This is actually a hard decision for me, they are both parallels:

Similarities:

We all knew (I mean hoped) that Monk would eventually get in and that Darrell Green was a first ballot all the way. We all knew (I mean hoped) that we'd trade up to get a franchise quarterback.

The amount of time that we (at least I and a lot of ES) put into trying to tell the governing bodies (HOF Committee and the Redskins organization respectively) to believe in what we believed in.

Differences:

The most glaring one is that one is for past accomplishments that can be measured and for future hope which cannot at this point.

We knew when the HOF inductees would be announced, I don't think that many people knew this would be announced when it was.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what I was more excited for. I remember where I was for both of the announcements... Both times at work, one, watching live on TV with the sound up (I was the only one who cared in the bar), and the other I was outside smoking a cigarette checking twitter like I always do.

Instead of looking at when HOF tickets went on sale and continue working until 2AM like I did with Monk and Green, I left work early to celebrate (and possibly bought a Premier RGIII Jersey)

Now my question is, "What excited you more? The #2 pick or the #109 (28+81)?

if you're going to stick with the word excited it has to be this trade. For me the HOF inductions were more emotional, it's a recognition for past accomplishments. Excitement is about what's to come and what the future brings, hard to get truly excited about the past.

Definitely the trade. It may or may not work out, but was a bold move that I think had to be made. Ideally, it solves a lot for this franchise moving forward. For guys like Green and Monk, they did not need the HOF enshrinement to let me know how good they were.

Easy, the trade.

I don't know about you guys, but I never 'hoped' about Monk and Green, I KNEW they were going to canton.

As for rg3... well, I now have to adopt an albino orphan and forgo my seal clubbing weekends to hold my promise to the big man. I sacrificed too, dammit.

The trade. Any die-hard Redskins fan knew Green and Monk were inevitable HoF'ers. However, prior to acquiring the No. 2 pick there was a lot, and I mean A LOT of anxiety around ES and almost any fan I knew personally. When we found out, it was and explosion of excitement/relief/heavydrinking (for me at least)

Maybe its just me, maybe its the damned daylight savings crap and having to wake up earlier, but Monk and Green's HOF announcement was bigger.

Actually they are 2 different things; 1 is the ultimate prize for accomplishment and the other is the best chance at a stud QB.

The #2 pick isn't an absolute cure-all, while the HOF announcement was a huge relief; in ways, the #2 pick could be considered a huge relief, but we still haven't seen the proof in the pudding, so to speak.

I will say that the announcement and the Induction Ceremonies gave me goosebumps like never before, and beaming with pride grinning from ear to ear, so it could be being I am older and have great memories watching both players from the get-go, and some people weren't old enough to have enjoyed the glory years in person.

Either way, I am very happy for both the players and the draft pick, but I'm leaning on accomplishment over possibilities.

Did I mention I hate daylight savings time?

I said the HOF. Not for 28, but for Art Monk. I guess I'm not as optimistic as everyone else. I thought that he was going to have to die to get elected. I thought there were too many axes to grind (more like one big one). Too many people were shooting holes in his career and diminishing his accomplishments. Plus, he would not campaign for himself and the anti-Synder sentiment would prohibit the organization from fully supporting his candidacy. It turned into heartbreak after heartbreak year after year. Skin's fans verse the media. Monk bashers verse Skin's fans. The whole time he handled himself with grace and class. I was really excited when they announced it. He went in with a team mate. Skin's fans showed up in mass and were electric. I still get chills when I think about the crowd reaction....that is excitment in my book

One was about celebration and a very long overdue recognition. It was a moment to relive past glory and a time of excellence.

The other is about hope.

For me, the closer parallel might be Gibbs coming back as HC of the Redskins vs. the drafting of a franchise qb.

I really couldn't compare the two, they're at different ends of the spectrum. The trade representing birth, hope and nearly unlimited potential, the inductions representing achievements, acknowledgements and admiration!

at first I read the question and was like.....

Then I read the answers from guys that made sense out of it.

Those two going into the HOF was two-fold. Initially, I was excited/relieved when the announcement was made.....but the real emotional experience was being there for their inductions. Will never forget that atmosphere....the pure joy I felt for those two....and the loyalty showed as we turned Canton-Fawcett into Fed Ex North. Also will never forget the venom spewed from 95% of the crowd when irvin walked out in his yellow jacket. Priceless.

The RG3 announcement was completely different. A lot of it was hope - a good amount of apprehension - and a million different scenarios running through my mind at once.

Yeah I'm glad Green and Monk are going in finally, but I think I had more "excitement" or "reaction" when the move to the #2 pick was made, just because it was more unexpected. I think many of us felt Green would eventually get in, and Monk was due. It's strange that Art Monk got in, and Cris Carter still is not in the HOF. Seriously, someone needs to open an investigation over that.

The inductions were a formality IMO. We knew they would get in. RG3 is a whole brand new monster. For me definitely RG3.

This was what I was going to say. Loved 28 and 81 just as much as the next, but I knew they were getting in the HOF. In my tenure of being a Redskins fan(life) I've never seen a QB of RG3's skill set in DC.

I think it was obvious that Monk and Green were going into the HOF... it was cool that they went in together... but it was inevitable.

This #2 pick trade was one of those deals that could've gone either way, and quite frankly has gone away from the Redskins for pretty much the entire existance of the team.... so yes... far and away it was the number 2 pick.

HAIL!
