Pick6
Actually, if you are getting one, get one that has 3 different size cooking bowls. We had one that was 1 size only and it was always either too big or too small for what we wanted. We bought the one with 3 bowls and it works out perfectly for what we need for that particular meal. I found that one on Amazon. Most the reviews were 5 star. I went ahead and purchased it. It sounds like the 3 sizes are pretty nice to have. Thanks for the tip. TK
You guys that leave an unattended crockpot on all day are just asking for trouble. That's one of the dumber things I've ever read. You know what? I just glanced at your user notes. They say in there, that you're just asking for trouble when you start using every thread as the random thought thread. I didn't get that particular one that I pictured, but my wife and I purchased one with the 3 ceramic bowls and I tell you what, it was the best investment when you want to make sure the bowl is proportionate with the meal you are preparing. We love ours.

I have a rice cooker that a use at least once, so I am sure I will get a ton of use out of this.

Most of the pots are dishwasher safe.
Grizz
Best soup/stew ever! Steak Soup 3 cups of water 2 small onions chopped -I usually buy a bag of frozen chopped onion 3 celery stocks -diced 2 carrots slice 1 cup fresh Mushrooms 1 8oz can tomatoes diced 1 8oz can of Rotel 1 10 oz mixed frozen veg. ½ tsp pepper 1 tbsp of “Accent” 1 lbs ground beef 2 tbsp beef base Add latter ½ cup butter ½ cup flour Mix 1st set of ingredients, 8-10 hour low in crock pot or 3-4 hrs on high 1 hr before serving turn on high, add 2nd set of ingredients (mixed together) Serve with Croutons as a topper. This is key I usually double this mix and just put everything in a big stock pot and cook on med-low for 4 hours and then add the rue for about 1 hr
spjunkies
Definitely get one. I had corned beef, cabbage and potatoes in mine last night and I'm convinced I could sustain myself solely on this meal. Corned beef is awesome and as others have said there are many things you can cook in it. I think I'll pop this in my crock tonight so I can have it for lunch/dinner tomorrow. Thanks for the idea
mojo
In the event work gets in the way, for $12 an hour and traveling expenses, I will be willing to stand beside your crock pot for the duration of your cooking time. Think about it folks. It's a known fact that 4 out of 5 crock pot users end up coming home to this in their lifetime. Look it up...
boysetsfire
I never used one or ate from one until I started living with Ren. Those things are AWESOME. The chili is so ****ing good. I'm really interested in some pulled pork or bbq recipes people may have.

Bubble Screen
Do you turn your refrigerator off every time you leave? You guys' sarcasm meter must be broken. I was kinda joking about that. It's something my mom would say to me (even now, yes). This thread has gotten me interested in one now. Might have to pick one up.

You should move out then. ---------- Post added March-29th-2012 at 03:01 AM ---------- Back to topic, once you start using it and understanding how you can use it, you will love it. I used to love my Foreman Grill until I broke it. I just cook on the grill more now instead.

KingGibbs
Crockpots are awesome. It is the original "Set it and forget it" kitchen appliance. As others have stated, knives are not needed when cooking meats in a crockpot. I always use a crockpot(s) when cooking chili. I also cook it a day in advance and then let it sit in the fridge overnight. The flavor really soaks in this way.

pjfootballer
You're welcome (from Post #42). I'm not sure what brand we have, but our ceramic bowls are 3 different colors. Orange, Yellow and Green.
No_Pressure
Learn to make meatballs, put them in a crockpot with a bunch of sweet and sour sauce or something tangy...maybe even a traditional marinara. Come back in a number of hours and holy crap. The flavor seeps into everything, its quite awesome.

I typically buy a 3.5lb roast for it. Keep in mind, veggies are going to take up room when doing a pot roast. It will also hold a 7lb pork loin for making BBQ. The trick with BBQ though is getting the right rub. And if you really want to make it with a bit of WOW, add some hickory flavored Liquid Smoke to it. Skinsfan1311
They're so cheap that even a cheap **** like me doesn't consider it an investment. You should buy two of 'em. A round one for smaller dishes and an oblong-shaped one for larger dishes and cuts of meat.
Dictator
I actually bought myself this around christmas time. It roasts, steams, slow-cooks. Comes in very handy as I don't have to turn on the stove when I want to roast something.
