REDSKINS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed free agent wide receivers Donté Stallworth and Devery Henderson and free agent kicker John Potter. Terms of the deals were not disclosed. In addition, the team waived tight end Deangelo Peterson and defensive end Doug Worthington with injured designations.

Stallworth (6-0 200) was originally drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the first round (13th overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 115 career games with 59 starts, amassing 321 receptions for 4,837 receiving yards (15.1 avg.) with 35 receiving touchdowns. Now entering his 11th NFL season, Stallworth has spent time as a member of the Saints (2002-05), Philadelphia Eagles (2006), Cleveland Browns (2008) and Baltimore Ravens (2010), and has spent two separate stints with both the Redskins (2011, 2013) and the New England Patriots (2007, 2012).

Stallworth was a member of the Redskins during the 2011 season, playing in 11 games and catching 22 passes for 309 yards with two receiving touchdowns. Last season, he joined the Patriots as a free agent, appearing in one game and registering one reception, a 63-yard touchdown against the Houston Texans in Week 14.

Stallworth played collegiately at Tennessee from 1998-2001, compiling 99 receptions for 1,747 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns. As a junior in 2001, he earned second-team All-SEC honors after posting 41 receptions for 821 yards (20.0 avg.) and 10 touchdowns.

Stallworth, 32, was born on Nov. 10, 1980. He played wide receiver and cornerback Grant H.S. in Sacramento, Calif., where he was voted California Player of the Year and named as an All-State defensive back and USA Today honorable mention All-American as a senior.

Henderson (5-11, 200) was originally drafted by the Saints in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft (50th overall). He spent his first nine NFL seasons with the team, playing 124 games with 76 starts and compiling 245 receptions for 4,377 receiving yards and 20 receiving touchdowns. Last season, Henderson appeared in 15 games with nine starts for the Saints, catching 22 passes for 316 yards with one touchdown.

Henderson played collegiately at LSU from 2000-03, appearing in 42 career games as both a wide receiver and a running back. For his career, he caught 77 passes for 1,310 receiving yards (17.0 avg.) and 19 receiving touchdowns in addition to adding 433 rushing yards on 83 carries with three rushing touchdowns.

Henderson, 31, was born on March 26, 1982. He attended Opelousas (La.) H.S., where he rushed for 1,322 yards and 20 touchdowns as senior and was a two-time 100- and 200-meter champion in track.

Potter (6-1, 219) was originally drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft (251st overall). He spent the first six weeks of the 2012 season as the Bills’ kickoff specialist, kicking off 24 times with 13 touchbacks and an average distance of 66.8 yards.

Potter, 23, played collegiately at Western Michigan, where he converted 47-of-65 field goal attempts and 184-of-188 PATs to become the school’s all-time leader for career points by a kicker. He was born on Jan. 24, 1990, and attended Grand Haven (Mich.) H.S., where he was a 2007 All-State selection by the Detroit News.

As a loyal Saints fan, I can give a little insight to Devery Henderson.  His first couple of years in the league, he was strictly a burner with shaky hands.  He led the league in YPC in 2006 and 2007.  He developed more consistency (from a hands standpoint) from around 2007-2010.  And the last couple of years, his speed has dropped off a little, but he developed into more of a complete WR, despite his production waning.  He's also a humble, quiet guy who has become one of the more impressive blocking WR's in the league.

Had a respectable 7 catches and 60-someodd yards in SB44.

Amongst LSU fans, his shining moment was "The Bluegrass Miracle."  Look it up on youtube.

I don't know how much gas is left in his tank, but he rose from something of a laughingstock early on, to being one of the more embraced players in New Orleans.

We're all glad that he got picked up, and I hope he doesn't disappoint.

Thanks for the insight. He may or may not have much left in the tank but seems to be healthy with not much of an injury history and he’s not THAT old. He also appears to be a decent guy with good work ethic. I'm liking the pick up more and more. Interesting that it kind of came out of the blue. As someone else said, there wasn’t even word that the Skins had interest or that he was in town.

Unless Potter turns out to be a really good punter, I don't see much future for him on our team. There's just no room for a K.O. specialist alone. I campaigned last year for a punter/K.O. combo and hope that he can be that guy. Leave Kai alone to master the FG thingy

Gotta love this FO's due diligence. It certainly can't hurt to have both Stallworth and Henderson on the roster right now. You never know what happens with injuries, at the very least, and you know those two can fill specific roles you had in mind for, say, Robinson and/or Hankerson fairly decently should they get hurt God forbid.

Camp fodder/ insurance.

Didn't realise Worthington was injured. That's a blow to the D-line rotation.

Hail.

I like big Doug, too.  Merling and Brace have a legit shot at a roster spot with Worthington and Carriker on the mend.  You know me, though... anyone but Golston please.

Also, I wouldn't say camp fodder just yet on the WRs.  I would be surprised if either make the team (though Henderson is very interesting) but the FO had to create legit competition at WR.  We basically had our top five/six from last year and a bunch of UDFAs.  Now we have two veterans, one of which can still ball pretty well and has a Super Bowl ring.

Don't know much about Henderson. Not expecting much from either but it's good to have some vets around to show the young guys how it's done.

If you watch college football, he was the WR who caught the TD in the "Blue Grass Miracle" for LSU over Kentucky.

If you watched the Saints at all the year they won the Super Bowl, he did a lot of Rickey Sanders impersonating.  He's 31 years old now but still has speed.

Like I said, I don't expect either of these two on the 53 but Henderson is a little more interesting for some reason.  Still think they are just here for legit competition at WR.

Awesome.  The Redskins just got a lot older.

Did we just finalize the 53 or something?

Don't be such a clown...

Like others in here, really more intrigued by the Henderson signing more than the Stallworth signing.  Did they release anyone to make room for Potter?  I'm counting 91 on my roster.

I'm not sure...  Maybe we have an exemption for Worthington at the moment?  What are you looking at?

Hail.

I saw where he tore a muscle, but I didn't know Deangelo Peterson broke his foot.

I keep my own roster for training camp on an MS Word file and I had 90 plus Tanard Jackson being suspended.  If we drop Peterson and Worthington, but pick up Potter, Stallworth and Henderson, I think I'll be one over.  I'll recheck my list later today.
