued shouting, prompting the official to leave Griffin and address the ringleaders.

Griffin appeared embarrassed by the unprofessionalism of his teammates, who clearly demonstrated a lack of respect for Washington’s supposed franchise quarterback. You think Peyton Manning or Tom Brady have to flee their own locker rooms to conduct interviews? Griffin isn’t universally beloved — few players are on any team — but his popularity had little do to with the clown antics.

For weeks, players have been openly hostile toward reporters, largely in response to the team’s decision to open the locker room for interviews after practice. A day prior to the Griffin interview fiasco, a team official had a contentious exchange with a player who refused to turn down loud music while reporters attempted to work.

I wanted to start a thread on this.

Anyone defending the dysfunction of this franchise isn't helping the franchise.  I know complaining doesn't help either, but the people pretending it's all media driven are really looking silly.

I agree, Reid does a good, and seemingly honest assessment.

What I'm getting from this is that the team really doesn't like the media. Good. They shouldn't. Not when there's this much bull**** spun out of Redskins park on a regular basis. When even the hometown paper is openly hostile toward the team... Would you be buddies with these people?

J Reid is one of the ringleaders here along with Wise and Jenkins. This is basically him whining about "professionalism" just because the players have shut him out. After his little spat with Clark from a couple weeks back? Too ****ing bad Jason.

**** these guys. **** the Washington Post and **** these small time reporters trying to make a name at the expense of this team.

Edit-

By the way. Not clicking the article and supporting this bull**** and neither should anyone else.

Again, **** these guys.

Jason Reid is kinda right.  A locker room that does that is immature, but I hardly blame the guys the way the media portrays them. These players dont pick the rosters and scheme, its not from lack of effort.

With that said, Bruce is a puppet, Gruden is new and trying, Mcvay is younger than some players, Haslett basically has been tuned out.  Where is the foundation and leadership supposed to come from?

I said that?

Right back at you with the snarky "quality contribution" remark. Get off your high horse.

Is Gary Fitzgerald a hater too? We get it you hate the media. Thanks for contributing, now leave the conversation to the big boys and girls. Thanks in advance

@GaryRFitzgerald: The @PostSports columnists bring it--@JReidPost on #Redskins locker room. http://t.co/tJHsGnBYBv. Locker room's been this way for years.

*edit*subject not worth it

I thought we weren't posting (Com)Post articles here because of their BS with the name change?I guess when the team loses, folks will lower themselves to siding with the (Com)Post and their ****-stirring and kick the team while they're down.

I guess you don't have a clue what you're talking about

In true ES style, doesn't keep you from expressing an opinion. Which is nice

Not sure why you feel the need to put down those who have opinions you disagree with. Pretty lame stuff, particularly from a moderator, but really nothing new from you so I'm not surprised.

At any rate, the Redskins having a leadership problem and the fact that media coverage of the team is pathetic are not mutually exclusive. My comments were related to the latter. That doesn't mean I was trying to discredit the former. But it's cool, I'll let the big boys do the talking from now on.

When it comes to posters like you, you are right, I don't have a clue, and I don't wanna know what makes you tick.

Just wallow in your own self-pity and hatred. I'm not going to stop you.

Yet you continue to post and opine, despite being ignorant about the WP policy and thread of this board. Are you done yet?

Can we talk about the article now, or did you need to get some more off your chest? Want to make this about the name change?

eh...not really surprised at the harsh articles coming from the washington post and not surprised at all by the dc media piling on the team. we're 3-6 and having a horrible season. if we were winning, i bet the articles would be nicer and the media would be nicer too. sucks, but this is just what happens in a losing season.

Has nothing to do with the name change. It has to do with the fact that this is clearly a hatchet piece by a worthless local paper still pissing on the team because Snyder took their free tickets away, and you're bringing here like it's gospel.

All because the team lost yesterday.

I'm well aware of the voluntary nature of the (Com)Post policy. I still say the article shouldn't have been posted because we shouldn't be helping them with their agenda against this team.

And the (Com)Post has an agenda.

Just another (albeit small) ingredient of the "Clown" pie that makes up the Washington Redskins.. Sure, they should hate the press! The press is the enemy! But that really shouldn't give the players the go ahead to act the fool..

One day they might take a step toward professionalism, but it'll probably not be in my lifetime..
