A Blind QB Stats Taste Test, which QB Would you prefer as a head coach?

On a whim, I decided to look at some of the 'younger' Quarterbacks in the league to see where we stood up against some teams who are also looking for Head Coaches for next season, but also, against people who have entered the league in the last two or three years.   Included in this nameless sample are two QBs who have been in the league 5-6 Years, but are mainly in there as a means to compare them to a Similarly aged QB.

So if you were an NFL Head Coach, which of the following Quarterbacks would you most prefer?  I've sorted them by Touchdown to Interception ration (where a number above 1 Means more TDs than INTs)  The stats actually surprised me a bit, so that's why I wanted to share this.

1) 59.8 Pct 5,046 Yds Yds/G 157.7 TD 31 INT 11 TD:INT 2.82  Playoffs 2013, 2014
2) 63.6 Pct 6,475 Yds Yds/G 202.3 TD 52 INT 19 TD:INT 2.74  Playoffs 2013, 2012
3) 62.7 Pct 6,403 Yds Yds/G 228.7 TD 36 INT 17 TD:INT 2.11  Playoffs 2012
4) 63.7 Pct 23,472 Yds Yds/G 249.7 TD 153 INT 77 TD:INT 1.99  Playoffs 2012
5) 57 Pct 8,196 Yds Yds/G 256.1 TD 46 INT 27 TD:INT 1.7  Playoffs 2013, 2012
6) 60.9 Pct 11,360 Yds Yds/G 236.7 TD 80 INT 49 TD:INT 1.63  Playoffs 2013, 2012
7) 59.8 Pct 11,299 Yds Yds/G 235.4 TD 64 INT 42 TD:INT 1.52  Playoffs 2013
8) 59.5 Pct 17,457 Yds Yds/G 286.2 TD 109 INT 73 TD:INT 1.49  No Playoff Appearance in 2012/2013
9) 59.4 Pct 7,207 Yds Yds/G 252.2 TD 36 INT 30 TD:INT 1.2  No Playoff Appearance in 2012/2013

Probably 2) 63.6 Pct 6,475 Yds Yds/G 202.3 TD 52 INT 19 TD:INT 2.74  Playoffs 2013, 2012

You would have chosen:

2)  Russel Wilson QB Sea

For those asking for other stats, I was only looking at Passing numbers, which are the traditional concern of quarterbacks.  However a couple of those QBs do have some rushing stats, I didn't have time to crunch or fit them into the spreadsheet.

That having been said.  the differences in some areas were stark and in others not so much.  Completion percentage among those surveyed ranged from 57 to 63.7 PCT That's only about 6 points.

The TD:INT ratio ranged from a low of 1.2 to 2.82 for the tops.  Also its interesting that everyone with above 1.52 TD:INT ratio has made the playoffs at least once in the last two years.  I'd have thought it would have been higher.  Granted, there's more to a team getting to the play offs then just QB play.

Another shocker was that the guy with fewest Yards Passing, had the highest TD:INT ratio.  Now some of that may be attributable to Field Position (not a stat easily determinable from the NFL website.  But it may also mean that if you have a higher Propensity to throw TDs vs INTs, that you don't have to have 'Make Up Yards in another possession to score a TD. (After reading this, it could be that the yards made up with Rushing would adjust this a bit)

I don't have the rushing stats. I was really shocked how High our QB RG3 rated, and how few passing yards a couple of guys actually had given how successful their teams have been.

Here's the full list, for everyone to Chew On.

Notably absent from this list is Phily's QB Nick Foles.  I missed him in my initial browsal, but all of the QBs on this list were taken, I believe in the top 2 Rounds of the draft, and became the starter fairly quickly.   One stat I didn't include was games 'played' which might be helpful in evaluating these metrics a bit more in some cases.  Also absent is the QB for Tennessee, given he was hurt all year, and none of this years rookies are included in the list.
