Atlanta Skins Fan
Gotta go now, but I've got a parting thought: Sure Helton stinks. Spurrier stinks. Dockery stinks. Yada yada. The solution is not simply to push Spurrier out and hire another coach. This team needs to be *immunized* from Snyder's continued meddling. Ideally we'd have a new owner, but that's not going to happen. But here's what Dan Synder, owner of the Washington Redskins, should do: Fire Dan Snyder, GM of the Washington Redskins. After all, it *was* that Snyder who brought in Spurrier, allowed Daryl Gardener to leave, and failed to replace Gardener adequately. From the looks of it, Dan Snyder the owner needs to fire Dan Snyder the GM if he's going to get a better return on his investment. I won't even go into Dan Snyder the GM's brilliant work signing Deion Sanders and allowing Brad Johnson to go to the Bucs to be a Super Bowl QB. So fire Dan Snyder, GM. Hire a guy like Ron Wolf as GM. And let that new GM hire a new coach. You know: like how *real* teams operate.
sashae
If Ron Wolf were only available, that dream might come true. We're more likely to continue the same GM-less path for the forseeable future. Gardener's leaving was certainly defensible, considering the sums of money he wanted. Additionaly, it wasn't like there was a hell of a lot else out on the market.. -s
Skins26
ASF, I'm usually all for being positive and everything. But this time, after this game, I'm with you man. This was just disgusting and we are in serious trouble. The worst part about it is that nobody knows what to do to change it.
Jimmythehair
Somehow I doubt Dan will ever fire himself as GM. If he does it won't be for at least a few years.
NavyDave
I was about to launch into you ASF However I'll reserve that. Dockery is a rookie who should have been brought along slowly but he should come out beter in the long run if we decide to use smashmouth to as I said build up that confidence. Who the he11 wanted gardener back? I didnt and he is out for the season everyone saw bad karma from that guy except you. Get over it he was in his contract year and pulled off a stubby at san fran exhibition

Guest SkinsHokie Fan
Almost brought back Bobby B but that fell through at the airport. Spurrier is Snyder's guy so we will see what happens
bulldog
Kafka said that people only learn through pain Well, in the case of Snyder I think what will happen is that the pain level (from not winning and being criticized) will become high enough that he finally brings in a proven commodity as GM and allows that person to hire a HC. Then Dan can sit back just like most NFL owners whose teams win and be seen in their stadium box with VIPs walking around on Sunday afternoons
TLusby
Everyone on this site was excited about DS and his quick and deliberate plan of attack at the start of the season. He had his jet flying and getting all the pieces that made sense at the time. He improved our receivers, OL, running back (for SOS's system), etc. Give the guy a break! He will bring the Lombardi trophey back; unfortunetly, it will not be this year or next. Be patient guys.
bulldog
here's what's not clear. the Skins roster keeps changing 25-40% each offseason, regardless of who the Head Coach is. I don't see how the team develops the necessary chemistry to go on a run if the same players are not retained for at least an intermediate period. the problem here is that Spurrier said if the team was not turned around by the end of Year 3 he would perhaps walk away, MEANWHILE, Year 1 was almost a complete waste of time as the skill players who started the majority of the games are almost all gone. so, are we NOW in Year 1 or does 2002 count? I am confused
Chrisbob74
This tem has been built the wrong way. We need to build two great lines, but we build a team/sign players that sells shirts etc. OK, we got a couple of O-line men in here this past off season, but if they aren't used to block properly (we seem to like to use our TE's to block DE's!!) how can we be expected to win!! Cskin
I agree with firing Snyder the GM, but I don't want another owner of the Redskins than Dan Snyder. He wants to win, much more than you can say for many NFL owners in the league. As for the GM quandry, I would love to see Ron Wolf as GM and 10% owner of the team. The shares Snyder recently sold should have been given to Wolf for his role in evaluating talent and bring disciplined/hungry players to the Redskins. Dockery is a rookie, and he's simply making rookie mistakes. More so, he's being asked to execute a blocking assignment that is as foreign to him as it apparently is to both Samuels and Jansen. Why on earth are we pulling Dockery on the goaline, where there is a chance that he in some way disrupts (or in his case knocks the ball from Ramsey's hand) the flow of the running play? It's simply Bad Offensive Line Play design.
bulldog
no, as an organization we bring in younger players and then don't have the patience to suffer through their inevitable mistakes in this case Dockery is only starting because the club didn't do a very good job of scoping (no pun intended) the health of the knees of one Mr. Fiore, who was signed to a multi-year contract. Dave missed almost all of the 2002 season with knee problems, wasn't someone healthier available who we could have signed and who could have provided solid if unspectacular play for us inside? This is where the experienced GM comes in Unlike Snyder/Cerrato, maybe a guy like Parcells or Rich McKay does't go after guys with serious knee problems like Fiore and Regan Upshaw?
