Justin Blackmon (Says Reading the Rules Always Helps)

If I were in charge, I will have two ways of approaching the off-season.

Option A: Draft Luck or RG3 in the first round and sign a Free Agent receiver (preferably Dwayne Bowe with Colston and V.Jackson constellation prizes)

Option B: Sign Matt Flynn and pray that Blackmon falls to us. This is the riskier option, so if Blackmon doesn't to fall to us if we signed Flynn, I would start trading back.

I am pretty sure the FO isn't thinking this way, or maybe they are, but I do hope we get us a QB and find a game changing Wide Receiver......

He smells too much of Peter Warrick to me.... he even has the 28 year old quarterback.

We don't need another 6'1" wide reciever... we need a 6'4" Alshon Jeffrey or a 6'3" Michael Floyd type.

Personally, I'd go Alshon, and then trade back into 14 with next years first and our second and one fourth to grab Tannehill.

I agree on the needing a 6'4 receiver and would be okay with grabbing Alshon if McNutt isn't there.Disagree on the other, not a fan of Tannehill

Yes, because height and being over 6'4" automatically makes you a star receiver.

Remember Anthony Mix?

No one takes Alshon at #6 overall. No one.

He will probably go late in the 1st. You trade down for that kind of pick.

Personally, I think Floyd is the man to draft. Dude is a beast.

I'm conceding Blackmon's out of the picture, so I'm more focused on the other WRs that might be available later on. I like Nick Toon in the middle rounds. He's got a decent mix of size and speed, and with his pedigree, you know he'll know how to play the position. Jordan White' and AJ Jenkins are some other ones to look for in that 2-4 range.

I still say they should've just thrown it up to Anthony Mix a couple times in the end zone. Forget about being a star receiver, can he jump straight up and catch a jump ball or fade once a game. I guess we'll never know.

Yes... but was he a top 10 pick like Calvin Johnson or Larry Fitz? We've had these little tiny guys who are wide recievers, they haven't done much for us. Quarterbacks need big men in the red zone. We need a big target that can go up and snag a fade.

Well, let me be the first to invite you to look at the mocks, where Alshon has been the number 1 rated reciever all off season and is going anywhere from 4-10 in all of the mocks I've seen.

I love Floyd and he's more of a playmaker, but he's had two DUI's at Notre Dame already. That's why his stock is falling.

FYI Blackmon also has a DUI arrest

As I see it, I think the worst case scenario for us in this draft is for the top five picks to be, in no particular order...

Luck

RGIII

Kalil

Blackmon

Claiborne

...because the next BPA is Richardson and we don't need a RB.

Any one of those above would be worth the 6th pick to us if we couldn't trade up or down.

I love the idea of grabbing another top 10 LT. Why not? You could really address our offensive line plus have better depth (With Brown becoming a backup). Then swing around in the 2nd round an pick up the Boise State QB + Flynn as a FA.

Okay... for real?

Kellen Moore has a 6th round grade on him right now. Why would you take him in the 2nd?

It has to do more with separation and route running and the ability to use your body than size. A 6'1" receiver like Blackmon can play just as big as a 6'4 receiver and be more effective. There's tons of true #1 receivers who are 6'1 and under

Can you show me those mock drafts you're looking at? I haven't seen a single one that has him that high, except a ridiculous AOL one that has him as the #1 over Luck.

2 writers at CBS Sports don't even have him in the first round: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/mock

Alshon was ejected from his bowl game for getting into a fist fight. No thanks.

Yeah, I was at the gym running on the treadmill when that happened. I didn't hear what was said but it looked more like a scuffle and the cornerback threw the punch, Alshon just pushed him. He didn't throw a punch though...

I have no problem putting my foot in my mouth here, I was going to post Walter Camp's mock draft, he updates it on walterfootball.com every week. As late as Christmas he had him in the top 10 but in his most recent mock he has him at 21.

My thing is, we don't need a Blackmon type reciever. We have guys who can run routes and catch. We have Armstrong who can get deep if he has a quarterback to throw too him. But we don't have a guy who is big to go up and get the rebound. We move the ball very well between the 20's and then we stall. A big reciever can solve that, I am not confident that Blackmon is that kind of a reciever.

If we can't trade up, I'd try and trade back and pick up Floyd. As I said earlier, he is more of a playmaker. Alshon is MUCH slower than Floyd and has less TDs. I think Floyd has 37 touchdowns in 4 years at Notre Dame. He's a beast and he's also a phenominal possession reciever.
