Why isn't the Lambeau Leap a 15 yard penalty?

In that case, spiking the ball is using the field as a "prop" lol...I think they look at dunking the ball on/over the goal post as a form of spiking the ball, which is of course allowed.

Basically, I get the feeling that any form of celebration that is either taunting or overly self-aggrandizing will get the flag, because that's what the league is wanting to cut down on...

Oh I know the reasoning, I was just being sarcastic at their rules. They could technically enforce the crossbar as using a prop if they wanted to.

It would be interesting to enforce the 15-yard penalty on the extra point itself. Make it a 35-yard kick instead of a 20-yard one. See if that helps cut back on the knuckleheads.

I personally HATE the rules lol...think it's rather stupid and open to a little too much interpretation. I loved Stallworth dusting off Helu's shoes after his long TD catch-and-run :ols:...we need more of that, imo.

:ols:...True, but I think the opposing team would rather get an extra 15 yard cushion on the next drive (unless the kicker is still belting the kickoff out of the end zone, that is)...

Here's a question for everyone:

Watch this video...

http://www.nfl.com/videos/washington-redskins/09000d5d8244ae67/QB-Grossman-to-WR-Gaffney-16-yd-pass-TD

Should the Skins have been called for an excessive celebration penalty here? Not because of what Gaffney did, but because of what Rex and Jamaal Brown do about halfway through the video? Wouldn't that be a coordinated celebration involving 2 or more players? lol...

Califan, that's the essence of it; it's all about sportsmanship. The Lambeau Leap is no different than extensive celebrations on the sideline (i.e., it's not on the field of play). Climbing onto a camera stand is beyond that completely, and is, in fact, interpreted as taunting and exhibiting unsportsmanlike behavior. These players need to act like they've actually scored a touchdown before. The excessive showboating really demonstrates poor sportsmanship. I hate the fact that kids are watching these games and have to see these ridiculous dances and other gestures after scores. Don't get me wrong.....I'm all for fun and enjoying the game. After all, it remains a two-part enterprise --- competition among teams/players and entertainment for those who are watching. It's no more, and no less. I don't think that enforcing the excessive celebration penalties does anything to take away from the entertainment element of the game.

As far as dunking the ball on the goalpost, it is, by rule, considered the same as spiking the ball after a score or spinning the ball on the turf after a first down. I think the dunking will eventually prove self-regulating. Once a player lands and seriously injures an ankle, others will take note and govern themselves accordingly.

I think VD's jumping on the camera stand added an element of taunting that jumping into the stands or dunking on the goal post does not.

NFL needs a new commissioner.
 This has nothing to do with who the commissioner is. I don't understand why so many people want to dump so much on Roger Goodell, and most of it isn't what he is in control of. There are many committees, each made up of members consisting of former players, coaches, officials, and current owners. Each committee is tasked with designing and modifying rules and standards as is dictated by the owners in their owners meetings. The commissioner works for those owners as well, and adheres to the decisions/rulings of those committees.
