Dont Taze Me Bro
Hey everyone, me and the wife and another couple are driving up to DC for the Bears game this Sunday. We are coming up Saturday and leaving Monday. Last time I was up for a game was the Dallas game in 2002 and we took the metro (blue line I think) to a stop I can't remember but then a bus from there to the stadium. I see now that you can take the orange line to Morgan Blvd and heard it's only about a mile walk to the stadium. Well, is this the best way to get to the game? Is it a safe walk? I really don't want to walk anymore than I have to cause I'm lazy. I was thinking about driving to the stadium but have no idea about parking, which lots I can pay to park at, how long the walk is to the stadium or how bad traffic will be after the game, trying to get back to our hotel in Dulles. I remember that when we left the game, took the shuttle bus back to the metro and drove home, it was a huge mess and I was sitting in traffic for hours after the game, it was 6:30 before I broke free on I-95. I can hang out in the parking lot til 5:30 or so before leaving, since we aren't leaving for home until Monday. Any suggestions?
airborneskins
In my opinion, it really depends on you and how patient you are. Metro: Morgan BLVD is the metro that you are referring to. Yes. It is a safe walk, but it is also a 3/4 mile to the stadium. If you are looking at "ease", i recommend doing this. Driving: If you are planning on tailgating, get a green parking pass (try stubhub) and drive to the stadium. Tailgating is a blast (especially when you have a bunch of people), but you can (and most likely will) get stuck in traffic after the game. If you drive in, buy a green pass and go in off of Garrett Morgan BLVD. Its by far the easiest in and out of the stadium (but can still take awhile). Also, I hear that the ES tailgate is a pretty good pace to hang out (but I believe the best way to get there is off of Arena Drive). 1 big thing to plan on if driving is to get there early! The lots open at 9AM for a 100 game. I would try to get to arrive at the stadium b/t 0900 and 1000 in order to get a good spot to tailgate. Either way, enjoy the game. HTTR. Popeman38
Drive. Park in the Tailgate Park and Walk field ($25 cash day of game) off Barlowe Rd and walk to the ES tailgate. When you go home, avoid the Beltway like a plague. If you are staying in Dulles, you can be at your hotel in 45 min after you start your car from that lot if you take the toll road to 28. I live in Leesburg now, and it is an hour for me. On gameday, if you leave the hotel at 8, you can be parked at 8:45. 10 min walk to the ES tailgate area, and you will be there to help them set up since their lot opens at 9. I can send you easy to follow directions to avoid all the delays on game day if you want.

Kosher Ham
Great replies guys. Keep them coming! How far from the ES tailgate to the stadium, just curious? It's at the stadium...in the parking lot ? ? ? A few minutes. Curious why you wouldn't just take the Metro from somewhere closer to Dulles... (I forget the name of the stop) out near Dulles/Tysons Corner. I always park at the stadium, but the walk is nothing crazy (shorter than how far people walk to go to Foxboro), you get some time to relax and sober up if you had a few, and vent. Then you get to ride nearly to Dulles and have a short ride (or even cab ride) to the hotel. Ugh, I sometimes miss living in bigger cities where the busses and trains ran almost all the time and you could always find a cab.

Kosher Ham
It's cheaper and the walk is not anything crazy. Weather should be fine. You probably walk half a mile a day anyway without even thinking about it. Like I said, I park at the stadium when I go. But from the people that have told me about the walk it doesn't seem too serious. When you are not driving, it is a lot safer to hit up the ES tailgate. Bring something to the tailgate however. Don't be "that guy" , even if it's cash it works. You can take a cooler on the train. Food, beverage, whatever. ES tailgate is family friendly so it makes it even better for some of the folks. You will be so amped up... the walk will go by like nothing. Tons of restaurants in the Tysons area as well. Even a cab from Tysons to Dulles is nothing absurd.
