I don't think I've ever said that to anybody wearing Skins gear.  Ever. Dunno how it is overseas, but here in the DC Area, you're more likely to just get laughed at ("Ha! Look at that dorky Redskins fan! What a loser! " ) than anything else if you did say it.

So what you are saying is I won't be invited to your tailgate BBQ ?

If the Tri Lambs could make room for the Nerds surely you could make room for a dorky old white guy at your tailgate

My brother and I are the only Skins fans in the family 😔. Most of my friends are either Cowboys/Ravens fans, or football agnostic.

Only Skins tailgate would probably be an ES Tailgate

Maybe we could start our own, I'll be at 3 games this season, At the end of the day we are all ReDS.... err Washington football brethren

it's a very inclusive affliction :P

RFK is falling apart. Paint peels. Pipes leak. Concrete chunks fall. The city announced plans last year to demolish it, and I suspect not a dime has been spent on upkeep since.  You can plainly see the neglect walking or riding past it.

A lot of recreational stuff has gone up around it where parking used to be.  There are several artificial turf fields on the north side.  The new Anacostia Bike Trail goes past it. There's a strong community push to keep the area as green space and parkland for residents.

In any case, if the city once again becomes home to the Washington Fill-in-the-Blanks, I highly doubt they'll try to slap lipstick on the pig that RFK Stadium has become in order to host the team, even temporarily.

Yeah I think the idea is to build a brand new stadium at that site, but I'd honestly look elsewhere. I think National Harbor would be a great spot for a new stadium but obviously it isn't literally in DC. But Washington basically means DC/Maryland/Northern VA anyway.

What’s slippery about it? Why is it so unrealistic to think they wouldn’t try to eliminate every hint of the Redskins? You are already seeing placeS pull their merchandise.  It’s not like we’re the patriots and they would have to wipe out half their recent films for Super Bowls and such.

So that "Keep Redskins White," sign... Someone spent a non-zero amount of time and money creating that sign and never considered the ridiculousness of what he was writing?

If it is even real. You can never tell with photo shop now. There is no denying Marshall was a racist though.

This is pretty true.  Society and culture today doesnt say "I think we have progressed, and should make a positive change for the future, and look forward", it says "how do we remove all trace of the offensive, and attack that which lay behind".

The idea that in one breath people will say "This is so offensive that we must force them to change the name and logos, so we dont have to see it again", and then wont also say "This is so offensive to watch this now banned-name Redskins team in a replay of the 1992 Superbowl, how could you air this?"  If the name is that offensive to not allow them to watch their upcoming games on TV, than surely it must be too offensive to watch their past games on TV.  This eventually will go for any of the players and coaches who were part of it and didnt speak up.

I used to be a staunch supporter of the name. I would argue with anyone over it and try to change their mind and try to show them the "truth." But, things change. My wife and I have many friends that have many different backgrounds. Plus, my wife works with a ton of different people with different backgrounds.

Our friend Hari invited us to a family gathering one day. Hari is very nice and accepts anybody. He really understands that people are different. Well, I wore my Redskins shirt that day. We had hung out many times before this and he has never said a single thing to me about the name. But, when we were alone he simply asked 'Redskins means Indian right?' Of course, I just had to say 'yeah.' I tried to explain that is was in reference to Native Americans and not Indians such as him and his family. But that was really silly. I understood his point from the one question. Maybe I offended his family. I wasn't sure, but to this day I don't wear Redskins gear around him.

My wife stopped wearing her gear a long time ago. Like I said, she works with many people with different backgrounds. Everyone wears their gear every Friday. She stopped wearing hers out of respect for people and she didn't want to explain how the name isn't racist and definitely didn't want to explain why she isn't racist. She is one of the most caring and kind persons I have ever had the joy of knowing.

So things change. We have a variety of friends, coworkers, and doctors that we need to be comfortable around and not having to worry about our team name. Not having to worry that people think we are racist.

My main want out of a change is that the colors stay the same. But keep your minds open. You don't know what the change is going to be. You could end up liking it.

Considering what was done to Kaepernick decades later for his decision to speak out, I seriously doubt anyone will go after the players from that team on this.  We've known of GPM's racist beliefs for decades and nobody blames the members of the late 50s teams for his insistence on not having black players.

But even if that were to happen, how is that even relevant? This is a thread about whether its right or wrong to name a team the Redskins. "We can't change the name, because then people will want to go back in time and erase the team's history," is not an argument IMO. Indeed some people will probably feel that way, and I'll agree with you when that debate comes up.  But that alone is not a rationale for keeping the name. Either you believe the name is ok, and you offer your rationale, or you don't and you defend that point of view.

LOL, that picture is the pinnacle of brazen stupidity...

"Fight Communism, Fight Race Mixing" - as usual, communism\socialism (economic systems) are a boogeymen for anything that conservatives don't like.  On as sidenote, a few months ago Mitch McConnell compared Puerto Rican statehood to communism. (https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/mcconnell-seems-to-call-the-prospect-of-dc-statehood-full-bore-socialism/2019/06/18/2c3e0fd4-9216-11e9-b570-6416efdc0803_story.html), which is about as logical as that sign

"Reds Stink" - Cowboys fan against integration? (Also its worth noting that's the back of the sign, so maybe he came up with something smarter after the fact)

"Integration is not Black and White. It's Red." - either that's a play on words on the teams name (unlikely), or a threat of racial violence.  Classy.

"Mr. Marshall Keep Redskins White" - i already shared my thoughts above.

It's almost like the people who espouse racial superiority are the least qualified members of their race to act as an example.

Michael Wilbon think it’s all a ruse. He thinks there’s no way Dan changes the name. What may happen for the name to change, is for the NFL force Dan to sell.

Holy hell. If it forces Dan to sell the team, then I wouldn't give a damn if people named us the Tampons. I would gladly post on ExtremeTampons if it means getting rid of that POS Snyder.

Because there’s a line.  A line where stupidity takes over like realtors being banned now from saying master bedroom because of the word master.  People always have to take it too far.  This started at police brutality and now we’re talking about what we can name rooms in our home.
