its funny cuz on rotoworld they posted this exact thing, 20 minutes later they posted this

The Washington Post reports the Redskins began the "early stages" of their pitch to free agent Peyton Manning on Thursday morning.

Despite a report from ESPN 980 Washington that Manning doesn't want to play for the Redskins, the team is "determined to make a strong effort" to sign the quarterback. Sources also tell the Post that Manning's contract was structured to give him the advantage of negotiating a new deal before quarterback-needy teams find other solutions in free agency. Expect a signing by early next week, as FOX Sports' Jay Glazer points out, interested teams want Manning's help in recruiting free agents.

One team official who has contacted the player rep for Peyton Manning got the "definite impression" that the Dolphins, Broncos, and Redskins are the front-runners for the quarterback, according to CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman.

The same official believes Manning has already narrowed his list despite public comments to the contrary. Additionally, the official gets the sense that Manning is open to playing in the NFC, even in the East, contrary to previous reports. We would take this report with a grain of salt. Manning's agent isn't going to show his full hand when he can play interested team against each other.

its all crap till he signs.

Daniel Snyder might want Peyton Manning, but that doesn't mean he can have him.

[/url]

So it wasn't Shanahan, that MOST REPORTS say wanted him it's Synder? I haven't heard any comment by Snyder I guess you did Obvious cheap shot of the past.

We need to take everything the media members say about Snyder with a grain of salt. They never change the script they have written for a given team unless there's a change in terms of wins and losses. Why? Because they're lazy.

Since Snyder has back off we've become a much younger team, we have a front office making sensible decisions, and have a coach committed to developing young talent. What we don't have yet, is more wins to show for it. Until that happens, the "$nyder" theme will continue in the media even though there's been no evidence for it in the last several years.

^^This.

As long as Snyder has a high profile coach and a crappy team they'll keep reporting this story.

The cold weather? I guess that rules out everybody except Miami and Arizona. DC is pretty warm.

I'm happy. He seems to be a control freak and probably impatient with change. In Miami thy will kiss his ass, which is obviously what the guy wants. He's no warrior like Brady or Roth.

Well, I can't say I'm THAT disappointed. Just because Manning built a dynasty in Indy doesn't mean he'd build it here. Bringing him in two years ago would have made sense, but bringing in a veteran now doesn't fit with what the team has been doing the past two years, especially when that veteran will demand a huge contract.

I think it's funny how suddenly, no one is saying anything about his health. Even Clayton says the Skins are still in the mix 'because of Snyder's money'. "Even though EVERYTHING ELSE says he's not going to Washington, you have to keep them in the mix because of Dan Snyder." while showing a montage of Snyder pictures and not one of Shannahan. lol COME ON.

But yea, they're not saying anything about his health, it's weird. Like, tra la la, ok whatever he'll play I guess. 2 weeks ago it was the deal breaker for everyone, now, suddenly the only thing that matters is how much Dan Snyder wants him.

Manning is a great QB, and if healthy would improve our team short term, but I'm glad that he doesn't want to come here.

I must admit that this is the first year, that I just don't know what I want us to do. I think that signing Manning would be the wrong move. I just don't know what the right move should be.

I think he will go to Arizona. Arizona would give him his best chance to get back to the playoffs and make a run. They play in a weak division, he would have Larry Fitzgerald, a great running game, a good TE, and if Warner made them better then Manning should be able to do the same. Plus the dry desert heat is a bonus.

Do you have a link you can post? If not true, then nothing to see here.

Look in the JSteelz thread. Both JSteelz and TK indicate the "Peyton definitely not interested" tweets from Russell were premature.

Latest tweet (from the thread) is that we're 5th in the horse race behind MIA, AZ, KC, SEA.

Dan Snyder hasn't been "free-spending" since Albert Haynesworth. These have been the quietest two years under Snyder I can remember and yet, the media acts like he's still running the show. Until he fires Shanahan and Allen, Snyder is kicking back and eating popcorn like the rest of us. The only thing he does is sign the checks for the players Shanahan and Allen choose.
