NorthEast Skin
I am able to listen to WTEM on the way home from 6 to 7 and always hear Andy Pollin and Steve Czaban. Are these guys just bringing up issues to generate a rise out of the audience, since they can't be serious? It drives me crazy that we don't have a competent radio show about the Redskins in D.C. I think Kornheiser would have one but he is national now.

jbooma
What is funny is during preseason they were all saying gloom and doom for the skins, now they are praising them
bubba9497
http://www.streamaudio.com/listen?station=WTEM_AM you can listen on the net. They do sports talk about the Redskins mainly, and have the Steve Spurrier radio call in show Mondays at 6 PM EST. Steve C is the most pessimistic person about the Redskins, and always looks to find ways of bringing them down. The anti-homer announcer. I usually only listen to Spurrier. Henry
Yes, they are idiots. They say a lot of stuff to stir the pot, but it often comes across as stuff they are saying to try and stir up the pot ... if you know what I mean.
Posse81
I actually like Pollin, but Czaban will say anything to be controversial. A good show to listen to is the morning after the game from 7-9. I think Joe Jacoby and Pollin anchor the show and Czaban only has a small segment when he calls in for about 5 minutes. Om
Hey, I listen to sports talk radio from time to time because I'm nuts about the Skins and want every scrap of Skins talk I can get, and I can't get Extreme in my car. Yet. I look at it this way: listening to this stuff keeps me sharp. I snort at the shallow, uninformed, pot-stirring stuff these talk show hosts throw out there (which they can do because people like me WILL listen no matter what and they know they don't have to do better) ... and systematically blow the tripe-du-jour they serve up out of the water, because I actually FOLLOW the team closely enough to know the difference between reporting on - or even, God forbid, analyzing - pro football and simply blowing smoke up the listeners' collective arses with no thought of accountability. Strangely, there's a certain warm and fuzzy feeling I get in being more informed than the guys on the radio. And I don't say that to puff me up, I say that to whittle them down. Not that they need my help.
TD_washingtonredskins
what OM said...i kind of take pride in listening to them flap their gums and knowing they are wrong about something. i have to admit too that i get most of that info from this site! Kornheiser
They're on the radio - of course they're idiots. I enjoy most of them anyway, just because when I was living away from my native soil - I had to listen to "Raiderfan does not joke around! Raiderfan is serious! If you think Raiderfan is not serious you will find out!" around the clock. So at least I get to listen to the local idiots, the last five years. They may be idiots, but at least they're our idiots. (oh, & I agree 100% on Czaban, he is an idiot & guilty as charged of 'stiring up the pot' on point no one really considers controversial. But I'm a sucker for the Sterling & McLean references)
Henry
Right on Om. Last week after the Falcons game, those two were talking about our dramatic comeback, and one of them wondered how far back one would have to look to find the last time we came back from 17 points or more ... without even stopping to think I said out loud "21 points against the Panthers in 99." They were already going back to the Gibbs years and whatnot, and I could only shake my head in disgust. I do like listening to the old Skins they bring on. Guys like Jake and Riggo. Riggins is definately the most entertaining, and he isn't a big homer either.
Om
Plus, yesterday he suggested that now that some TV acress won a People's Choice, she really ought to "import a couple of jucos" because she's "seriously Kansas" up top. Hey, if that ain't some seriously happenin' radio magic, I don't know what is.

redman
Kornheiser- where did you live before. I'm currently living smack in teh middle of Raiderfandom . . . and it sucks. Henry, I was wondering when the last time was that we came back from double digit deficits twice in the same year to tie the game or win it. We just did that two games in a row. Ghost of
I like Czabe. Anything to get that Women's tennis and name-dropping jackass Kornheiser off the air. I don't mind Korny on PTI or in short bursts, but his show is dull---mind-numbingly so. I also like that the Czabe and Co. show focuses on the Skins, at least during large portions of the year. SonnyJ
I like Czaban, too. Not because of his brilliant insight on the Redskins, of which he has very little, but just because he keeps me interested. I think he's a very good sports radio talk show host. He'll take a stand on something (whether he's just pot-stirring or not) and get people to listen and call in. That's his job. I certainly take whatever he says with several LARGE grains of salt, but I still find him amusing. The guy who used to be on the WTEM that I miss is Kevin Kiley. Now there is someone who could talk football. What ever happened to him? He served a couple of stints - first with "The Coach" (what became of him?), then with Chuck Booms. Booms was supposed to be the comedian of the two, but Kiley was WAY funnier.
hail2skins
I listen to as much of the Pollin/Czaban show as I can on my drive home and also think the Monday morning show (which is only a few years old) has been a good addition. However, there is room for major improvement on the show and that largely lies on the shoulders of Pollin, given he's the sports director. Andy seems like a nice guy but runs the show way too rigidly and doesn't take nearly enough callers. I'd rather hear more of what the callers have to say than to hear Pollin, Czabe, and their co-host yammer on for two hours. Also, none of the other local area sports teams besides the Redskins seem to get enough discussion time, and it seems like there are way too many commercials. hail2skins
SonnyJ, forgot to mention that the last time I heard, the "Coach" (Rich Gilgalon) had a show out of Palm Springs, California. Also, I think Kiley and Booms had a show on Fox radio for a while but don't know if they're still together.
endzone_dave
I like Czaban quite a bit. He's just pessimistic because the Skins have made him that way. He wants the Skins to win just as much as anybody else. The way he trashes women's sports is great. He's not afraid to speak his mind and say things just to get people stirred up. Pollin shouldn't even be in sports radio. The guy only want's to talk Redskins and a little bit of Wizards. That's great until you're in May and he has nothing to say. He hates baseball, golf, hockey, NASCAR. Yeah, what a sports fan.

Survived ten years on mostly Wilbon & Kornheiser articles at the local Libraries. Laughed my but off when I returned and those two small timers had broken through to celebrityhood. Raiders are kind of like the Cowboys of the AFC - team of choice for the obnoxious fan. So all the national radio shows were rampant with them. Kim Beatrice- anyone remember him. I really like that guy. (I'll even withdraw the "radio show idiot" label for him. Doc Walker too - never heard him say anything idiotic & he also steers away from shameless sensationism)
hail2skins
Kornheiser, Ken Beatrice retired from doing his "Sports Call" show a few years ago. I miss Ken too.......he had an excellent post-game analysis and took plenty of callers and was very polite. I heard him the other morning on the oldies station here but he was only on for a minute. Kornheiser
Yeah, Kim Beatrice was still on when I got back. Listened to him every chance I got when I got back. I think he still does a 10 minute analysis on monday & friday mornings at 8ish. It's on what 100.3? But I don't get a chance to catch it much. Maybe I'll try to record it or something. He was the best. Heard about Glenn Brenners death in Hawaii, they announced it during the game. Broke my heart. (off the record - Brenner blew Tony away)
