Passengers on board a JetBlue flight were forced to subdue the captain Tuesday after he began to exhibit "erratic behavior," including screaming "they're going to take us down," according to the passengers.

JetBlue Flight 191, which was headed from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport to Las Vegas, made an emergency landing in Amarillo, Texas, due to what the airline called a "medical situation."

The captain reportedly ran up and down the aisles screaming, "Say your prayers," after his co-pilot locked him out of the ****pit, the New York Post reported.

Sources identified the captain to Fox News as Clayton Osbon, a JetBlue flight standards captain from Richmond Hill, Ga. He was taken into custody when the flight landed, but it wasn't immediately clear whether he faced any charges.

Osbon had ranted about Al Qaeda and a possible bomb onboard before being subdued, passengers said. Laurie Dhue, a former Fox News anchor who was on board the flight, said she also heard the captain mention "Afghanistan" and "Israel" during his rant.

A flight attendant reportedly asked passengers to restrain the captain. Several, including a retired NYPD sergeant, came forward and pinned the man until the plane landed, the New York Post reported.

The person who restrained the pilot was interviewed on KFI AM 640 (Los Angeles) last night. He was a retired police officer who worked in the prison system, and claimed to be 6'4 320. Basically it sounds like either the other pilots kicked this guy out of the ****pit, or he had to use the bathroom. When he went to use the bathroom, they barricaded the door. The pilot was kicking on the door, and apparently some of the flight attendants got roughed up, which is when this guy stepped in and there was a struggle. After a couple minutes of struggle, he was able to get a choke hold on the pilot and basically choked him out until the pilot's knees buckled and get him on the ground. Sounds like he basically sat on top of the pilot, who was somewhat groggy... not sure if he had to choke him some more to restrain him once on the ground.

I can't wait to hear more on how the co-pilot got him out of the ****pit. Nice work passengers.

The pilot left to go the restroom.

The thing I find strange, at least from the report I heard, the pilot was perfectly fine before he went to the restroom.

No. Why would he lock him out if he were fine before he left? It has been reported that he was acting erratic before he left the ****pit to use the restroom, enough so that when he did the co-pilot locked him out:

Passengers became aware of the incident when the co-pilot, seemingly alarmed by his colleague's erratic behavior, locked him out of his own ****pit when he left to use the bathroom.

I heard that he basically had a panic attack in the ****pit. Was sweaty and just started flipping a whole bunch of switches or whatever and talking weird. So the copilot suggested he go to the bathroom and put some water on his face. That's when he locked the door and change the code to get in. He also was able to get another JetBlue pilot who was flying as a passenger into the ****pit to help him fly. The copilot is a hero.

Pilots can can carry guns on planes now. Imagine this guy had one. Scary

Clayton Osbon was the Captain of that flight. I don't know him personally but he has done business with my company since the late 80s.

I can guarantee you all that he will never fly again, not even a light sport aircraft (LSA). In all likelihood, the FAA will pull his medical and ground him for life.

In the airlines, a "soul count" means how many have died as the result of a crash. Captain Osbon was running around the cabin yelling "150 Souls on board! Full Throttle, we need to take a leap of faith!" To me, that sounds like he intended to crash the airplane.
