StevieInferior
Would you rather keep Champ outright OR franchise him and get atleast one first rounder allowing us to take two Dlinemen in the first...lock up Smoot long term and probably make it necessary that we get a FA CB like McCallister or Taylor? Riggo-toni
I don't want to spend much more at all than what the FO already offered him. If we could get a solid CB like McAlister at a reasonable price and a mid to high 1st rounder for Champ, I'd reluctantly let him go.
SlobberKnockinFootball
It's proven time and time again that the D-Line is what makes or breaks a defense. Get some studs on the line and average to above average CB. After all of his comments the past couple of weeks. I'm pretty much ready to let him walk. Franchise him and get a couple 1st rounders for him to help with our D-Line.
Lavarisgod
Either way he will be here next year, and if we can bolster our d-line maybe Russell panning out and getting a fast pass rushing DE, the offense clicks, Lavar decapitates Mcnabb, I see NFC Championship game..... Die Hard
CB Chris McAllister signed a huge contract last offseason I believe.
StevieInferior
Nope McAllister signed his Franchise tender and only has one year in Baltimore. Word is that they won't tag him this year
Long n Left
My scenario has the Falcons (home, where Champ wants to be) trading the Skins Patrick Kearney and their #1 for Champ. Skins resign D Russell after he shows well in the second half of the season. The Skins then draft either one DL and one OL, and sign a FA CB such as McAlister, or they draft a CB and either a DL or OL, and sign the other as a FA. I doubt the Falcons would give up that much for Champ, but stranger things have happened. If it did, the Skins would have their big DT (Russell), a proven pass rushing DE (Kearney), and a very high 1st round pick next year to go with their own #1. Now, if they can squeeze all that under the salary cap, they'd have something brewing, I believe.
don_carlo
Getting McCallister plus a first round pick would be huge. The only thing is that I don't see us drafting a DL, but rather getting one thru FA (maybe RFA). This team (Snyder and Spurrier as well) wants to win FAST, and D linemen often take a couple of years before they reach a competitive level (see Courtney Brown). I think we may rather go for a veteran DL (Abraham, Kearse would be great) and a rookie CB.

See Jevon Kearse, Julius Peppers, Warren Sapp, Richard Seymour,....etc. I don't think you can say that all d-lineman do not contribute immediatly, alot of them do. Cskin
Didn't McCallister recently get busted for something.... DUI.... or something like that? I'll say this, the guy makes a big play now and again that changes games.... unlike our man Champ. I'm in favor of two things.... signing him to the deal on the table right now.... before the end of the season so that we might move some of the future salary money into this year.... OR...... franchising him and hoping someone gives up 2 #1s for him. To me, he's an above average CB who makes ZERO game changing plays. Some will argue that teams don't throw at him..... but I've seen both McCallister and C. Woodson return picks for touchdowns this year. Where is Champ? Speaking of drafting DTs this year.... anyone hear of the rookies drafted this year? Dewayne Robertson - Jets - Disappointment to this point Jimmy Kennedy - Rams - Invisible Kevin Williams - Vikes - Playing DE & playing pretty respectable Ty Warren - Pats - Invisible William Joseph - Giants - Invisible Are you getting the idea? Takes a couple years for DT to become impact players on the DL. Do we have that kind of time w/ the foul mixture of Spurrier/Snyder? I'm also thinking identifying young DL with 3 or 4 years that are about to explode as potential DL upgrades. Let's compile a list of who they might be. Leonard Washington
McAllister has been a nutcase this year, drinking and driviing, kicking teamates asses, missing meetings, tauting penalites...the guy is really smelling his must during a contract year. but if champ wants to walk, franchise him and take picks. we probably could find a Dlineman or two who will be garbage for us b/c we start them as rookies but become stars somewhere else. i say we draft pass rushing LBs and make them lineman. Yeah, of course, you have a couple of them that perform well in their first year (in last year's draft I guess Vikes K. Williams would make that list), but that's not a sure shot. Getting Coles instead of a rookie was a good move to me, and I think it makes even more sense for a D lineman esp considering our recent history with evaluating Dlinemen (Big Daddy, Stubby ... :puke:)
Phat Hog
If we got 2 first rounders for him.... I'd take that deal.

Maybe if we had a defensive line that could put pressure on the QB, then Champ could make plays because the QB is throwing the ball too soon. I like Champ, I don't think that Champ is worth 18 million, but I like Champ and do feel he is the best Cover Corner in the league.
Canadian Hog
The thing with Bailey though is that you already know he is a proven player who is capable of great play. I'd be happy to get the picks for him, but you gotta pray that the FO drafts well and that these guys we pick pan out for us. Clearly letting him go is more of a risk. I'm totally in favor of keeping Champ if Snyder stays with the offer that's been put in place, and doesn't give in and increase it.
