Previews of Coming Attractions: Upcoming New Movies (Thoughts and Info on Movies That Don't Have Their Own Thread Yet).

Previews for Enders Game look pretty interesting, that's based on a book right? Haven't heard much about it anybody read it? Something I should pick up?

I seriously recommend the book.

Now, the book has a really big, surprise ending. Reading it before you see the movie might ruin the movie's surprise. But then, I think the movie trailers might be giving away the surprise ending, anyway.

(Is that confusing enough, yet?)

Yeah, I think I'd recommend reading the book, before movie. (Partially because I really respect the book, and I'm not sure the movie will live up to it. I know that the movie took at least some shortcuts. For reasons that were necessary, and might not have hurt much. But I KNOW that the book "works".)

I hate it and can never believe it when they give up too much in trailers. It doesn't matter how easy the movie may be to predict, I hate seeing those certain kinds of major plot-turn scenes that you don't want to see before you even enter the theater.

Haven't read the book, everyone seems to rate it well, but I think the movie looks lame so far, even just viewing the guy playing Ender and seeing Ford's clips. But I will keep my fingers crossed. Thor can't get here soon enough---haven't been impressed with the movies the last couple months, but hope to see The Counselor later tonight and that looks like a good one.

I hate it and can never believe it when they give up too much in trailers.

I remember once watching an episode of Siskel and Ebert, where they were reviewing several of the movies that were going to be coming out next summer. But, they weren't reviewing the movies. (They hadn't seen them, yet.) They were reviewing the trailers for the movies.

And one of the things that they complained about, which they blamed on the huge costs of stunts and special effects, was how much of the movie they showed, in the trailers.

Their explanation was that the producer of the film might wind up spending 1/10 of his movie's total budget on a stunt that may last five seconds. This five second stunt may cost 10 million dollars, because he wants it to be bigger and louder and more spectacular that the biggest stunt of last year.

And, when they spend all that money on that stunt, well, then, they have to put it in the trailer.

Which means that, if you've seen the trailer, then you've already seen the three biggest scenes in the movie, before you even buy your ticket.

One of the trailers they reviewed was for Beverley Hills Cop 2. They pointed out that half of the trailer was car chases and crashes and stunts. Well, that's pretty much the movie. Nobody's going to go see that movie for the plot, they want stunts and destruction. And they've already seen it.

One of them proposed that the trailer they think they should have made, was Eddie Murphey, sitting in a chair, in an empty room.

"You know, three years ago, I made this movie, Beverley Hills Cop. Had a lot of fun, did a bunch of stunts, made a pile of money.

"Now, I'm making this new movie, Beverley Hills Cop 2. We're doing a lot of stunts, I'm having a lot of fun.

"Will it be as good as the first one? Well, that's hard to say. Obviously, I haven't even seen it, myself, yet. It's not finished. So it's really hard to tell, for sure.

"But, one thing I do know.

"I'm gonna make a pile of money."

(Cut to credits, with "the Eddie Murphy laugh" in the background.)

This trailer, they say, announces the movie.  It really tells you everything you need to know about the movie.  (It's Beverley Hills Cop 2, and Eddie Murphy is in it.)  And yet, it gives away absolutely nothing about the movie.

They were discussing their favorite trailers.  One which they mentioned was the trailer for a Hitch**** movie.  The movie features a bunch of guests at a hotel, waking up and discovering that a murder took place, overnight.

The trailer for this movie, was the murder.  Hitchkock filmed the murder (without showing the killer)  Knowing that it wouldn;t be in the movie.  Just the trailer.

I thought of this complaint, when I saw Casino Royalle.  As soon as Bond chases somebody into a construction site, I knew that they were gonna wind up climbing the construction cranes, and that Bond was going to leap from one crane to another.  Because I'd seen it in the trailer.

OTOH, now that I look at trailers from this point of view, I have to say that I think the best trailer I've ever seen for a movie, was this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKtWhBtvHQU

All it tells you is "Terminator 2", and "Schwarzenegger".  (Well, it tells me that there can be more than one Terminator.)

(And, that's all it has to tell me, to make me want to go see the movie.)

I remember once.....

I agree with everything you said. It's gotten really bad. The Dark Knight Rises gave away the entire plot. You knew Bruce had become locked away from society, returns as the Batman, gets his ass kicked nearly to death by Bane and left imprisoned, escapes to lead a glorious clash of Bane's armies vs Batman and the cops in downtown Gotham. I mean it was ridiculous.

The trailer you posted above though was just a teaser which rarely show any plot. That is how it should be but to be fair, the T2 is probably the best teaser out there. Curiously, I went looking and stumbled upon the original trailer for the Godfather Part II. It inexplicably shows just about plot detail like the abortion, Roth murder, and hints at Fredo's betrayal. It even shows the end scene with an older Michael sitting outside reflecting, so maybe it isn't just something new movies are doing. Either way, it's awful. My rule of thumb is just watch the first trailer and never watch one again otherwise you will remember too much of the movie.

They’re not the usual suspects when it comes to your conventional superhero movie, but Marvel has unveiled its Guardians of the Galaxy lineup. Zoe Saldana and Chris Pratt are recognizable enough as Gamora and Peter Quill. In the middle is Bradley Cooper — or at least a raccoon named Rocket voiced by the American Hustle star. Wrestler Dave Bautista is the guy who resembles Vin Diesel, aka Drax the Destroyer, while the real Vin Diesel plays Groot, the tree-like fella on the right.

Very much looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy. Given how Groot talks, Vin Diesel is perfect for the role, lol. Pratt in a lead role for this character is also a good casting, as is Cooper as the voice of the Raccoon. This won't be an easy movie to pull off, but the cast makes me more hopeful.

Speaking of Cooper, I saw American Hustle and really don't understand the hype and awards it's getting. I was very much looking forward to the movie, the cast and story all looked great, but while the acting was great the dialogue and directing seemed messy and at times character reactions just didn't make sense. Just a weird movie, and maybe I didn't "get it" though usually I do with movies, but seems others do at least share this same criticism about it. A shame because again I was really looking forward to it.

I felt the same way. I really enjoyed the acting, especially Bale but the movie just didn't move the needle. It never seemed like it went anywhere. Something was just off about it. I wanted to love it but walked out pretty disappointed.

Loved this movie. You're right, a lot of fun. Interesting to see all the controversy it has spawned too.

On a related note, how does Keanu Reeves not only still get hired but also gets leading roles in major releases that ALL suck MIGHTILY....n/m...I still struggle sometimes accepting that Bizarro World isn't just a DC Comics fiction.

Pretty sure the last movie (going by year) I saw him in, was Street Kings. I liked it, but then again, that was almost 7 years ago. Mabe he, Nicolas Cage, and Adam Sandler collectively blackmailed someone.

I am so ready for Guardians Of The Galaxy. The trailer is exactly what it needs to be to promote a brand new franchise that has only small recognition, even among comic fandom. It should be a lot of fun. And I know the trailer was released on Kimmel's channel that has like 3 million subscribers, but it has close to 4.2 million views in just over 18 hours...that's pretty exciting.

But first, The Winter Soldier. OMG NERDGASM. I will be out of my mind the first week of April. And what's most awesome - there are already a thousand great gifs from the trailers lol.

Kind of disappointed by the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer.

I assumed the movie was going to be about the original comic series.

I also think it looks a bit too silly but not really funny, like they're trying too hard with the humor.
