redman
. . . than we've learned over the last four. Here are our next four games: @ Philly vs. Tampa Bay @ Buffalo (Bye) @ Dallas What we've learned so far is that we're a good, tough, exciting, energtic, talented, athletic young, confident, competitive team. We've also learned that we're inconsistent, and obviously imperfect team that is seemingly struggling as much to find ways to beat ourselves as we are to find how to use our considerable talent. We're the NFL version of a teenager. We're awfully good looking and we have the girls' attention, but we're shy, our voice still cracks and we're a bit gangly still. We so far have beaten the three worst teams we've faced, particularly when you consider the injuries they've suffered. The one team that has a legit claim this year to its division title, the Giants, we lost to. While it's encouraging to be 3-1 and to have beaten three teams we "should" beat, and to have the difference between our wins be that much from our loss (the Giants didn't blow us out), we're not yet ready to beat a team that's playing excellent football. The Chiefs would kick our asses right now, as would teams like the Vikings or the Titans. None of our opponents have played at that level, including the Giants. We're heading back into a Philly team - in Philly - that looked like the team that's gotten to the championship game the last couple of years in Buffalo this week, a Tampa team that plays lights out defense and know how to run an offense to win, a tough Buffalo team (that's probably very comparable to our team) in Buffalo, and @ Dallas to play a classic under-talented, over-achieving Parcells-coached team that BTW always seems to give us headaches. Our overall record after those games should be a fair assessment of our team. If we can match our 3-1 record through the first four games, I'll be ready to say that we're truly worthy of our record. Likewise, if we go 2-2, a 5-3 record at that time would seemingly reflect our level of play. If we go 1-3 or 0-4, it will be hard to say that the 3-1 record we now have is more telling about our team than the 4-4 or 3-5 record we'd have then. In other words, I like a lot of what I've seen, but it's early. The jury's still out on us.
matty dread
The Bills aren't what they were in the first two games, Philly is still trying to find themselves, the Bucs are the Bucs but we've played well against them in the last few years with less talented teams. The Cowboys could be tough but the Skins are still a much more talented team. If we can win 3 of these 4 we'll be in good shape. Even 2-2 won't be all that bad considering how tough these teams can be.
DieselPwr44
I agree with your post there Redman. If we make it to the bye week at 5-3,I for one will be satisfied. With our schedule, that would be a welcome suprise. I can't really see this team making any real noise unless the pass rush gets better. All in all this is a work in progress.:2cents:
Brave
If we go 2-2 over the next 4 games and are sitting 5-3 heading into the 2nd half of the season you have to like our chances of making the playoffs ... and perhaps making some noise when we get there. At the same time, our inability to stop killing ourselves with penalties could very well cost us a game we should win and, ultimately, could be the difference between playing and watching come January. Muskrat
There is absolutely NO reason why the Skins can't go 3-1 over the next three games. The Eagles are a shell of their former self, the Bills aren't 'as advertised', and the Cowboys, well...we should NEVER lose to the Cowboys. I could see us beating the Bucs, but ONLY if we play a 'perfect game' (for us). Heck, if we end up 5-3 after these games, I will be happy...as one of the wins is against the Eagles and Cowboys. One thing I've noticed about the Bucs is that teams can run up the middle against them for good yardage. And Dallas can be tough because of the rivalry. I can however see us going no worse than 3-1 during the next 4 games. My feeling is that our loss(es) will come to either Tampa or Dallas if not both. TC4
The best part about the Cowboys game is that we come off a bye, while the Cowboys that same week will be coming off a trip to Tampa to play the Buccaneers.
godeatgod
I'm concerned about every game that we are going to play this year as we are not blowing out teams that we should. I expect Eagles to be favored this week.
roachman
I'm trying to stay positive but we have won three games against three bad teams. If we duplicate this effort in the future we won't win any of the next four games. Maybe we just play up to the competition. I would love to come out of the next four games with a 2-2 record. By the way, Ramsey looked hurt towards the end of the game when he threw the ball away on second down on the last posession. He was slammed to the ground several times and seemed visibly shaken (shoulder). Does anyone have an injury report yet?
Thinking Skins
I agree that we keep doing things to beat ourselves, but I think we have a good chance to beat any and all of these teams. We have a very dominant offense. Patrick Ramsey is playing like a pro bowl passer, our running game has people confuse 46 and 48, and our defense is actually stopping the run, how often have you heard that in the last few years?? I think that we're being very analytical on the Redskins. I mean, its true we make mistakes, but its a question of can a team overcome their mistakes to win the game. We've been able to do that the past 4 weeks and thats really inspired me. You all are acting like every other team in the league doesn't make mistakes. I think our offense can do enough to put any defense on crutches and our defense can stop just about any offense, especialy the ones we're playing in the upcoming weeks. The only one that I would be concerned about is Buffalo because I think they have the most accurate QB of our next few opponents. To make a long story short, all of these teams are beatable, and further, all of these teams will be beaten, BY US!!!
Larry
Granted, we've (barely) beat three rather poor teams. But, I also think we've demonstrated that we can (not necessarily will) beat any of those teams on the schedule. Still, if we're 4-3 (and healthy) at the bye, I'll take it. But you've got to acknowledge we make more than 'a few mistakes' like 'other teams'. We are VERY fortunate to be 3-1. Could easily be 1-3. The only game we out and out won (my opinion of course) was the Jets opener. We don't yet have a dominant offense. Not even close in my opinion. We have a potentially scary offense, but only when we execute, and we've pretty much been playing the one step forward, two steps back routine for the past few games. I'll agree with you insofar as coming out on the upside of these games IS a breath of fresh air. No one has been more excited about our winning tough games this year than myself. But if we continue with the mistake-prone, shoot-yourself-in-the-foot style football, we won't beat the Eagles, Giants, maybe not even the Cowboys. And we've got a tough schedule beyond the NFC East. I'm looking forward to seeing a game where we play 4 good quarters of football. Now that would be a sight to see, and I hope I get to see a few times THIS year, rather than having to wait until 2004.
