Going into the third year of the Shanahan regime, it's time for the Redskin offense to muscle its way into being a top 10 or possibly a top five NFL offense.18 points a game will not cut it and the only way for the offense to flourish would be to add the right QB and upgrade at the wide receiver position.

Picked CB. I'd say our WR group looks better by comparison to our CBs. At least there's some depth at WR, and the same holds true for the OL.

CB? We have Josh Wilson paired with a CB who can't cover 1s or 2s, with a very dissapointing Kevin Barnes in the slot.

Considering we play in the NFC East, the land of giant WRs, a real shutdown CB is a need....preferably one that's not 5'9. With that Hall can be moved to the slot, and maybe there he won't blow coverage as much.

Maybe....but at the very least we'd have someone to contain the Dez Bryants/Hakeem Nicks types.

FS falls after CB for me. I like what I"ve seen from Gomes, but Atogwe looks like he's running on his last oft-injured fumes.

Its been worse....the front seven is in pretty good shape, and thats something I couldn't say with a straight face since about 05.

I'm not as down on our o-line as most, but upgrades would be nice. I think increased time playing (Lichtensteiger's injury, Trent's missed time) coupled with increased time in the scheme (and a full offseason - Chester) will be a big help. The big concern here is RT. At the least we need a potential starter here. In my defense, I'm going off my recollecting that our best run blocker was Lich. and that Chester did not allow a sack.. I could be sadly mistaken about this.

While Thompson might pan out, we need a starting caliber corner... Badly. I actually like Westbrook a bit (better than Barnes anyway), but we need a nickelback at minimum.

Free safety depth is a must, whereas at least we have ok depth at SS with Gomes and Doughty. I'd like an upgrade there, but it's the lesser need in the secondary.

Wide receiver would be great to have, but our current guys (I'm factoring in some growth for the young guys) are ok. There's also potential for really good production from the TEs (and Rbs to an extent). Getting a stud here would potentially make a big difference.

ILB will be a serious need at some point. I think drafting a guy in the middle rounds this year for depth (with the potential to be groomed to start) and then spending a high pick next year (if we have any) would solidify that spot.

So... Depending on how the team feels about Brown and Willie Smith, this could be the number one need. If we struggle running to the right and protecting the QB, we'll be worse off than at corner or wideout.

I think a Wr would be an upgrade, whereas a corner would fill an actual hole. Wr has more depth and more potential than corner.

RT, corner, FS depth, WR, SS, ILB depth. After this comes upgrades on the o-line (starters and depth), and depth on the d-line.

Everyone stating OL and DB's of some type are correct.

Everyone suggesting something else is wrong.

Yep. My only caveat is that a stud (A. Johnson/ C. Johnson type) would improve this team more than any other position outside of QB. The liklihood of finding this type of player is extremely small though. The biggest outright holes/problem areas though are exactly as you stated.

To me the problem with this poll is the role of free agency. There is no doubt we can get a good/great WR, certainly a # 1 type guy, in FA. Thus, we don't have to take one in draft, especially with Hank on the mend.

Thus, FA #1, Hank and Moss is a good set. No need to use the draft on WR.

So for me, get a CB.

I'm going with WR, because the offense needs to come alive and help out our defense by sustaining drives and actually getting in the end zone, not settling for three at the end of long drives. If we can do that, our defense will look even more improved than it did this past season, even if we don't make a single change (which we will do anyway no doubt ).

I voted for offensive tackle because i think that Brown isn't playing very well but now that I've read other posts I remembered what a mess our secondary was too. So if I could re-vote I would say depth in general because there are so many holes. I think the staff and Bruce has done a great job adding young talent all around but we need another draft like the last one before we see results. I think the QB will make everyone better so I HOPE we address that first but after that it's still kind of a mess.

If you look at everyone's mock drafts....it is amazing how few Defensive players are being considered as possible early picks....regardless of need...the rich are going to get richer in this draft if it all shakes out to form....too bad Jason Campbell didn't work out and they were set at the position

Coming to this thread late but to me it's not a difficult question.

On offense we have a need for a stud receiver and a RT. You might need to add LG to that depending on Korys health.

On defense we need a corner, possibly two and a strong safety - Landry is done here IMO. Some depth at linebacker would be nice as well.

