Potato Sack
Ok...ESPN forced Rush's resignation. Do they HAVE to continue the torture with these commentaries? I mean, COME ONE! Let it go already!

I'm all for a few quick blurbs about it on the show. But I can guarantee 75% of the viewers grabbed their remotes to find another pre-game show when they started their monologues. BTW ... I really don't feel they were racist remarks.
Prosperity
Well they can't just pretend it did not happen that would be very artificial BTW ... No they were not AS racist as some think but they were WRONG and he was taking pot shots at the "Liberal Media" and should have kept that propaganda on his show and kept it out of the football talk. Om
Sitting there watching the intro, I just KNEW I'd find a thread or three complaining about it. Gentlemen, those guys were in an absolute no-win situation. If they ignored the matter entirely, they'd get killed for being chicken-****s and dodging it ... if they just mentioned it in passing, they'd get killed for trying to just slide by ... and if they did exactly what they did, they'd get killed for perpetuating the thing and being self-serving. They did fine. Time to let it go.
RDSKNfaithfull
Perfect example of the media brainwashing. Tom Jacksons comments were so instigated by the media its not even funny. Next time somebody makes comment on Jason Sehorn being overrated for being white I want everybody on the show to breakdown like that and look like senitive babies. I don't think anyone's "pretending" it didn't happen. Hell, do you pick up a newspaper? Do you watch ANY newscast at all? I want to hear about FOOTBALL! I don't want to watch a close up of Jackson breaking down what's racial and what's NOT racial in his opinion. Please!
PediGator
You think people changed the channel because they addressed the issue? Think again. Methinks you wouldn't have started a thread about the show if they had started with commentary on the Chiefs/Broncos game. They did as well as they could with a difficult situation. Potato Sack
Um, Om, you're wrong. Sorry. When it comes to ratings, they killed themselves with those commentaries. Our lives have been absolutely SATURATED with this event the past week. Why do I have to listen to those comments? I think they were over-the-top and unnecessary. Make a couple of blurbs at the beginning and then let's talk football. Bad idea imho.

The Sir
I thought they were neccessary and sincere and definately worth the time used on it. I know I watched that more closely than any of the segments theyve had since.
matty dread
Was it a little dragged out? Perhaps, but after a week of silence the Countdown crew deserved the chance to respond. I thought the commentaries were heartfelt and genuine. The Countdown crew deserved to have the last word on this. The bottom line is it's over, so let's move on. When was the first time someone said Jason Sehorn was overrated because he was white on air? Its true, but I dont remember hearing it, im sure its been thought. Thats one where you cant deny it, I dont know how many times I saw segments about how he was the only starting white cornerback. Or when he went to DB meetings and was the only white on there. All that coverage due to his race and not his ability, Im sure it contributed to his inflated status as an NFL player. He's not even very good at all, and I still dont know why the Rams tried to move him to safety. He cant tackle at all.

codeorama
I thought Jackson's comments about Rush bringing his social commentary into a football environment was dead on. Today was the first time all year I tuned in to the show. I don't think what Rush said was racist, I do think that McNabb is overrated, I don't think there is a media conspiracy to prop up black qb's. I think Rush brought his political issues to a football show and he got called on it. I'm glad he's off the show, now, someone needs to target Irving and I may watch on a regular basis. And everyone who normally watches Game Day watched it. And now we're talking about it because after you watched it you started a thread about it. Be outraged, if you must. Me, I could care less whether how they handled it met with your expectations or standards. Or how it affected the ratings. For chrissakes, bro ... they DID "make a couple of blurbs at the beginning and then talk football." Why not follow your own advice?

They never caught half the heat Limabauh has. Does anyone consider Isaha a racist because he said Larry Bird is only special because he is white?????? Johnny West
Did anyone catch interview last week with the front four of the Panthers? [actually they had the front 6. they added two subs on the DL] Andrea Kramer, I believe her name is, who is also a black reporter, and 5 black football players and one white guy. The reporter goes thru the five black football players like normal. Asking them question like she's paid to do. Well, when she finally made it to the white guy, she asked, "So, what do you bring to the table beside being the white guy"? How come noone made a big deal out that? Is that not a case racism? Of course everyone just laughed it off like it was a joke. Which I'm sure it was. But imagine what would have happened if the roles were reversed. Thats the only problem that I have with all of this. Double standards make sick.....
Tom [Giants fan]
I think Tom Jackson needed to comment about it because a lot of people came down hard on him all week. I heard he almost quit because of it. Now that it is off their chest, let's get back too football. Speaking of football, I'm off to the sports bar. LET'S GO GIANTS!!!!! Double standards make sick..... Double standards make me sick. It doesn't change my personal opinion of the Rush thing, but in my opinion, when things like that are said against white people, the media and or person who said it should be blasted in the same way. When someone says something like "Jason Sehorn was overrated because he was white", someone needs to speak up and say that white people have had enough of that too. Take the color out of all the comments. When it's taboo to say something about one particular race but ok for the others, tensions are going to eventually boil over, or worse, more people will become racists because they will see the double standard and get sick of it. The Diesel
If Tom Jackson really almost quit over this....then he's more pathetic than I realized. If they were going to hash this out they should have let Limbuagh on the show for a few minutes to defend himself. Instead they wanted to slam him without having to look him in the eye. I'm just really disappointed in the whole crew. They could have handled this a lot better. After a week for everthing to settle down, I expected more rational comments than what were given. The Diesel
And by "let him on" above I don't mean after he'd announced his resignation. I mean they should have agreed to his suggestion that he come on this Sunday and they hash it out during a segment. Instead they told Limbaugh that they weren't comfortable bringing the controversy to the show and would just rather him not be on it. Then they spend 5 minutes or so discussing it anyway and taking cheap shots at the guy. It was really pretty dispicable if you ask me. I have no repsect for those guys, the show, or ESPN right now. The Diesel
Coderama.... Jason Sehorn WAS overrated because he is WHITE. Why should I or any other white person speak up and say we've had enough. It's the truth. This is the problem I have with the whole situation at large. You can't speak the truth if it's considered "taboo". I don't know if Donovan McNabb is overrated strictly b/c he's black. In fact I doubt that's the only reason. But he is vastly overrated and at least a smidgeon of that is probably b/c he's a black QB and a lot of people (myself included) want to see black's occupying not just the quarterback position, but ALL positions were they have been grossly under-represented/ discriminated against in the past in American society. Double standards make sick..... Theres a difference between, "He's overrated because he's black" and making a joke to someone in a segment that was obviously rehearsed beforehand. She said "what are you in this group, other than the white guy," which is a factual statement seeing as how he was the only white guy. Was saying Donovan McNabb is overrated because of his race a factual statement? What does her comment do to hurt anyone? Shane Burton surely didn't care. This could have been a similar situation, considering a white Dlineman is a minority just as a black QB is, but she didnt do anything to suggest his hard work to get were he was is creditied more than it should be. She just made an innocent joke and everyone but yourself recognized that. Double standards make me sick as well, this was in no way a double standard.
