Nfl.com: Dallas Cowboys' Defense Humiliated In Loss To Saints

They allowed the Saints to score 40 first downs on them (the most scored in a single NFL game). They also gave up 625 total yards which is a Saints franchise record for yards gained and a Cowboys franchise record for yards given up, a record that the Cowboys already set earlier this season when the Lions racked up 623 yards on them lol.

As bad as things have been for our defense, this is just downright embarrassing if you're a Cowboys fan. They got absolutely pistol-whipped on Sunday Night Football.

Dallas Cowboys' defense humiliated in loss to Saints

Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin found out in Sunday night's 49-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints why counterpart Rob Ryan got railroaded out of Texas after last season.

Ryan's troops held firm early last season until linebacker Sean Lee's season-ending injury was the first in a line of dominoes to fall on defense.

Kiffin entered Sunday's game without defensive Anthony Spencer and Defensive Player of the Year candidate Jason Hatcher. By halftime, Lee was in street clothes with a hamstring injury while All-Pro pass rusher DeMarcus Ware was in and out with an injury of his own.

Although free safety J.J. Wilcox is hardly a household name, his knee injury might have been the most damaging of the bunch. Fill-in starter and nascent Around The League whipping boy Jeff Heathwas abused for big plays all night long.

It certainly didn't help that linebacker Bruce Carter, in and out of Kiffin's doghouse, put forth aquestionable effort.

The result was the ugliest in a series of brutal showings for Kiffin's defense this season. Already the only defense in history to surrender four 400-yard passing performances in a season, the Cowboysrolled over for a Saints record 625 yards to go with an NFL record 40 first downs.

In so doing, they also became the first defense in two and a half years to allow a 100-yard performance to 2011 draft bust Mark Ingram. Dallas' defensive futility is perhaps best illustrated by the fact that three of the top five fantasy running-back performances of Week 10 came from theSaints backfield.

While Ryan's defense is arguably the most improved unit in the NFL, Kiffin's enters the bye week licking its wounds.

For all of their defensive woes, Sunday was just the second time this season the Cowboys didn't hold a lead at some point in the fourth quarter. They've been the most competitive team in a weak NFC East. As long as the week off heals what ails Hatcher, Lee, Ware and Wilcox, the remaining schedule is light enough to keep pace with a revitalized Eagles team.

You are absolutely correct. It is downright embarrassing. This is, by far, the worst Cowboys defense I have ever seen and it may be one of the worst defenses in NFL history.

While injuries to your best defensive players has a lot to do with it, there is obviously so much more to it than that. Sean Lee, as good of a player as he is, has proven to be made of glass. So once again, Jerruh signs another questionable player to a fat contract. Add that to the fact that the team is loaded with aging stars who take up too much of the salary cap, as well as younger players who are not playing to their potential. It all starts to add up.

People blame Kiffin. He's terrible. But what exactly was/is supposed to do with the list of players we have? Wynn? Rayford? Nevis? Brown? Heath? Webb?

We've got two UDFA Starting at Safety. A 4th round bum starting in the slot.

Two scrubs starting at linebacker.

Only 2 of our 8 defensive lineman WERE ON A TEAM in training camp. 17 different defensive lineman this year ... unreal.

Hopefully we get some guys back Mo, Hatcher, Lee, Wilcox and we can get back on track.

the sad part is they have a better record than us

Based off Garretts career record of being 17-1 against Sub .500 teams and being terrible against Above .500 teams the rest of the season should go as followed ...

Giants -- W. (At best they will be 4-6)

Raiders -- W. (At best they will be 5-6)

Bears -- L. (They have Cutler and are above .500 Now)

Packers -- L. (Below .500, but Rodgers will be back)

Redskins -- W (Unless the Skins grind out tough wins)

Eagles -- L. (Should put us at 8-8 and 2nd in the NFC East as the Eagles win the East).

I see a team that is about ready to quit on Garrett and Co. Garrett, Romo sits to pee , Witten, Ware represent the old guard. The young players see an aging leadership core that really don't anything about winning. When the credibility is lost, so goes the season. We'll be lucky to finish 6-10.

A few weeks ago (I don't remember after which set of games) I was listening to ESPN radio while driving on a sunday night. I switched around during a commercial and landed on Mad Dog radio. Didn't hear the whole thing, but the host was going on a rant about how the three worse defensive backfields in football are in the NFC East. After a minute, he listed them; Dallas, Philly and the Giants. As a Skins fan, I nearly choked.

Yet this Dallas team with such a PATHETIC defense which has been decimated by injuries still held the Redskins' high powered offense to a paltry 16 points.

To me that is the saddest part that the Skins couldn't dominate such an awful defensive team and wound up losing that game which could loom large in the battle for the NFC East...

In fairness, the Defense you faced is not the Defense we have on the field today.  We only had 17 Defensive players suited up for the Saints and of those, Only 6 starters.   Of those 6 starters, Church, Carr, Lee, Carter, Durant and Ware, we lost Ware, Durant and Lee in that game.

Not an excuse because everybody has injuries and you have to find a way to overcome but this Defense is light years away from the one you faced earlier in the year.