If I had to pick just one position we could significantly upgrade I would probably go for RT. We need to keep whoever is playing QB upright and I think we will lean on the run a bit more this year as well.

Other than quarterback, it is more a plethora of needs than a specific need.

-I would really like to see us draft one of the many good tackle prospects to play RT. (Provided of course we still have some picks left to do it. ;)).

-We could also really use a stud wide-out. We have a bunch of good #2's on our team, but nobody to draw the double teams every play. I would like to see us throw some money at Marques Colston here.

-We lack an experienced center, and the interior of the line could use some depth.

-The secondary could use an injection of talent. I like Hall, Atogwe, and Wilson, but after that it is all question marks.

-We might look for some MLBs. London Fletcher is the iron man, but he is not immortal. I would like to see us bring in somebody we can develop into his successor.

I think a lot picking CB would be very pleased with the results we could get by putting a competent safety back there. We've got good corners, and they have next to no backup.

Unfortunately, we still don't have any answers there. Landry Is nothing but a pile of question marks..

Can he play?

If he plays, can he be disciplined?

Will he play like he did for half of 2009, or will he play like he has the rest of his career?

Frankly, I think the answers to those questions are no, no, and no.

And watching Reed "I'd be late covering my own funeral" Doughty get beaten by any receiver who steps on a field is painful, to say the least.

Give us a safety upgrade, and the whole secondary gets better.

I would like to believe that every player we draft could be a star. But I don't believe in protecting anyone.

Skins' fans get weirdly protective. I say' date=' "We need a legit threat at WR. We should make a big run at Bowe" and five people say, "Hankerson could be a #1 guy some day."

I say, "Great. When he turns into that guy, we roll out Hankerson and Bowe and suddenly we are the Packers." But there is this perception that we should just give spots to dudes. And that's why we suck.

Do you think Belichik or Tomlin or Coughlin or any of the successful coaches think anyone on their teams deserve protection? If Ryan Mallett turns into Aaron Rodgers in the next two years, Belichik will dropkick Tom Brady to someone in the NFC for a #1 pick. You know he will. But - for whatever reason - we need to protect Hankerson.

I don't get why we get sentimental about players on a bad team. I would cut the entire roster and bring in 53 free agents tomorrow if it could work under the cap and guarantee a playoff spot. I have no affection for any of these ****ers outside of maybe Kerrigan - because "Hey...big white dude!"[/quote'] I understand where you're coming from, and I agree that players should not get protected. However, I believe we have a possible future star at wide receiver on the team, whereas I do not see a possible future star for our defensive backfield on the team. That's why I feel it is more important to look at corner back and safety in the draft before wide receiver. Maybe I wasn't clear earlier on what I was trying to say.

Completely cosign this post. Jammal Brown is always injured and isn't that good. I believe we signed him to a 5 year contract which is unfortunate. Didn't we also give away a 3rd rounder for him? Ugh. I think we've ignored the OL forever so it's time to focus on that.

You'd think with John Wilson and DeAngelo Hall we'd be better at CB...but we're not. I just don't trust Hall anymore to be that lockdown guy. And I agree Landry is done here we're gonna need a safety. LB depth would be great as well.

RT/general o-line depth

CB/SS

LB

*edit* Oh and yes WR of course. I keep seeing people say Hankerson. Is it guaranteed that he is going to come back 100%? Because that is a really tough hip injury he sustained.

I picked Safety.

We need a healthy playmaking safety in our secondary, they make the CBs look better, can cover RB/TE, and make tackles.

..Dreaming of Sean Taylor back there....

I agree that a QB can make our WR look better. Our OL looked really good at times last year, Leaps and Bounds better than the year before, so maybe they will gel more and more being healthy. Hopefully no matter what we get our run game going and keep it going. that makes both sides of the ball look soo much better.

We need depth at WR.

If this is sarcasm, then forgive me... But I think our problem at Wr is that we have a ton of depth (#2/3 types) but no real #1. Hankerston may fill this role, but relying on him to is not playing the odds.

Can't remember which one, but I saw an article (from a trusted source) that had our line rated the 6th worst. At the minimum we need better tackle play. Continuity and health might cause the line to improve, but I'm not sure just how much.
