Mexico government confirms capture of Zetas cartel leader

Mexico's Navy captured Miguel Angel Trevino, leader of the Zetas drug cartel, in northern Mexico early on Monday, a government spokesman confirmed.

The capture is a key security victory for President Enrique Pena Nieto.

Mexican authorities captured the leader of the ruthless Zetas cartel Monday, using a military helicopter to intercept a pickup truck he was riding in near the border, officials said.

Miguel Angel Trevino Morales, known as Z-40, was detained by federal authorities Monday morning in an operation in the Mexican border state of Tamaulipas, said Eduardo Sanchez Hernandez, the Mexican government's security spokesman.

Trevino had $2 million dollars and eight weapons with him when he was captured, Sanchez said.

The Zetas leader was riding in the pickup truck with two others about 27 kilometers away from the border city of Nuevo Laredo -- known as the headquarters of the powerful cartel -- when authorities spotted them around 3:45 a.m., Sanchez said.

His arrest is the most significant blow to drug trafficking in Mexico since President Enrique Peña Nieto took office in December.

Need to treat them like Terrorists, that's all they really are. Drop a few JDAM's on their houses and send in a few Spec Ops raids and they will quickly realize that they can't spend all that money they are making on nice things.
