REDSKINS SIGN WR RASHAD ROSS TO PRACTICE SQUAD

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed wide receiver Rashad Ross to their practice squad and released wide receiver Marvin McNutt from their practice squad.

In addition, the team announced that it has commenced the 21-day practice periods for defensive end Stephen Bowen and wide receiver Leonard Hankerson, both of whom are currently on the team’s Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list.

Ross (6-0, 181) originally signed with the Redskins as a free agent on May 23, 2014, before being waived on Aug. 26. He signed to the Chicago Bears’ practice squad on Sept. 1 and was signed to the team’s active roster on Sept. 16, ultimately appearing in his first two NFL games in Weeks 3-4. He was waived by Chicago on Sept. 30, added to the team’s practice squad on Oct. 2, and later released from the practice squad on Oct. 7.

I thought Ross looked decent in the limited snaps he got during the pre season. Geez the O line market must be in shambles. There has to be at least one free agent RT or RG that would be an upgrade for the Redskins?

Starting caliber RTs and RGs do not in fact grow on trees.

I was thinking the same thing. Why in the holy ham sandwich would we need another WR? I'm not understanding the logic.

There are about 2000 players on NFL rosters, IR and practice squads. The odds that there is anybody else out there available who can turn in to a valuable NFL player are extremely slim. So, the 'logic' is that if you see a guy with a chance to develop that way, you take him. You don't pass on him to reach for players at the position you're thin at.

We have 2 OL on the Practice Squad, btw.

I don't know Rufus.  The NFL holds 2,000 people, but there are how many billions on the planet?  How many who've played college football and never gotten their due or chance.  I suspect if you really had the resources and tremendous teachers you could find ten first year HOF caliber prospects at every NFL position.

The problem is training some of them up, getting them in football shape, and of course finding them, but I really don't think that the NFL has cornered the market on all  existing talent.  In fact, I know there are bigger, stronger, faster, more agile players out there than Tyler Polumbus that haven't played since high school.

People are really getting upset about us signing a player to the practice squad?  Do people know what the practice squad is?  Do people know that Ross showed potential as a return man and we are gonna set a record this year for worst starting field position?

There is absolutely no downside to us bringing him in.  This place is starting to stink almost as bad as our team does on Sundays. :)

Agreed. This is a really dumb discussion. If you can find a guy who has a chance to one day contribute in the NFL you pick him up. The idea that you can find those guys at whatever position you want is silly. And of course, people want us to find THREE of those guys (at least) for the OL, since we already have 2 and people are upset that we didn't add another one.

The other thing the PS does, of course, is provide players who can be promoted to active in case of an injury. And on the PS right now, we have players at these positions:

1 RB

1 WR

1 TE

2 OL

1 DL

2 LB

2 DB

That's a pretty good allocation and the smart way to do things.

We do so much stupid stuff, it's amazing that people need to invent things to criticize.

It seems being a fan of a losing football team kills brain cells.

yeah way to be nice...

my point was that this year is the deepest we have been at WR annd I don't like getting another WR even if its just to help out the ST unit. thats my opinion. you are welcome to your own opinion. i will not argue about this topic after this post.
