Early Worry Against Denver...kickoffs And Field Position.

I won't make this very long, but it's something that occurred to me during the Bears game andf has me far more worried for the upcoming game against Denver.  I'm only posting this today because I may not have time later in the week.

Obviously we want to keep the ball away from Holiday since I'm fairly certain that even John Fox himself could run one back for a TD on this ST unit.  The problem is we don't have the power at the PK position to consistently kick the ball out of the back of the endzone, forcing us to squib on a regular basis to attempt to keep it from Holiday.  So it leaves us in a position of pick your poison.  Risk Holiday taking one (or more) to the house, or give Manning a short field over and over again?

I also realize this is a problem that would be good to have, as kicking off many times in a game should mean we're putting up points. :)

When you have guys that consistently don't see the field everyweek, I will not understand the reasoning for letting a kick-off specialist like Potter go when that's both the last thing Kai is and our coverage units stand in the bottom three of the league.

If we kick to Holiday even the once next week like we did to Hester then Burns wants publicly flogging on the sideline.

Hail.

*Edit* And give Moss the punt return job and maybe Swiss Army Niles the kick return role. Hell knows their both doing little else come Sundays.

Honestly I don't know who's decision was to let go of Potter.  right now I will take him over a lot of STs players because its almost a guarantee he will "tackle" the runner at the 20.  Can we say this about anyone else on special teams?

Having said this, if Kai can't kick the ball deep or out of the endzone in Denver every time, then he is a liability for every where else and for my money we MUST bring Potter in. We have been saying defense is the problem, offense has issues and special teams suck but I truly believe the one thing that has consistently hurt us is the special teams, not only by allowing TDs but the horrid field position they give the offense and the excellent on average Field position our opponents get.

man, that is going to be a big concern, but I'm worried tackling.

If  you noticed last night, it seemed that the Colts never let let Moreno and guys on the short stuff get extra yards.

McCown went 14-20 against us with 2 td's... imagine what that witch wearing #18 will do?

Maybe in the thin air Forbath can kick it out of the endzone?

Yea, this has been mentioned a couple of times.  I really hope he can.  The irony is that the air there could also be an enemy.  If the defense struggles as would be expected, just imagine them again a no-huddle, Manning-run offense.

Aside from the obvious things to be worried about (#18, #87, #88, #83, #80) I am most worried about our ST.  No one is motivated on our special teams and it really shows.  Serious question: have we gotten a kickoff return past the 30 yd line all season?

It's cause we have Josh Morgan of all people as our kickoff returner.  God knows why though.  The guy doesn't even LOOK fast.

This may sound silly but there's some hs coaches that do it.

Onside kick it every time, and yes I know this would never happen and I'm kinda joking here, BUT, think about it.

Peyton is gonna get to midfield damn near every time anyway, prolly won't punt all day against that d. And also we won't risk a big rerun and the best part is we got a shot at recovering it. Lol

We really need to kick it away from Trinidon Holliday.

He's like Brandon Banks, only 100X better.

So I guess, not like Brandon Banks at all. I don't know where I was going with that.

Banks is in the CFL playing for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.  Even with their 5 yard halo, he still can't break one.  I watched Hamilton play Toronto a week ago and he still gets nowhere on kicks or punts.

They shouldn't fear Holliday. Rocca just needs to do a better job placing the kicks and getting more air under it to allow more time for everyone to get down field. Lets go ROCCA!!!!

Hester's TD was a beautiful punt. High, deep and on the sideline. Not Rocca's fault that Niles Paul couldn't make a tackle that most high schoolers make.

It almost looked to me like he hesitated b/c he didn't know if he was allowed to be the first to attempt the tackle after being out of bounds.  Regardless, it's Hester, you take his ass down ASAP.
