Volunteer at Training Camp?

My wife applied and went on the 10th for the interview. She said it went well. She hasn't heard anything yet. Also, they didn't tell her when they would get back to her. They told her she was being considered for something in marketing. Her sister said: "Does that mean you'll be walking around RVA all day wearing a sandwich board?"

Lol! Do you know if they wrote anything on her card? If they did, what?

She said it had an "A" on it. She talked with some dude inside, security guy on the stairs & then a young woman in the lobby.

As of this morning, she hasn't heard a thing. Anyone here get any response from the Redskins yet?

Awesome! I'm feeling pretty good about my chances now! Sadly, I haven't heard from them yet either. Hopefully it will be soon so I can adjust my work schedule.

Nothing yet. Everything went well during interview process so kinda expected an email or call by now with details on orientation.

"Congratulations!

You have been selected to serve as a 2013 Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Camp Ambassador. With over 1,000 applicants from whom to choose, we are proud to have you represent the Washington Redskins and the City of Richmond....."

And so it begins....

I got it! I'm an ambassador!

I also can't remember which time I signed up for for orientation...I'll figure it out somehow...

>> Does this mean you have Diplomatic Immunity?  If so, please choke to death anyone wearing a Dallas jersey at our training camp.

That's my plan. I figure it's a direct threat, so the Stand Your Ground Law applies.  B)

So any idea what jobs you will be doing?

At the interview they asked what experience I have with customer service. I'm a teacher, so it's customer service all day, every day. I figure it will be something working directly with people.

Congrats to all that made it, and thanks for volunteering. The Bon Secours site released some updated parking info today:

I made a quickie map on google

Pretty sure they have me pegged to work in some type of security role. The example the guy gave me was working the parking lots and potentially escorting players, coaches, etc to & from fields.

Anyone else going in for training today?

My wife goes Tuesday. How about a write-up when you get back? :)

You got it!

Well, first the place looks great! As you cruise down broad street they have banners displaying Redskins and Bon Secours, so you really get a feel that it's a major event and you're getting close to it. Of course the moment I pulled in to the parking lot it began pouring rain, so I had to walk from the lot to the field where the tents are. Luckily that cleared up quickly, and it was beautiful. Once you get there they check you in, and give you some forms to fill out. Once all that was done, the head director guy gave a speech about how awesome it is to be a part of the Redskins, and basically what he expects of us representing the Redskins. From there we heard from other staff members about exactly what we will be doing and the things going on around camp. They were all really cool, super friendly and really seemed happy to be there.

They have a Redskins store set up as soon as you come through the entrance (Good ol' Dan!). Vendors that will be there include Johnny Rockets of course, Papa Johns, Famous Daves, Dippin Dots, and a few others that I can't remember. There will be various places set up where you can get snow cones, drinks, and what not. There is plenty of room for fans to watch practice. Along the sideline and endzone they have hills and a stadium seating type like area. On one endzone they have a kids only area so kids can see all the action without having to be on someones shoulders to see past the adults. This will also make it more likely that they get to interact with the players. Annnnd I think that about sums it up. I'll upload some pictures in a minute!

The uniform! On the back it says "AMBASSADOR".

That's all that I have. I wish I took more, because there is a lot of other stuff to see. The location is great with awesome sight lines of the museum, the Diamond, and a little bit of the Richmond skyline.

Way cool. We drove down there about 8pm this evening so I could show my wife a shortcut to get there.

Did they tell you what you're going to be doing & the days/times you are going to work?

Yeah, I'm basically going to be making sure fans don't go on the field, or lean on the ropes or go to areas they're not supposed to. I'm also there to let people know where things are, where to go, what to do etc.

There is an incentive program thing to.

If you work..

3 days = Redskin pin

5 days = Redskin pin

7 days = autograph session with the players

10 days = Two tickets to a pre season game with a ride there and back

12 days - Two tickets to a pre season game, ride there and back, and you get to run out the tunnel on the field before the players!

I also forgot to mention they're going to have a "kid zone" with a bunch of stuff to do.

I went last night as well. Luckily I was already under the tent being checked in before the sky opened up.

Place looks beautiful - green and manicured. If you are going, be prepared for being in the sun as shade will be hard to find. Many areas are roped off for VIP's, media, etc., and the building itself is completely off limits. There should be plenty of port-a-potties.

I'll be part of the security group, and our shifts are a little bit longer since we have to be in place before everything opens up. I'm signed up for morning shifts which are 6:30-1.

btw - for the incentives, the tickets are to a regular season game. The guy that was leading our group (VP-Operations) said you would line the tunnel on the opening Monday night game. I can't imagine how awesome that would be. I'm hoping he mis-spoke because he said you had to work 15 shifts, but the website clearly said 12+ (link below).

Damn that sucks you have to be there so early. I hope you're right about the tickets being for the opening game, that would be sick! Because honestly I was a little disappointed when I heard it was for a pre season game.

I have 11 shifts and you can bet I'll be volunteering to pick up another one. Our talk tonight started with, "The road to the Super Bowl starts in Richmond" and I got so excited that I was about to jump out of my seat!

HAIL!

Haha hail yeah! If you want to cover some of mine that would be awesome. I didn't think giving my availability would make it so they schedule me for every. single. day. lol
