Per Schefter: Raiders fire Hue Jackson

They do have a lot of young talent. I am envious of their WR corps, actually.

But they have old talent in key spots. Their DTs are the strength of the defense, and that's three older guys. Palmer at QB. Cooper Carlisle is one of their best OL. Even that great kicking game is two old guys. And then you have Darren McFadden, who is obviously nowhere near old, but has so much trouble staying healthy that he might as well be.

Well, kickers it doesn't really matter what your age is, so that's a non-issue. Agree that DT is old, but they did draft Pryor at QB. At guard they did draft a couple of young guys in Campbell and Wisniewski, so there is some young talent back there.

And yes, McFadden can't seem to stay healthy, which is why it is good they have Bush.

Yes, they have Pryor. I don't know why anyone would consider that a positive, but they do have him. And Bush is a FA who also has a lot of wear and tear on him.

What's so shocking. Actually, long run this is the best thing to happen to the Raiders.

Al Davis's son is going to run the Raiders franchises like most modern teams does. He started that by getting a GM. The GM is now in charge is now cleaning house of all the deadweight. Hue Jackson was part of that dead weight. He will get him the coach he wants and they will build the Raiders the right way. It will be interesting to see what the next coach does with the QB position.

Dunno about Fassel. I was hearing over the weekend that the Raiders could possibly pursue that Winston Moss dude that works with GB

Moss is interesting, in that I keep hearing him mentioned as some kind of future head coach prospect, but he's not only not a coordinator, he'snot even the coach of the whole LB corps. Though he does have the bogus "Asst Head Coach" tag.

Wow i'm shocked!!! didn't see this coming at all.. Bad move IMO.. He had that young team motivated and playing well. Oh well.....

I saw it coming when he blamed everyone else in that last game press conference. Some amazing revision by him.

They also hired a new GM so this was def possible

they are talking about Winston Moss from Green Bay's staff. Wouldnt be a bad hire.

It'll be a GB guy. It just depends on who.

Winner winner.

Green Bay assistants such as Winston Moss -- a former Raiders linebacker, as is McKenzie -- could become a candidate. Another Packers assistant, offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, would be a logical candidate as well. However, his availability is in question following the recent death of his son.

For good measure:

A league source told NFL.com's Steve Wyche that Packers secondary coach Darren Perry likely would be hired as the defensive coordinator if Moss is hired, as expected.

Hue certainly didn't do himself any favors on his way out ...

When reached by CSNBayArea.com, an angry Jackson said, "(New Raiders general manager McKenzie) is going to gut this place."

"He wants to bring in his own guys. No job is safe right now," Jackson told the website.

What in the hell is wrong with that team? Who would actually want to coach there?
I'm sure someone was saying the same thing when Zorn was fired. I see nothing wrong with the Raiders have done. They're starting over from scratch and Jackson is not in the future plans according from the new GM Reggie McKenzie. I'm sure you all would of had a fit if Allen kept Zorn here.

No way, that can't be serious. :ols:

Yep, they traded their 1st rounder for Carson Palmer. Their 2nd rounder to the Patriots for their 2011 3rd and 4th rounder. They traded their 3rd round pick in the supplemental draft for Pryor. Their 4th round pick belongs to us because of Jason Campbell. Their 7th round pick was traded to the Seahawks for Aaron Curry.
