TK
http://www.redskins.com/story.asp?ContentID=12187 Quotes From Redskin Park, Oct. 31 10/31/2003 HEAD COACH STEVE SPURRIER On Fred Smoot: “Fred’s got a chance of playing. He was out practicing pretty well the last couple days. That’s about it. He’s probably still doubtful, but he’s got a chance to play. Trung Canidate, Dave Fiore and Rashad Bauman are also doubtful.” On whether Smoot had contact: “He bumped around on the dummy down there and there was no pain. He hit it with both shoulders. He pronounced himself well. We don’t have to announce anything unless the player is out, but there’s a good chance he’ll play.” On who would start if Fred Smoot is unable to play due to injury: “David Terrell could play. He’s played out there a bit. Our rookie, Calvin Carlyle, would suit up if Fred can’t play. He wouldn’t start, but he’d suit up. Ade Jimoh was out there. He’s about ready to play a little bit. Jimoh would still be ahead of Carlyle.” On how many carries Chad Morton might get in the game: “It depends. Chad and Rock have to play some. Sultan has to jump in there and play some, too. We’ll try to utilize what we have. We’ll try to get them in there and let them do what they do best.” On whether the lack of experience at running back limits his game plan: “There’s a limit on what you can do depending on who’s in there, of course. Obviously Chad is not big enough to block those linebackers. That;s something you have to always think about. When another team sees him in there, they may try to isolate a bigger linebacker on him.” On who the backup QB will be for Sunday’s game against Dallas: “We’re going to let Tim Hasselbeck be the second guy. He’s learned the offense. If he has to play, we’ll have his package of plays that he knows. He’s really come around nicely. Gibran Hamdan has done all right, but Tim—even though he’s only played some preseason games in the NFL—has a little bit more experience and seems to have a little bit more of an overall veteran feel to him. But Gibran’s doing fine also.” On what he likes about Tim Hasselbeck: “Tim knows enough to go play. He can call our snap count. He’s very comfortable with all the runs. And we’ll have a pass list for him if he has to go play.” On whether he thinks the Cowboys will be purposely pressuring Patrick Ramsey because of the inexperience at backup: “No, not any more than any other team we’ve played this year. I think any team when they get a chance to legally hit the quarterback, they take it. In the NFL you can’t [go after a quarterback.] You get fined for late hits on quarterbacks, hard hits and helmet-to-helmet hits on quarterbacks. I really believe most teams play within the rules.” TIM HASSELBECK (QB, #8) On whether he’s surprised to be named the No. 2 quarterback: “I really didn’t think about it too much. I just thought about coming in and learning as much as I could as fast as I could. Whatever decision was going to be made wasn’t going to affect me. I was either going to be the second guy or the third guy.” On how much of the playbook he’s comfortable with: “What we’re doing this week isn’t everything we’ve done on offense. It’s a game plan for the Cowboys and I feel like I have good grasp of things right now. I have another day and a half to really study it hard. I’m going to feel comfortable with enough things to go in there and run those things and execute things the way coach wants them to be executed.” On whether he focused on learning the game plan instead of the playbook: “Yes, because that’s the way it’s going to go. Obviously as the season goes along I’ll retain a lot of this information that I’ve learned so far and it carries over to the next week and the following week, and then learn the little wrinkles as we play more teams. A lot of teams play similar defenses, some teams play more man-to-man coverage than other teams, and a lot of times the plays you have for that week differ.” On learning Spurrier’s offense: “The biggest thing is learning the terminology. When you call a slant one thing on one team, you’d call it something different on the next team. You have to try and train your brain to realize when you call a play, you actually see a picture in your head of what it’s going to look like." On how he went about learning Spurrier's offense: "You have to learn things in pieces. The first thing you have to do is learn the formations. You have to learn the run plays and the footwork. One way I did that was going through all the games of this season, just watching Patrick run it and seeing his footwork and how the routes were run.” FRED SMOOT (CB, #21) On whether he thinks he’ll play on Sunday: “I’ll play—I’m basing it on how I feel. I practiced and ran out there again. I’m just doing small things see where I’m at personally. Personally, I think I can play.” On the contact in practice: ”I didn’t have any hits. No contact. This is the NFL. We don’t hit much after training camp anyway.” On what about the injury hinders him: “I’ll probably wear a soft pad to keep my shoulder pads off my chest. But that’s about it.” On being there for the Cowboys game and their fast group of wide receivers: “My team needs me. I have to be there for my guys.”

I've noticed that to about SOS - he should keep who the best blockers are and stuff like that to himself.
jimster
was Molden that bad? I know Detroit released him too, but I would think he'd be better then some undrafted guy off the street. We're missing Darell Green already
SkinInsite
Detroit is a bad team with a horrific pass defense, so i don't think Molden will be any better than Terrell.
bulldog
it seems clear with the problems in the secondary and the skill of the Cowboys receivers that the Skins are going to have to take chances on the rush and hit Carter often. it also means that on offense the Skins are going to have to put up the kind of yardage and pressure that they did in the Falcons game. ljer
“We’re going to let Tim Hasselbeck be the second guy. He’s learned the offense. How bad must Hamdan be ??? Hasselbacks' been here an hour and a half and he knows the offense better??? Another gem of a draft pick.
Stone Cold
actually, and i'll probably get hammered for this, i think terrell is a better cb than any other option we have right now...other than smoot and champ obviously. he plays a more physical corner than bauman can and his veteran savvy should bode well against most 3rd wr. bauman is a decent corner, but his size, or lack thereof, really limits what he can do physically. he has great technique, but has to rely on that technique heavily to ensure he's in the right place. even so, because of his lack of size, gets outplayed by bigger wrs. this game, i'll take my chances with terrell playing the nickle. Tommy-the-Greek
Spurrier doesn't say who the new holder will be. This has me a little worried. Has Hasselbeck ever held for a extra point or field goal in the NFL? Is there anyone else on our roster who has?
2cents
I thought Barker was the holder???? :2cents:
