Redskins Cut Veteran Devery Henderson

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry it didn't work out for Devery. I really thought he was a nice fit in the slot but he couldn't get separation on the DBs in training camp and I imagine his time away sealed his fate. I feel for his lost and hope he rebounds elsewhere.

I believe the Eagles are looking for receiver help...real bad.

I like it we need to go with a young player. Devery was a nice WR at one time but he is at the end of his career and we need to keep another young kid that could help us for years to come. Sorry for his loss and that it did not work out here, maybe he can land a spot elsewhere. Best of luck Devery!

I think he will find his way back to N.O. as they need WR help and he already knows the system. While our WR's are not yet outstanding, they are a solid group. I wonder which young WR will break out in the Pitts game. Lewis seems like a guy who is close, Maybe Robinson will find his hands, or Dawson will get 3 or 4 REC and show he can be a kick returner. That one down and 3 more to go. If today was cut day, I would have Garcon, Morgan, Hankerson, Moss, Robinson and Stallworth, with Lewis and Dawson on the PS or IR.

All I saw him do is drop passes in the 1st preseason game, why would you say that?

He was brought in as a punt/kick return specialist and a possible backup to Moss as a slot receiver. He's about 5'10'' & 185 lbs. and has the potential to succeed in the mold of Wes Walker and Danny Amendoula. He went 2-4 with 6 yds playing with the 3rd string. If Shanahan signed him as a undrafted rookie then I think there's something to him. Hell, we kept that bum Brandon Banks for 2 years and he was afraid of contact. Kids got a lot of heart and at 22 years old, he's worth a shot. Next game I expect to see him return punts and kicks.

Williams was targeted 4 times, catching 2. One of the other targets he fought his way to the endzone only to be called back for a penalty on the line. So I am curious, did you just watch one play??? :-) Seriously, he only had one other opportunity so he could only drop one pass.

I liked the way he fought his way into the End Zone. As Manchild said, if we can keep Banks for as long as we did, this guy may be worth it if he is good in STs. At least he can catch.

I would have to agree with 157 & 10 not sure how you could knock N Williams performance in his first preseason game? I would grade him with an A for the 1st game (IMO)

I would like to see more of Nick Williams before giving thumbs up or down. I did see him in the Maryland game last year in which he did pretty good. I hope he can earn more preseason game reps by standing out in practice. The kick return job is still open but you do not get a chance to play in preseason games unless you show the coach's you have learned the skill sets they are teaching. It is not like the old days when all you had to do sign a contract. With 6 preseason games to play, everyone on the roster got a shot, now with limited hitting in practice and only 4 preseason games, not everyone see's the field. Now you must earn that right by standing out in practice.  Under Joe Gibbs, many a rookie joined the Bible study group in hopes of gaining extra favor with the coach and gaining more preseason game time. As a rookie, you look for any edge you can get. Good Luck Nick Williams. I hope you do well!

I agree with that. My point or grade was for the reps he was giving in his 1st preseason game, from what I seen he did well and not sure what dreday seen or did not see?

@ Ken - I am not ready to give the kid a roster spot, my only point was he has 4 chances in the game and he caught 3 of them, one being called back for a penalty that had nothing to do with his (illegal formation by the Oline). My comments were strictly how he did during the first game.

How do you guys get that comments inside a box thing??

You know that when a receiver has incompletions in his first couple of passes alot of times that is what we remember. I paid attention to him when he entered the game and later went back to watched Pat White's 4th qrt. play prompting me to then key in on Nick Williams to see how he played. We need a replacement eventually for Moss, practice squad him, 53 man roster, whatever, he hasn't cost us a draft pick, will sign for minimum and we can bring him along. Griff will make him better for sure,

goskins10, I agree, we seem to have a few guys at the WR spot who could make this team. I am just happy that our roster is not filled with guys who have no chance in the NFL like a few years ago. Coach Shanny and GM Allen have done a nice job putting together this roster. As a football fan I like what I see, As a Redskins fan I have great hope for this year. I can not wait to grade out a few more preseason games to see who raises to the top.

IMO Nick Williams will be cut and in best case scenario he will signed as a practice squad player. He won't be in high demand in the open market unless he blows it up these next few games. He'll need to shine especially on special teams if he is added to the practice squad. I just don't see how we keep him if we only sign 7 WRs. If we sign 8 WRs then he has a chance to make the squad. I think both Hankerson and Robinson can play the slot position behind Moss. Unless we lose one of the big 5 from injury, this is how I see the WR spot playing out with Lewis beating out Stallworth 6th spot.

The seventh comes down to Stallworth or Dawson. There are more games to be played in preseason so I reserve my right to change my opion  :D

Ok you compared him Welker and Ammendola fine, but I need to see him catch the ball 1st lol. As a player that just KR or PR does not seem beneficial to the team, You know I wasn't a Banks fan, so if we can find a versatile player that can get more than one job done, that fine with me.   I'll keep my eye on your boy, but I tend agree with Marvin Lewis (Hard Knocks HBO lol) when he said a player can't make a team roster by what he does on the practice field.  He's gotta do it in the game.

Yeah, I heard Marvin say that and it's a good one for sure. He ain't no lock to make the team by any stretch, hope to see him in the next game do some returns and be a receiver. Gotta play them to figure out if they can help the team. Yeah Dre, none of us was Banks fans, watching that guy run to the sideline as fast as he could to avoid contact, haha!

I saw him drop 2 passes, I only go by the results goskins.  I did see the 2 passes he caught but I didn't say that to criticize him, I just asked manchild what fueled his interest in the kid when we saw him drop easy passes?  Now, I don't watch college football and I don't care what a player does in practice because he won't make the team that way IMO.  These games are here to give coaches a chance to show what they can do and you don't get many opportunities.  HTTR!
