NoCalMike
The topic has been hotly debated on the board in numerous RGIII threads. There are those who think he is still physically unable, there are others like myself who think that while his body is there, it is his mind that needs to trust his body again. I referenced Rodney Harrison's commentary on the situation who came back from reconstructive surgery himself and said it took him a long time to trust his body and stop fearing the nature of the game around him. He said the fear fades, but slowly, but eventually you go back to playing full-on, not because you were physically unable before, but because the fear goes away. Well there is a newish story up on pro football talk from his interview on the radio today and I think this paragraph sums it up the best Initially, Andrews was asked generally about the difference between being medically cleared and 100 percent. Griffin’s name wasn’t specifically mentioned (it seems that one of the ground rules was that Griffin wouldn’t be specifically discussed), but Andrews sensed where it was going. “Well, that’s a difficult question and it’s probably not fair to discuss that under the circumstances,” Andrews said, “but I can tell you that generally when you think an athlete’s ready to go back, he’s still got about two months to go through the psychological aspects of it and to get his mind cleared about what’s happened to him, and to be ready to really get back to his previous level. So it’s not a clear line, a clear definition to be able to make those decisions.” When I read something like that, coming from the Dr. himself, what it tells me is that RGIII's recovery from this point out can only be completed on the field, playing himself back to top form. It can't be done on the bench, or during practice. The mental barriers, the doubts, the disconnect between body & mind is something that has to be done with live football games, and we the fanbase have to roll with that fact regardless if it takes a month, half or an entire season. DaGoonie55
Agreed. Good article. I really cannot wait to watch him gain confidence. He's going to be back to his old self making teams look dumb in no time! HTTR

Tyron Biggums
Dr. Andrews has and is the most highly regarded sports injury Dr. for over 20 years now. We are dam lucky to have him (thank you Mr. Snyder). I saw RG3 regain more and more confidence the last 3 games. I think in 3 weeks he will be all the way back in trusting his knee again. If he keeps passing for 320+ a game he will find bigger lanes to run through when he is ready to let loose his speed and dynamic play style. For now I m just sitting back eating popcorn, reading ES smh @ some so called Skin fans on here. Hail

Bang
Dr. Andrews went further, confirming for redskins fans that if they don't look both ways before crossing the street, they might be hit by a car. Seriously,, who NEEDED to be told this? Did he have to be bothered to answer something that is so obvious? ~Bang

Bang
So what you're saying is we need to bench him and put in Cousins, right? Oh, absolutely. that and ban RG3s dad from Redskins park, and prevent Robert from holding press conferences, and to set up an ice cream social for him and the coach so they can hug out their power struggle, because as we all know Mike never wanted him in the first place. it's the only way. ~Bang

A lot of people need this tattooed on them.I have to assume a lot of the people here have never had an injury bad enough to make them unable to walk and to need therapy to return. I had almost the same injury as TO at almost the same time. Ill never forget him playing in the SB, while I was playing balloon lagoon with my 4 yo niece, hopped up on pain meds afraid to walk to the bathroom. having the ability to walk be takin from you is terrifying. It must be worse for a track star and elite qb. He'll be back soon.

Don't call them/us so-called Skins fans, please. People deal with frustration in different ways; I get cynical and critical, its just my nature. Some people latch on to irrational hope (not pointing fingers). We're all trying to cope with the disappointment, after spending the offseason dreaming of top 5 rankings in bs power polls and Lombardi trophies. It hurts both pride and the soul. I still want Haslett fired. But I have no other team to root for. HTTR

Bantu
I hate having to deal with losing, but I've started to realize that he just needs time & experience on the field as his last benchmark to clear for recovery. An actual blessing in disguise, perhaps, as this maybe sheds light on parts of the team that truly need upgrading in the future.

Its all nonsense. If he's healthy then take the training wheels off ... if he's not recovered yet then sit him down. Unless Andrews can play Right Tackle better than Polumbus, Center better than Montgomery, or Safety at all ... I really don't give a flying damn about Andrews right now. NoCalMike
Yes and I wouldn't underestimate the amount of folks who do indeed need this drilled into their head, because a lot of people see RGIII on the field right now, pair it with "he is 100%" and then put those together and assume that means what we see right now is as good as it will ever get. Just look at the comment thread of the actual article, now I assume a lot of those are from non-Skins fans just being internet trolls, but they are the typical knne-jerk responses like "one year wonder" "never will run again" "He's done" along with all the nicknames and stuff. skins island connection
Here's my overall perspective of this whole ordeal. figuratively speaking, of course. A co-worker and myself were talking about our teams and their ups and downs, and as he was talking, something kept buzzing around his face. He would take a swat at it but miss, and keep talking. Again, it came back, buzzing. He said " what the hec is that ?!" I thought for a second, then told him " thats a'circle fly'. He says " whats that?" I told him " well, thats one of those flies that circle around a horse's ass." He frowned and said " hey, are you calling me a horse's ass ?" I simply told him " no i'm not, but ya can't fool that fly"... Sometimes in life, it is what it is... Eventually RGIII will learn that the media isn't his friend; til then, nothing he says or does will doubtfully be broadcast correctly in context... NoCalMike
"He looks different," Oakland safety Charles Woodson told NFL Network. "Having an injury like that, it's all good to work as hard as you can to get back sooner than you want to, but the mental aspect - that's the part you really have to get over, and he's still dealing with that part." HtownRocks111
The main question I want answered, is alot of people are saying that if RGIII was cleared to play Game 1 of reg season, he should've be cleared to play a series or two in the preseason. I'm almost under the impression they were afraid of the consequences if RGIII did get hurt in preseason but Im not sure what to think,

I'm almost under the impression they were afraid of the consequences if RGIII did get hurt in preseason but Im not sure what to think, That's my guess...the fallout from some sort of fluke injury would have been ridiculous. You could also make the argument that 2-3 drives for Griffin wouldn't have really provided much. It's taken him a solid 2-3 regular season games to appear to be more comfortable. Even in hindsight, it's easy to understand why they just waited unti week 1. Had they thought he could have played a normal pre-season schedule (for example, if the hit vs. Baltimore was the one that started the clock on his recovery and he was a month ahead of where he is) then I think pre-season reps would have been useful.
