Per Adam Schefter -

Here's an interesting way to start your Sunday morning: 49ers free-agent QB Alex Smith is visiting today with the Miami Dolphins.

Yeah was about to post that....interesting. I assume this means the 49er/Manning talks are pretty serious.

Would be hilarious if the 49ers end up losing Smith to Miami and Manning signs in TEN or DEN

I think thats whats going to happen? Alex Smith has an opportunity to go to a team where he can get a 3-4 deal while in San Francisco, they might give him another deal. If i were him, Id bolt San Fran unless they give me a multiyear deal

It's about time Alex Smith did something. He should have started visiting teams days ago to force the 49ers' hand.

I would absolutely love it if he went to Miami or Cleveland only to have Manning sign in Tennessee. Kaepernick isn't ready to start. Not by a long shot. Get Harbaugh to shut the **** up.

Is it me, or is anybody else getting tired of the "race for Peyton Manning." I know he's going to go down as probably a top 5 or top 3 all time, but he's driving up the price tag for the teams pursuing him and IMO he may not make a decision until right before the draft. Thank GOD the Skins made the trade up to #2. Manning is quietly becoming the new Favre IMO.

You're not the only one. In fact, Peyton has been one of my favorite players over the years to watch play, but quite frankly, I'm ready for him to pick a damn team already and get it over with. He's starting to go into Brett Favre Diva status and I'd like for them to be able to focus on other players or teams.

Most, if not all, of the contracts we have signed the past few years have been structured in such a a way as to make it very easy to restructure. We have simply restructured a lot of those contracts and, as has been mentioned earlier, we released some people who have saved us cap.

I think two things have happened here. One, we learned a lesson of sorts, with Namdi last year. We went into this FA period determined to get a CB and we did. We probably paid too much but it's done.

Second, I think Jerry is trying to make a statement to the League and the other Owners. It doesn't matter how you try to cheat us, we are going to sign players. We robably paid too much but it's done.

I can honestly say, I don't know much about that offensive lineman you signed. Seemed like alot of money for him also (besides paying Carr who I think was a #2 CB). Who did he play with last year? (The Olineman- can't even think of his name).

Flynn signs with the Seahawks.

Nate Livings out of Cincy and Mackenzy Bernadeau from Carolina. Mackenzy's contract is not too bad. It's 11 Million over 4 years so 2.75 Million average. Livings is a bit different. He got 19.1 over 5 years so that's like 3.82 Million on average. I thought that was a little high but honestly, I don't know what the deal is with either of them. To me, they seem like JAG but Callahan is renowned as one of the very best OL Coaches in all of the NFL. If these are the guys he wants, I guess you have to trust him.

Watching NFLN, they're reporting that Smith feels like a "jilted lover" regarding the 49ers. Said "it's not about the money now." Grab your popcorn.

:munchout:

Niners may be in trouble, but they don't need much of a QB. With their defense and the weapons that they have they don't need someone like Peyton to compete. However, the QB market is pretty stark at the moment...

Too bad they are not making the playoffs. They have the worst redzone offense in the league and alex smith didn't turn over the football, they lead the league in TDs from the defense and getting turnovers. thats not happening again

Maybe not. That division will certainly be better but their defense is still very good and if they can find a serviceable QB I think they're going to contend again.

I think it's a smart move for Miami. Don't spend big money on Smith or Flynn or some other eh, so so QB. Stay in your draft slot, if Tannehill falls to you, if you really like him consider taking him, but don't reach just because. Maybe even consider trading out to pick up draft picks next year. Worse case go into the season with Moore and Garrard, little money tied up there, build up your team where you can, and then go into next year as the team with the most flexibility and assets to make a run at the top available QB's.

Cleveland on the other hand is absolutely ****ed. A) Nobody wants to play there, B) They seem to have no idea what they're doing, C) I can totally see them trading for Tebow or even reaching for Tannehill at 4. That'll placate, appease and please their dumbass* fans for awhile. Hell, half of them think all they need to do to contend is surround Colt with some real weapons. They'll go along with whatever and then in three years start over and totally not understand what just happened. Doomed to repeat. Oh Cleveland...

*Trust me, I've been spending time on Browns boards lately, they are duuuuuummbb--like a decade behind Skins fans in their understanding of how you win in the NFL. We figured out awhile ago that this is all about the QB. They don't get that yet. Think North Korea vs South Korea when it comes to electricity.

Took the words right out of my head.

Thanks for the update on the names. I have never even heard of either one and I live 10 miles from Charlotte. I take that back, I've heard a little from Bernadaeu.

He'll come crawling back now that Gerrard has signed with Miami. I mean, where else is he going to start? He could go to Cleveland as their "veteran" competition for McCoy.

I'm still astonished that the Browns went full retard on the RGlll possible trade, when they held all the cards to begin with.

It's also kind of funny when every year in the NFL is now the "Year Of The Quarterback!", and how you have to do everything in your power to get one, no matter the cost. They say this, all season, yet when we get one, you see a small segment of people (some of whom were those same exact people) claiming that we gave up too much, when we essentially gave up two 1's and a 2nd...

The Browns would've just had to pony up just their 1st rounders for this year, yet they still tried to be cheap, not realizing that they're the Cleveland Browns, and that since they've been back in the NFL, they've been absolute ****, and that the positives of making a move like that far outweigh the negatives.

I honestly would be calling for Holmgren's head right now if I were a Browns fan.

And Alex Smith needs to man up and go back to San Fran. I doubt that he'll find work anywhere else, given his history (that won't go away, after one good year)
