The Slammer
Gee, it only took them seven weeks and probably FIVE YEARS OFF RAMSEY'S LIFE to learn that! Yay!

Ax
Don Warren and Rick "Doc" Walker blocked DE's quite well when asked. So it can be done. It's not always the system that's flawed, the players MUST do better.
Ryman of the North
you dont put players in spots that maximise their weaknesses! Warren didnt run streaks and fades did he? No you use a TE to block ends if he is a great blocker and we simply dont have that and Spurrier needs to get his hillbilly head wrapped around that! just thionk it only took ol hillbilly 7 weeks to figure out that that college crap blocking dont fly in the bigs! P.s. i was a spurrier supporter until the last 2 weeks and if edwards cant figure out a way to stop the damn boot leg flats pass fire his idiot a55 too! NavyDave
Big dfference between a pass catching TE and a blocking TE In other words a Rasby type could hold his on since he would know he isnt getting a pass thrown his way
bishtw
Finally, B.C. loked like he had lead boots on out there. But who's gonna block now both backs? Geez, I can't get it out of my head, in the preseason we were suppose to have the most improved line out there. What a laugh!
frankbones
Speaking of Rasby, where is he right now? We could use him.
bulldog
Rasby was 6'4, 256 and was a strong player. Chamberlain is 264 but 15 pounds overweight and NOT a blocking TE. This guy has made his bones in the NFL as a receiver. Flemister is just useless on either count. That's why he lasted just a week in Cleveland. sonsofwashington
Why does that sound like a desperation plea to the fans so we dont lynch him. Sometimes I feel like Spurier plays his chips on tables were he doesn't know the stakes. Using the tight end to block almost killed Ramsey. Why does he do that. I guess he is a still a second year rookie in the NFL. Sharpen Up Steve or your valiant efforts in the NFL will land you and us in the hall of shame for waste of tremendous talent. spm
Coles, Gardner and McCants have proven they get open. Why don't we just max protect and bombs away? At least Ramsey would last they year!
Jimmythehair
skinsplayboy, I bet if we cut Dockery it would come back to haunt us. Washington teams have a knack for getting rid of players who turn out to be great with a little coaching.
PCS
What was said, or at least in this little blurb from a thread by Bubba just a few rows down. "And Spurrier will discard a blocking scheme he has employed since becoming Redskins coach in 2002. He no longer will give the tight ends responsibility for blocking defensive ends. "We're going to quit that protection," Spurrier said. " Add to that remark what the coaching staqff said about players missing assignments on those plays, and one could almost assume he's saying he's not going to put the players in a position to screw that up again. Om
Can any of you Tivo guys find even ONE play this season where a TE was asked to block a DE on a play that wasn't a 1 or 3 step drop, or a semi-roll away from the DE? If the "scheme" called for a TE to account for a DE all by himself on a 5 or 7 step drop, I'll heat my hat. Not the new Extemeskins one, because it's sweet, but one of my old beer-encrusted "Will Golf For Food" ones.
Tarhog
Pipe down man! Your REALITY is screwing up my PERCEPTION. I mean, you wouldn't see it plastered all over the internet if it weren't true, would you? Way I hear it, Spurrier demanded the TE block the DE on every play or he was outta here. Once Spurrier's out of here, we can bring back Matt Stephens, Shar Pourdanesh, and Matt Turk and get back to playing error free, disciplined football! Maybe we can convince Rich Kotite to come in and save our gloried franchise!
Om
Matt Turk and Shar Pourdanesh are half-brothers by the same step-father. And from the same suburb of Istanbul (hence, "Turk"). I saw that reported once.
SonnyJ
I still don't see why a guy weighing 250 can't, at least, slow down a DE. Same with a RB. As Om said, it shouldn't be done on deeper drops, as a rule. On short sets, though, it should be sufficient. But, someone please explain to me why the TE can't be expected to do this. Why is this a scheme problem and not a player problem?
PCS
Because then nobody could blame Spurrier/Helton. And what fun is that?

Why is this a scheme problem and not a player problem? It's not, Sonny. TE's have "chipped" on DE's since they invented pigs and decided to stamp "Official Size & Weight" on their pebbly, inflated bladders. This is the same kind of runaway internet message board train that gave us "Snyder's spending spree ruined the 2000 season" and "the Skins threw Stephen Davis over the side." Oh, and "LaVar cried." Having access to 24/7 microanalysis of all things Redskin on these boards by passionate fans is a wonderful thing. Taking everything one reads on them at face value is probably not. Kills the work day, though.
kve
One of the criticisms at UF was that Spurrier was never utilizing the TE enough in the pass plays. Now I know what they were doing!! They were pass blocking. Spurrier likes to throw to WR and backs and have the TE block. In weeks 1-4 we got hit by a lot of blitzes, but you didn't hear about DE on TE until Royal got beat and hurt. Then it was 'katy bar the door'. Maybe Royal was good at blocking and we need to add a pass blocking TE to our middle round draft needs (or FA pickup). I went back and looked at the drafts, and it looks like only Eric Kinney for the Titans was drafted as a TE out of UF. kve
