Gardner for Owens?

Bang

Recommended Posts

So, Dick Stockton all day Sunday kept alluding to a trade that nearly happened that would have given us Terrell Owens for Rod Gardner.

Now, I pay attention, and I had never seen a single word about that. I realize last week i was busy, but so busy to have missed THAT little nugget?

What gives?

I dont know man...Redskins officials have dismissed that rumor as exactly what it is....a 'rumor'. I would LOVE to have Owens..but lets be honest...we need better defensive pressure...not some fast guy who wont get enough passes because our blocking blows...and you know that will just lead to him b*tching like a little girl on the sideline. LaVar would probally slap him like the little cry baby he is....maybe we should go for him. I'd love to see that.

Yah,, that dope Stockton was talking about it like it was common knowledge, like it was as certain a fact as the sun rising.

Like I said, I consider myself fairly knowledgeable, and wow,, I was totally surprised by that one.

Then again, I recall Stockton and Johnston also were convinced that the Falcons had figured out the redskins audibles and hand signals.

Bang,

Hahahah...I remember that..."If he raises his hand...."

Hahaha hilarious, good call. Now if I could only find out where Chris Collinsworth lives and resides....I could walk right up to him and punch him in his neck...the man talks so bad on the skins every broadcast...Remember when he was talking sh1t on Laveranues Coles???? COME ON!!! L. C. would run CIRCLES around his White-Ass-Bengal-Uniform-Wearing-Self.

Rick "Doc" Walker is apparently buddy buddy with Terry Donahue, who runs the 9ers. Donahue said it was bs, and apparently Doc doesnt think Donahue would b.s. him. Apparently he talked to snyder for about five seconds several months ago (during the summer), and there weren't even any trade proposals.

I'll take TO over Gardner anytime. Atleast TO has shown that he wants to win....and cares about it. Maybe he goes about it the wrong way sometimes...But he cares. Now, can we sit here and say we can say the same for Gardner?

I would of rejected the trade btw. I would never give up any draft picks at this juncture for something that we don't desperately need. If it was a stud DT or DE? Different story.

here is the dillema. Yes Owens would require a big pay day, but I have a feeling Gardner is gonna leave too. When Coles got all that money all you heard from Gardner was stuff like, "well it'd good to see someone get paid like that, so when it is my time I will get the same respect" which obviously means he thinks he is getting some huge chunk of change too. So if Gardner feels "disrespected" with #2 reciever money, he is going to leave.

Good thing its BS cause it would have been stupid when we have plenty of other needs.

I remember gardner saying that which is why I think the D Mac fans are hoping he continues to improve and we sign him to an extension before he blows up and of course that jacobs or russell have a break out season next year.

Here was my plan on the whole TO-RG trade thing.

We make the trade. TO comes here and either sparks a playoff push or totally screws the pooch. Either way, we DON'T resign him. We use the Gardner / Owens money to sign John Abraham or another good DE. Move up Jacobs and McCants next year.

That way we get:

some new blood for the playoff push this year.

Gardner's bad hands and contract off our books.

Money to sign a DE.

Wouldn't that work, since TO is in his last year and Gardner is second to last? Shouldn't be too much signing bonus stuff left over.

I say we should've gone for it.

Gotta disagree.

I don't think renting Owens for a year would have been a good idea, playoff push or not. If the deal was as reported it would have cost us Gardner AND a 1st rounder. Can you imagine the uproar around here when draft time came around next year and Owens had signed elsewhere (since we aren't going to pay him what he's looking to get )and we have no 1st round pick.

No thanks.
