Attner Gives the Redskins some props

I still haven't forgiven Paul Attner of TSN for lat year's comments about Darrell Green, but he does a nice job here of stating the obvious. smile.gif

"SCHOTTENHEIMER FINALLY FIGURING IT OUT

Give Marty Schottenheimer credit. He coached horribly early in the season but he has adjusted the Redskins offense the last two weeks, allowing Tony Banks to throw more downfield. Banks is a vertical passer and insisting that he try to perform West Coast offense quarterback chores is a bad use of his talent. And maybe the Redskins will continue to run Stephen Davis more, something they should have been doing much earlier."

You gotta wonder what Jeff George is thinking right now. If he'd been given the same opportunity as Banks to open up the vertical passing game then he might be enjoying the same or better success right now.

Granted, there's the argument that George was too stoic and demonstrated little leadership qualities. However he was far more familar with the offense and in Banks' shoes right now he might give the offense more wrinkles than opposing defenses have been faced with so far. Also remember that Banks' and George's numbers were very similar when presented with the same offensive play calling.

Then again, perhaps signing Graham gives us a better 1-2 quarterback duo than George/Banks would have given us.

Banks might be an incosistent smack but he does PLAY (not practice from what hear) with emotion. When something doesn't go right, you can tell when he's pissed. I like that. I am not counting on Banks here or judging him vs. George but we can all sit here and hope that he's just another QB who matures very late like Gannon and we can keep him. Not likely but those thoughts help me sleep at night....that, heavy drinking and hardcore needles drugs.......not really.

I have no idea of what Jeff George is thinking just as long as he's thinking elsewhere. smile.gif

Honestly, before last year the two players in the NFL I liked least were Deion Sanders and Jeff George. It pained me greatly to see either of them in burgundy and gold. I'm pleased neither are with the team.

I notice that Minnesota, which lacks a good reserve QB, hasn't signed George, where he had his one winning season. Interesting....

I felt the same way, TC. In fact, I dreaded the day Deion would score because I didn't want to see his sorry @ss dancing while wearing a Redskin uniform. George wasn't much better IMHO, but he was good for one great game last year. Too bad it couldn't have been against Dallas.

We'll be just fine without them.

Kurp, on an objective level you are right that Jeff George would have been more effective in the modified attack of the past couple of weeks.

On my own subjective level, I was sick and tired of looking at him in a Redskins uniform and his lousy attitude typified by his "leadership" comments only reinforced my belief that regardless of his abilities the Redskins were never going to rally around him as a leader or difference maker.

In the way things turned out am I sad we don't have Trent Dilfer? Yes.

But of the group of Brad Johnson, Jeff George, Todd Husak or Tony Banks, right now I am fine with who we ended up with. At least for 2001.

I too thought brining Dilfer here would be a big mistake cause I really thought Husak was the future. My bad.

Dilfer is looking money right now even though Banks is not making me hate him currently.

I still beieve J George was still injured and thus done.

You still have to look at the insertion of B Coleman at RG to give us alittle push on running plays and bettr pass protection as being part of our success.

T Banks with a full camp and a healthy O line would probably meant a reverse in our record.

Hopefully we can resign T Banks to a reasonable contract and see how well Sage is before the season ends to avoid wasting a draft pick on a QB.

Hopefully this is just a way of getting value for our pick if we lose enough games to be able to pick a Carr for example.
