Sore throat remedies?

So I kind of destroyed my throat yelling at a sporting event last weekend. I been having a minor cough and moderate ear pain while swallowing. Throat must just be really raw I guess from yelling. I been trying all different things that I would use after games(honey, salt water, hot cocoa, etc). Any suggestions?

Last weekend and it's still bothering you? I'd say that's some kind of virus/infection that just happened to hit around the same time as the game you attended.

I scream like a banshee for 3 hours when I go to a Skins game, and have never had voice/throat issues beyond, say, Wednesday.

Take your temp and go from there.

Feel better

Thanks. I found it strange my throat being sore that long too. Given the sporting event was 4 days. I'm use to yelling for 2 hours at VCU games or 3 hours at Redskins but maybe 4 days of yelling is a little too much to ask of my throat. Right now no temperature. I found a pack of halls this morning. Right now I'm in heaven. Sore throat and ear pain from swallowing is gone right now thanks to those things.

Yeah, four days is pretty brutal. Glad you found a solution.

I'm also glad it's not strep. Both of my kids have had several bouts with strep this winter. Not fun.

Glad the Hall's helped out! I'd be a little worried about not having a temperature though. :pfft:

Maybe I should check the Mercury?;)

I was worried it was Strep originally. Worse stuff I have a encountered was pneumonia. I've had that crap twice. 3-4 different medications and it zaps you energy wise. Both times happened during the school year too which really screws you. Lucky for me my professors were understanding.

Gargle with salt water: Cup of warm water with 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir until mostly dissolved. Gargle. Repeat.

I was just about to post this. As bad as salt is for blood pressure, it sure has it's place in home remedies.. I remember applying salt to a canker sore a couple of years ago. Good times.

I warned you about those Jersey girls.

Oh. I thought it was from the ladies at the ES tailgate I attended. The sore did coincide with that timeframe. :D

I stay away from Jersey girls. They like guys that wear as much makeup as they do. Not my style.

BTW. When I offer my wife a sore throat "remedy" she declines.

OT..... but the latest research shows salt does not effect the majority of the pop's BP

The problem is I might be in the minority.

I NEVER use salt. There's enough salt in the foods we buy as it is. My wife loves salt and her blood pressure was123/80 the other day. Go figure. You might have a point.

Try sea salt and warm water, the sea salt is a natural non-iodized product and breaks down in your system better. I gargle with it to get rid of mouth sores or soar throat from yelling at kids while coaching.

I always go with a "Hot Toddy"

1 ounces Whiskey

1 ounce Honey

ounce Lemon Juice

3 ounces Water (Hot)

If you have a microwave, the easiest way to make this drink is to warm the honey and lemon juice for about half a minute and then to add hot water and the whiskey. Otherwise, we recommend that you stir the honey and lemon juice into extremely warm water, allow it to cool slightly, and add the whiskey.

I agree with that, had strep a few years ago and it feels like you're swallowing broken glass.
