LONDON (Reuters) - A flawless, colorless diamond the size of a walnut will go to auction next month with a price tag of around $10 million.

When the hammer finally falls at the Geneva salesroom of Sotheby's on November 20, the nameless gem which weighs in at 103.83 carats will be the largest "D color" internally flawless diamond ever to be sold at auction.

"D is the best and this is the very best of the very best," said Alexandra Rhodes, head of jewelry at the auction house's Geneva office at a London preview on Tuesday.

The stone is just five carats lighter than the famed Koh-I-Noor diamond.

But unlike many giant diamonds, this one has no history to cloak it in romance.

The stone, property of international diamond trading firm Steinmetz Group, was found at South Africa's Premier Mines within the last few years.

Planning the cutting and carrying it out, in Johannesburg and New York, took 18 months.

It has since been on show at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington alongside six of the world's other major diamonds.
