RDSKNfaithfull
if we lose this week the press is going to eat us alive. We may be looked at as the new bungles:doh: I try to ignore the fact that all of us as redskins go through the viciouse cycle of doom and gloom Monday and Tuesday only to get our hopes up sometime around friday. We dont match up very well this week but I pray we beat the pokes:paranoid:
bubba9497
the National press can kiss my :moon: ! Even if the Skins win, there will be some pot shots fired. Snyder and the Skins are the national presses' whipping boys, for what ever reason. There are worse teams, and owners that never get the bashing Snyder gets, and I have never understood why. Om
If the Skins lose this week, it's not the national press I'm worried about. It's how many of the posters here are going to find a tall buildings to jump off because has it suddenly sunk in to them that the 2003 Skins probably aren't a legitimate playoff contender at this point. The very real possibility of losing to a well-coached Bill Parcells team on the road, especially when we'll be going without our top two tailbacks and second corner, and oh by the way still featuring a wet-behind-the-ears QB and rookie defensive coordinator, shouldn't really come as all that great a shock given the circumstances ... but I'm sure that if we DO lose, the hair pulling and teeth gnashing and hara-kiri-committing around here will be something to behold. Om
Well, I have to, bubba. Guarantee you that if it goes bad Sunday and we get a rash (using that term advisedly) of new posters here for the sole purpose of finding new and creative ways to say "everything in burgundy and gold sucks," there will be a mess of limp, quivering, smoking piles of banned flamer remnants littering the side of this particular cyber highway. :asta:

freakofthesouth
Here a REALLY good question: How can your friggin' name be RDSKNfaithful when you create such pessimistic posts? Man, change your name. On second thought, keep your name- just change your attitude. The skins can win bro! It's possible. Have faith, RDSkNfaithful. I'm with you until you mention rookie DC. I've seen many rookie DC's debut with much better results then Edwards has. To get schooled like we have the past two games you would think he was a DC for the local pee-wee league last year. There is some legitimacy to being disappointed in our Skins this year. Clearly, things could be better right now. Even if this game pans out a legit loss to a better club, that doesn't excuse the loss to the Giants (horrible OT defensive stand), Tampa (total collapse in 2nd half) and Buffalo (have the Skins shown up yet?) It our right to be disappointed and frustrated after 10 years of the same junk, with each season digressing into a comedy-of -errors soap-opera. :hammer: :puke:
fansince62
I want to see the O-line play like a unit: win or lose. a run would be nice. but...to be honest....my focus now is on building the potential into reality. get ot wortking this year on offense, sign russell again if he is the real deal, draft a saefty and a de, sign champ and start negotiations with lavar. a good showing that sets the stage for next season may be enough at this point - we are at that point where we need to "get it right"...develop a team. Om
Mike, I take it from your post you're convinced that the last 5 quarters the Skins D has played (since Smoot went down, coincidentally) are a more telling measure of Edwards' performance so far than the first 5 3/4 games? If so, I think that may be a bit reactionary. I generally don't pass judgement on a guy in his position for a good year, maybe two, depending on the personnel he has to work with. If I WAS going to in Edward's case, though, I think I'd at least give him some credit for keeping a group with the most anemic pass rush in the league competitive. And I might consdier the impact losing a starting corner had on a group that was surviving in large part because a stellar pair of corners went a long way toward masking the deficiencies up front. I'm just not prepared to say either way whether Edwards will turn out to be the next Richie Petitbone or the next Ron Lynn. It's just too early -- and there too many variables in play -- to make that kind of call at this point.
TennesseeCarl
As much as I hate to say it - I really like Steve Spurrier - but a loss to Dallas at this point, particularly one where we come out and just mail it in, will probably mark the end of SOS in Washington. If that happens, I can't see any good reason not to let the Ol' Ball Coach out of his contract on Monday. If the Fun 'N Gun can't work for us (although a variant of it seems to work for the Rams), there's little reason to keep Spurrier, is there? Lavarisgod
You cant blame the DC for it all, remember, there's been alot of CRUCIAL penalties against the defense that has allowed teams to score go ahead points. If begins and ends with those 11 guys on the field, with the talent they have it should'nt matter who the DC is. If they played smart ball we'd be 5-2 right now. sonsofwashington
To be honest I will only be suicidal if we lose to the Eagles, Giants, and Cowboys at the end of the season. That means 0-6 to the NFC East. That means if I die I'm taking the ball coach with me. mumuhahahahahamuuahahahaha

MikeB
Well Om, I can see some of your points. But I really think the bottom line is that a good coach gets good play from any team. Look at the Eagles. Their whole D-line is out for the year, yet they swarm, pressure and cause turnovers. Now I don't want to compare us to them, but surely his squad is overacheiving at this point. Yet here are the Skins, underacheiving again (at least in my eyes.) Heck, the Eagles without both starting corners and their PB safety still play twice the game we do on our best day. That's just plain wrong. When do we overacheive? When do we get good play from mediore talent? Heck, when do we get good play from good talent. This team never does. And Edwards needs to shoulder a large part of that.
Om
The Eagles D is a thoroughly entrenched system, run by perhaps the best DC in the league, Mike. A guy who's been there for years. I'd like to think that example actually serves to illustrate MY point. Heck, maybe in the first few weeks of this year, we WERE overachieving, given that our best pass rusher is 59 years old. Whether we like it or not, and whether being patient with Edwards - just like with Spurrier, Ramsey, etc. - is a whole lot of fun, I'm just saying that 7 games in to his career as a DC, Edwards grade can ONLY be realistically an "incomplete." I was pointing out the same thing about the press. Dont confuse me with some of the closet cowpoke fans. Anybody can win any given sunday and I hope we do win but the fact is Im smart enough to see we dont match up well this week. Granted nobody here knows what team will show up thats why we will all be glued to the T.V. watching tommorow at 4 (parity is a beautifull thing). Im about to start talking in circles (if i already haven't, sorry) because of the corona and the Canes sorrow I feel right now so lets leave it at Hail to the REDSKINS
PCS
Well, like those pretty smart guys on that thread about S.S. being at a crossroads said, (Parcells, Dennis Greene, Ron Wolfe), S.S. will get his offense working pretty well. Given a bit more time. Jaws has gone as far as to say that S.S.'s offense does work, just needs his team to execute better. Block and stuff. s for the Rams, well, that flashy Rams offense went to 2 Superbowls and put up some impressive numbers in doing so. And right now, it's looking like it's going to be impressive again. As for the DC, well, think that's been covered. he's a new guy. Needs some time to get the feel of it. And a push from the inside would help a little. Those other 3 guys look after the outside. combination of both players and coaches according to the players themselves. Pretty sure George feels the same way.
