Dan T.
Little Rock renames airport to honor Bill and Hillary Clinton By Suzi Parker | Reuters – 8 hrs ago LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (Reuters) - Little Rock, Arkansas renamed its airport to honor two of its most famous citizens -- former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the airport commission said on Tuesday. The seven-member Little Rock Municipal Airport Commission voted unanimously to honor the Clintons, citing their numerous accomplishments. Bill Clinton, a native of Arkansas, served as governor before winning the presidency in 1992 and serving two terms. Hillary Rodham Clinton was raised in Illinois but moved to Arkansas after marrying Bill. She was elected a senator from New York State after her husband's second term finished and was appointed Secretary of State after Barack Obama won the presidency in 2008. "The Clintons continue to have a major impact on our state and our local economy, and we believe renaming our airport in their honor is a fitting way to recognize their service and their position in Arkansas and our nation's history," said Commission Chairman Jim Dailey in a news release. The Little Rock National Airport is the state's largest commercial service airport. It serves 2.2 passengers annually. The commission is currently working on a plan to make the airport international by 2020. http://news.yahoo.com/little-rock-renames-airport-honor-bill-hillary-clinton-054547964.html I post this for 3 reasons... 1.) It's an interesting news item. 2.) It is a crappily written article with a whopper of an copyediting error - it doesn't even give the new name of the airport, and it says that it is the largest commercial airport in Arkansas and "serves 2.2 persons annually." 3.) There has to be some joke potential with an airport named after Bill and Hilary. If either of those 2.2 passengers ever want to fly out of the country, they'll appreciate making the airport international by 2020.
LadySkinsFan
It's not as offensive as "renaming" National Airport "Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport." My dad was an air traffic controller who worked at National Airport and to name that place after the man who fired thousands of men and women as part of the right wing union busting exercise, which is still ongoing, is anathema. I never call it "Reagan" anything. To me it will always be just National Airport. History: http://www.mwaa.com/reagan/1277.htm President Eisenhower's plane was kept there during his administration in a half round hanger that was demolished to make way for the new terminal. That strike was illegal. They deserved to get fired.
LadySkinsFan
My dad had retired by the time of the strike. BTW, you try managing multiple planes in the sky with thousands of passengers' lives in your hands for 8 hours a day, inadequate breaks, hurried lunches/dinners, and not enough personnel in the towers to handle all the traffic and you'd strike too. Workers in unions strike to call attention to dangerous conditions and other things that need attention. It's an important tool for workers' rights. Rocky21
I thought the same thing as Dan. They didn't even give the name of the new airport. Doh! Also agree with Lady Skins Fan. I don't have a problem with them naming some podunk Arkansas airport after local folks who made good but to name a Washington area airport after a California politician - that doesn't sit too well with me. Jumbo
Almost makes me hope the Mayans are on to something. Well, take comfort in the fact that it could be worse. As flawed as he's been, one of the GOP candidates could still make it.

It was already named for a President.....same guy the city was named after. I am ALL for naming places like airports after former Presidents back in their home states. In D.C. it should be monuments for former Presidents or "Washington" by default.
