Slateman
How are people not? The DMV area is premium territory for this kind of technology. Think about how many people commute two hours each way. How many sit on 66 past 495 just trying to get to Chantilly or Centreville? Build two of those in Virginia. Start one in Front Royal. Have it make three or four stops between Front Royal and Union Station. Same thing for down south, starting in Leesburg. You could conceivably start at both places at 8am and be in your office by 9am. No more 700k townhomes. No more cramming a million people in to a county and not having parking. No more clogging the roads with way too many cars, because the alternative (Metro) is slower.
The Evil Genius
At that speed, living in Richmond and commuting to NoVa/DC would be easy.
