Different Outcome had the 2-point conversion been missed?

Once Ramsey had to scramble back & forth, I really thought the 2-point attempt was over, but I was confident that we would get the ball back with plenty of time to score in some fashion again. Well it all played out that way except it was a field goal to tie the game rather then winning it.

Watching the offense on the final drive of the game, I really thought had they been FORCED to score SEVEN, they could have, however they knew it was better to tie the game then not taking a chance on a chipshot field goal.

I still wonder though, had it been 21-16, and had the Skins been forced to score a TD, could they have pulled it off.....I guess this whole throught process is pretty moot since that isn't what happened, but the Giants D just looked so darn tired on that last drive.

Spurrier admitted as much as blowing it when they got down to the 20 yard line on the final drive. Maybe instead of going for the kill shot it would have been nice to run either Betts or Candidate up the middle or maybe a toss/sweep to the outside.

Ramsey also took a pretty bad sack there and probably should have gotten rid of the ball instead of holding on to the ball to make a play.

I think SOS played it like most NFL coaches would have played it - smart and a little conservative. Play for the tie at home. IF PR fumbles or throws a pick and the gints win in regulation - SOS gets pilloried by the fans and media. Sometimes you do the smart thing and it doesn't work out any way.

The Skins d had shut down the gints for the whole second half and the o was moving at will. Somehow into OT momentum shifted. The gints dug deep and made a few plays when by all accounts one would have expected them to give up. The Skins d suddenly disappeared after just dominating for the second half. The gints made a ton of plays on the OT drive and the Skins really none. Going into OT I doubt many betting men would have said the gints were the favorites to win. And frankly on the OT drive the gints didn't really make any spectacular plays - it was possibly their most consistent, straightforward, businesslike drive of the game. The Skins were misalligned on several plays ( no coverage on wr's) didn't tackle (Barber run), freelanced or blew coverage (dump in the flat to the fb for 30+ yards).

LaVar has already admitted that he gambled and lost, when he left Finn uncovered for that 30 yard reception.

Oh well, you can go back and say WHAT IF a zillion times, but the game is over. So why beat our brains out second-guessing.

The game the Giants lost to the Cowboys on MNF was a heart breaker too.

I think we have to move on now. :)

It is funny someone brought this up. When I was watching the game and the Skins were going for the two point conversion, I was hoping he made it. I was worried about this exact thing. I figured since the Skins were home, they were less likely to try to risk going for the win and would settle for the FG and take it to overtime. It worried me that they would be down by more than 3 and would need a TD to win the way they were moving the ball.

that is an interesting question. i never even thought about it. at the time i was just elated we got it so that we'd have a better chance of tying up the game.

in hindsight i definitely agree that we probably would have had a better chance to score a TD if he HAD to. not saying we WOULD have but i think with first and 10 at the 19 and PLENTY of time, we had a good shot.

funny how things work out sometimes.

I dont think so. If we were down by 5, I dont think the Giants would have attempted a pass. They would have run the ball and taken it to the 2 minute warning. then run again and take it down to 1.20 or thereabouts before punting. I dont think we would have gotten down that clse.

When they didn't get the 1rst down, I knew if we lost in overtime, that was the main reason why. 2nd settling for FG on the opening drive in like fashion. 3rd, the 3&29 penalties. 4rth, the FG that hit the Goal post. God, looking back on it, it seems like it just wasn't meant to be.

Maybe the coin toss, the only thing that went the Giants way in the 2nd half.

I think it happened before the coin toss. Fassell gathered his team around him and made a speech. Obviously, we did not hear that speech, but you can bet he lit a fire under them.
