LuRedskins
"According to ESPN 980 Washington's Chris Russell, impending free agent Matt Flynn's six-touchdown Week 17 game "generated a lot of buzz and positive chatter" in the Redskins' organization. The Redskins might be the Packers' ideal target for a sign-and-trade scenario if Flynn is indeed franchise tagged, because Washington has a documented history of making blockbuster-type moves. They've been much more well-run since GM Bruce Allen came into the picture two years ago, however. Flynn does make sense in D.C. because of his familiarity with a West Coast-style system. LuRedskins
but if the trade falls out, they are paying their backup (most likely) more than aaron rodgers. with vick, manning, and brady all having monster salaries, he would be amazingly expensive
thecardiacrll
I bet this is just to get other NFL teams up in arms to make a move. Like Cleveland who is our biggest obstacle in the draft. You hit the nail right on the head.

Pretty sure if they franchise him they will need to get atleast 1 maybe 2 1st's. And yes that is ridiculous. Pretty sure Flynn would be making more than Rodgers if that were to happen. There is no way he's staying there and there is no way they are going to franchise him. And for the record i do not want him.

True, if Cleveland were to trade for flynn, it would be that much more unlikely they would take a QB in the first, or at least early first

moondog
Only way I would want Flynn is if he walks as a FA so that it allows us to keep all our draft picks. But the second it becomes a trade then I'd rather us just try and trade up for Griffin III. I'd rather have Griffin III anyway but this staff has shown its ability to draft impact players so I hate to see us lose picks. That being said, I firmly believe our #1 priority is Griffin III anyway. We really don't run much of what I would consider a West Coast system. Maybe more once we lost Davis and used more 3 receiver/2 back sets but we rely on the ZBS running game to set up a vertical passing game and that is a farcry from a pure WCO that uses short passes and screens to supplement or even replace the running game. I don't know why people continue to consider us a WCO.

LuRedskins
I smell smoke......... Yeah i cant imagine why we would want to trade for a backup QB, who would probably cost more than the first round pick in cap, and close in draft picks

RichmondRedskin88
I see Seattle going after Flynn.Which won't help us at all. I think Cleveland gets him. They need a new star RB in the draft. I think they work a deal which gives up a 2nd to Green Bay for Flynn. Then they take the two first rounders to get Richardson to fill the void left by Hillis. IDK, if putting that on a player and then only asking for a 2nd or whatever is possible. http://football.about.com/cs/football101/a/franchisetransi.htm I think if they signed them to a long term deal then they could take a 2nd for him. Im not 100% sure but i think thats the way it works. IMO they are stuck. They should have offered him an ext last year and then tired to move him now. But they didn't and they aren't going to pay him top $$. He's going to be a FA unless he enjoys being a backup in GB
gortiz
Patriots franchised Matt Cassel for 14mil when they were paying Brady 15mil. yeah, but they probably knew KC and pioli were going to bite and cassel lead a team to a 10-6 record and threw for what? 24 TD's? Flynn has thrown 6 career TD's.

IDK, if putting that on a player and then only asking for a 2nd or whatever is possible. Okay, here's how it REALLY works. If another team wants Flynn, WITHOUT Green Bay's permission the team can give GB their next two first round picks and grab Flynn. Green Bay can ONLY block that acquisition by giving Flynn the exact same contract as the team trying to get Flynn. HOWEVER, Green Bay can be a willing partner and trade Flynn for whatever they want. GB could trade Flynn for a 7th if they really want. Franchise Tagging a player does not require 2 1st round picks IF both teams agree to terms on a trade. This is what happened with Matt Cassel and the Patriots/Chiefs. I believe the Chiefs gave the Patriots a 2nd round pick for Cassel and Vrabel, even though Cassel was franchised. Read this article to see how the Cassel transaction went down: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3942130 The Flynn transaction will most likely be similar. He's going to be a FA unless he enjoys being a backup in GB I think there are ways around the two first round picks as compensation for a tagged player. I know for a fact the Patriots did not get two firsts for Cassell when they tagged him a few years ago. Like you said there is an option for the trading team to change the terms of the tag, somehow, so that a trade could happen.
GibbsFactor
I smell smoke......... The tea leaves clearly state that what's not being discussed is what will happen. The reader of the tea leaves even said as much. I really think those tea leaves say trade up for Luck.
greenspandan
yeah right. no team in the league is as desperate or hungry for a new franchise QB as the Redskins. we'll make a big play for RG3 if not Luck. if we're not stupid, we'll spend the next 4 months pretending that there are other interesting options open to us. my advice is don't get too invested in any of the rumor or coachspeak that involves anything other than trading up, because that's what we will try to do in the end.
