Lombardi's_kid_brother
They're like kids who are misbehaving. They crave attention. Any and all attention fuels their fire. I don't consider them a church. Leviticus 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD. You missed the point. So go and picket someone elses funeral. Noone will be at yours. They aren't a church. They are a family cult. The "church" has about 40 members and pretty much all of them are members of the Phelps family. They are also quite possibly the biggest PR geniuses in this country. How many churches with more than 40 members are there in this country? How many of them are more famous than Westboro? All they want is publicity. If people actually made a concerted effort to ignore them, they would vanish. ---------- Post added December-20th-2012 at 11:24 AM ---------- I honestly dont understand the logic of the Westboro Baptist Church. They have the right to beleive what they want. They have the right to share those beliefs with others. It seems their goal is to get other people to hate homosexuality. I get that - Freedom of speech. They can beleive and say what they want. But what i dont get, is what theyre actually trying to accomplish. How do they think they will convince ANYONE to join them by picketting the funerals of soldiers and murdered children. All they do is make themselves look bad. I suppose that since theyre all crazy hate-mongers, there is no logical explanation for their actions. They aren't trying to save anyone. They aren't trying to convert anyone. There is a twisted logic to the church where that they believe God has already passed His judgment on America and America is doomed. Everyone..you...me...Father O'Brien at the rec center. It's over and they are the only people "saved." All they are doing is heralding this news. Repeatedly. And it's become the family business. A lot of the family members are attorneys and they sue governments and media members and individuals who infringe on their right to protest. And they win. Remember, they were sued by the father of a Marine whose funeral they protested. The end result (that the Supreme Court upheld) was that the father owed the Church $16,000.00 for legal fees. Hacking their website does nothing. Ignoring them would bankrupt them.
USS Redskins
I chuckled at this but ignoring them is the strongest tool. This will probably only strengthen their resolve. They crave attention like this - they LOVE when there is a tragedy so they can open up their stupid mouths and make trouble and get people to respond to them. Thats when they get the most contributions, I am sure. As a free society, they are allowed to say what they want. The rest of us should put them on ignore and pretend they dont exist. Forehead
If Anonymous is so good at hacking, why not hack Westboro's bank account and drain it? They ought to be able to manage that if they were able to hack a secure phone call between the FBI and Scotland Yard. Seems like it would have more of an effect than changing their screensavers. KDawg
vigilantes are never a good answer, in my opinion. You must not like Batman then!
Mr. Sinister
You must not like Batman then! But he's more more than just a vigilante. He is a symbol of hope, and justice.... Incorruptible, in a world full of corruption. You can always count on the Batman to do what is right...

talk show host
nothing but a short term hassle since the bank would have to replace the funds Anonymous seems more concerned with harming the reputations of bad people by playing "pranks" on them.... stealing money would be another entirely and make the government work harder to shut them down. They walk a very fine line with what htey do. All of their actions are technically illegal/unethical, but they have popular support because, generally, what they do is make people smile as they screw over bad people. twa
It would be hard to have a worse rep w/o doing a crime than Westboro

Yeah I don't think that would work, the bank would be on the hook for the phoney transaction and those involved would risk jail time. A easier way would be to plant child porn on one of their big wig's computer, then notify the authorities.
Stadium-Armory
Obviously vigilante justice can't be tolerated even if you agree with what they're doing. Maybe next time you'll be on the wrong end, and be wishing for some due process.
Dallsux
Ok, please forgive my ignorance on the subject, but can someone please explain to me what it is that WBC does when they picket a funeral? What are they picketing? And aside from the attention whoring, what purpose does it serve? What could possibly be gained by protesting the murders of 20 children?

They're a family of lawyers, and It's how they make money. WBC taunts people when they're at their weakest, try to get them to retaliate, then file lawsuits when they do. WBC taunts people when they're at their weakest, try to get them to retaliate, then file lawsuits when they do. Ok, I get that part. What exactly are the protesting tho? I mean, they intended on picketing the funeral of these children. Picketing usually indicates they have pcket signs. What are they putting on those signs? I'm sure I'm missing the bigger picture here by being focused on the tiny details, but it doesn't seem to be adventageous for anyone to have picket signs that read, "God hates children". And I'd like to add that as a Christian, it is heartbreaking to see people claim Christianity as their professed religion & then betray everything Christianity is about. It angers me, actually. "Christians" who spout Scripture & hate in the same breath know nothing of the God I serve. If God hated anyone, then John 3:16 (the most famous verse in the Bible) would mean absolutely nothing. skinsfan1993
anonymous doesn't hack... all they do is run DDoS to overrun servers so they cant be accessed for a while. most of them are autistic neckbeards in their mom's basement who think they're doing good in the world. nearly every "op" they do ends in failure. I know they try to do the right thing, but something about them rubs me the wrong way. they're most often more annoying than helpful IMO. and they ware those stupid guy fawkes masks. are they suppose to intimidate people or what? Ellis
These knuckleheads are protesting in Annapolis, MD as I type this. There's only a dozen or so of them in front of the Courthouse. Across the street is the counter-protesters, circling the church. Pic below... Note from Mayor Cohen So proud of our community today! I have mixed feelings about adding to the spectacle and attention that surrounds this sad group of "protestors." But it is important that when hate rears its head here in our town, we need show clearly that we will not stand for it.The counter-demonstration was a beautiful affirmation that Annapolis is an accepting and loving community. I loved walking up to Church Circle and hearing Christmas carols in the air, and then realizing that what I was hearing was the voices of the 250+ counter-demonstrators raised together in song. I did not take any pictures of the "protestors." Instead, here is a panoramic shot of the assembled group at St. Anne's.
