SkinsNYC
Who do u guys think will have a better day against the tampa D? Canidate with his speed or watson with his power running? Tough Call. (hey i have both on my fantasy team and trying to figure out who to start alongside Ricky Williams?!?!) Hail! -SkinsNYC
RP81
Who do u guys think will have a better day against the tampa D? Canidate with his speed or watson with his power running? Tough Call. Definitely not Watson..... I would like to see Trung involved more in the offense, because I'm curious to see what he could do with 20+ carries. But if I was a betting man, I would have my money on Spurrier using Betts more than Canidate this week. The Bucs D are too fast to run around, meaning the only way through is straight up the gut. Plus, Ramsey seems pretty comfortable using Betts as his safety valve.
freakofthesouth
Betts, if either. This will be a tough week 6 for us. But, Betts will run more north and south, and not allow time for the tampa d to swarm to the ball. Canidate takes his time too much...which only works out sometimes. Phat Hog
I’d be completely surprised if we have a big running day, but Betts is probably the better back for the Tampa D – hit the hole, and take whatever they give you.
DaRock
I dunno..I had a dream last night that we released or traded trung, can't remember... But I will go with him anyway.
jbooma
I would say Candidate because Betts is injured
Atlanta Skins Fan
Betts. We need someone quick to the hole, and we need some power. Unfortunately Betts doesn't have quite enough power, so we may struggle even with him.
Riggo-toni
Betts is the closest thing we have to Stephen Davis. It oughta be Betts. He has a much quicker 1st gear, and pounds the hole harder (insert your tasteless Kobe joke here...).
SkinsNYC
sorry about the gaff about watson somebody, i meant canidate :hammer: a bruiser against tampa d does seem better, hopefully he can give us his best steven davis impersonation! bulldog
you aren't going to beat the Bucs with plays to the outside in the backfield, they are too quick for that. Davis ran for 140 yards vs. the Bucs' defense and others have had success running straight at them. I think Betts will have the better day. If Betts can get up around 80 yards and Canidate can contribute yards as a receiver I think the Skins will be balanced enough to remain competitive in this game. If Ramsey is forced to throw from the start I think it is going to be a long day. With the number of injuries the Bucs have on offense, the defense has a good chance here to hold Tampa down around 10-14 points. That will be a key. McCardell made plays against the Colts defense I don't expect him to make against Bailey. Also interesting will be whether the Skins use Arrington to pressure Johnson. jbooma
I guess no one cares that Betts is injured, oh well Spurrier already said he won't play much.

True but that is all the panthers do is run. We can beat them in the air as well since they don't have the entire secondary healthy. We just need to make sure to protect Ramsey. Luca Brasi
I haven't heard about Betts' injury. How bad is it?
Luca Brasi
I would try Candidate on some quick screens. I don't think he's getting many yards on the ground this week.
bulldog
sorry, folks, even though Betts has that dinged shoulder, I expect to see him in this game and for more than the token carry or two maybe Spurrier is playing possum a bit on this one? Saqs
I really dont think it matters. They're both capable. But if the runnin ggame is going to be effective at all, we have to run the ball 20+ times.
GURU
I say they need to run the ball at least 30 times . I don't believe you have to have a bruising running back to be effective. The Bucs are such good tacklers, I don't think big backs break a lot of tackles, anyway. You batter them with your blockers, not your back. The key for the back is to run north/south and get upfield quickly. Betts has the requesite burst. Canidate gets a bad rap when it comes to that aspect, in my opinion. Some have accused him of dancing, which I haven't observed. He's more of a straight line runner, and doesn't really juke defenders. Instead, he's got this little hesitation move. He stops slightly, and when the defender redirects, he changes his trajectory a bit. When he hesitates, it's not neccessarily because he's not sure where to go. From my observations, when he makes that little hesitation, sometimes the tacklers run by him a little, and then he hits it upfield. He's actually gained more yardage a few times with that move than he would have if he had simply hit the hole straight up. So I think he can be effective against the Bucs. He doesn't break many tackles, but the Bucs tackle so well, anyway, I don't think that's going to be much of a factor. Again, 30 rushes should be the goal. You just can't be one-dimensional, especially against the Bucs defense.
freakofthesouth
We have to pound the run at these guys. But, we need to establish the run, and then go to the air. Sell the play-action. The mix must be there this week. It always seems its run, run, run, run....and then pass, pass, pass, pass. We need run,pass,play-fake,run,run,pass...etc. Mix it up Spurrier! Ramsey came out throwing last week, and came out flat. Run it, then throw it, then mix it up.
panel
I don't know or care who will get the most yards this sunday, but who will wear down the D more, And I think it will be Betts, but if Trung's runs to the out side can be affective, he will wear out the D better. Skeletor The Invincible
You know what? I think that Betts needs to see the ball more. Canidate looks too tentative out there, Betts simply picks a hole and runs at it. He even seems quicker out there. It's pretty clear that Betts is the better back. Saqs
It's pretty clear that Betts is the better back. So far this season, Canidate has 1 more carry than Betts (54 vs 53) but over 70 more yards rushing total. I dont think it's so cut & dry. Betts does have 2 TDs though. Ignatius J.
if power running is part of the recipe for defeatin the bucs, then why has no one mentioned the rock? Could this be the week he gets consistant touches? -DB
Skeletor The Invincible
Alright, maybe not "pretty clear", but for my money I'd take Betts every time.
Luca Brasi
Originally posted by Skeletor The Invincible It's pretty clear that Betts is the better back. That's simply not the case. Candidate has had some excellent runs that HE created. Betts takes what's given to him, which isn't a downfall by any means. Both backs have their own strenghts and weaknesses, but one is not clearly better than the other by any means.
TC4
Betts will The one weakness of the Bucs D is that you can run right up the middle on them and get big yards, and Betts is better up the middle with his power. Candiate on the other hand, might have a harder time because the Bucs have the speed to offset his speed, because their D is predicated to rushing the QB, but not to defend against a power running attack, like when the Panthers beat them in week 2 with Stephen Davis rushing for 142 yards on 33 carries
