Reports soldiers killed in North Korean gunfight

The South Korean government is investigating unconfirmed intelligence reports that a gun battle, leaving between 20 and 30 soldiers dead, broke out when the North Korean regime removed army chief Ri Yong-ho from office.

The Chosun Ilbo, a South Korean daily newspaper, reported that some intelligence analysts believe Mr Ri, who has not been seen since his abrupt sacking earlier this week, was injured or killed in the confrontation.

Citing South Korean government officials, it said the gun battle erupted when vice marshal Choe Ryong Hae, director of the People's Army General Political Bureau, tried to detain Mr Ri while carrying out North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's order to sack him.

Guards protecting Mr Ri, who was a vice marshal, apparently opened fire.

North Korea to 're-examine' nuclear issue

North Korea has said it was being forced to "re-examine" its nuclear programme because of fresh signs the US remains hostile towards the country, indicating it will step up defiant efforts to boost its nuclear arsenal.

"Various circumstances compel us to completely review the nuclear issue," the North's foreign ministry said in a statement released through the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Friday.

The North said it had no choice, accusing the US and neighbouring South Korea over a plot to blow up a statue of its founding leader.

Meanwhile, North Korea's cabinet has created a so-called political bureau to take control of the economy from the military.

The move could indicate the nation's leader Kim Jong-un is preparing to make economic reforms.

The changes could herald the most significant reforms by the North in decades. Previous attempts at a more market driven economy have floundered, most recently a drastic currency revaluation in late 2009.

Yeah, about her, apparently she is his wife:

Meet Ri Sol Ju, Kim Jong Un's New Wife

In a televised report about Kim Jong Un touring an amusement park, North Korean media referred to his nearby lady friend as "wife, comrade" Ri Sol Ju, according to the Associated Press. The first couple of North Korea have already appeared at events together, but this was the first time she was actually identified.

The happy couple:

Looks like fatty's tailor isn't going to be eating for a while. His pants are like 4 inches too long and his jacket looks like it could fit him and his wife comfortably (at the same time).

Lol, no ****. What the **** is really going on with his pants? Damn. Dictators slumming these days.

Since taking power, Kim has tried to be alter the country's austere and militaristic image. At his inauguration, Jong Un proclaimed a new powerful nation in which people will be fed properly, hinting that he will focus on economic welfare.

The new leader, believed to be in his late twenties and educated in Switzerland, has ordered comparatively liberal policies such as allowing women to wear pants at public events and encouraging foreign restaurants to be opened.

He was seen earlier this year visiting a fastfood restaurant and commenting on the package design of hamburgers.

The mental image of him commenting on fast food hamburger packaging is hilarious.

Maybe the long pants are meant to symbolically convey the powerful positions they hold: they are so rich and powerful that they will always have somewhere to go that is safe from floods, unlike the poor and uncivilized ruffians they rule over. So they wear their pants very long to show their utter contempt for all things flood related.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nkorea-refuses-field-because-flag-191717141--oly.html

The North Korean women's soccer team has refused to take the field for its match against Colombia at the Olympics because of a dispute about its flag at the stadium.

Officials at Hampden Park say the team wouldn't take the field at the scheduled time. It was unclear what the dispute involved. The North Koreans still weren't on the field 30 minutes after the start time. The Colombians also didn't take the field.

The North Koreans did warm up on the field before the match.

I saw a picture on TV about the chain smoking 2 year old in Indonesia. He's grown up some and I wish I could find the picture, but he looks like an even smaller clone of Kim Jong IL as a pimp. He had these crazy sunglasses and a pimp suit on.

Ok. Is it just me, or does little Kim have the biggest head in the world? I mean, lampshade big. Olmec statue big.

kim_jong-un.jpg

It is indeed very large. The hand in relation is child-like. Paired with the latest NK fashion hairstyle, the "crouching spider", or "square-do", he begins to show signs of pumpkining that will certainly make his claim to Biggest Head in the World.

This is another one showing size in relation to the hand. He either does indeed have a massive head, or little tiny porcelain doll hands.

kim-jong-un-4.jpg

Volume, and height as well. Mr PotatoHead meets Wayne Newton.

But, for the title of Biggest Head in the World, you need to KO the champ.. so, uh,, head to head,, if you will..

I was going on this picture posted above, where his head appears to be fully double the size of anyone else in sight.

I can't believe the Olympic committee put the SK flag for NK players. :ols:

Oh lordy. Who would think that WWIII would start with such innocent beginnings. :paranoid:

Some of that is just depth of field in the photograph. But not all of it...dude really does have a large melon. He's only a little taller than his wife and his head looks almost twice as big as hers. :ols:

The Olympic committee probably needs offer a stronger apology than just "oh sorry, it won't happen again..."

Great that NK players walked off the field and back into the locker and let the officials sweat it out for a hour... I would have done it for longer... When you work so hard to get to the Olympics to represent your country like these athletes have, they (and their country) should not be disrespected like this...

Olympic committe even screwed up the quick apology they put out...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/dcunited/north-korea-womens-soccer-team-refuses-to-take-field-because-wrong-flag-displayed/2012/07/25/gJQAOawU9W_story.html

The match against Colombia was delayed for more than an hour, and organizers apologized for the error.

“Today ahead of the women’s football match at Hampden Park, the South Korean flag was shown on a big screen video package instead of the North Korean flag. Clearly that is a mistake,” organizers said. “We will apologize to the team and the National Olympic Committee and steps will be taken to ensure this does not happen again.”

The statement, however, included another gaffe: It failed to refer to the countries by their official Olympic names, causing organizers to reissue the statement using “Republic of Korea” and “Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.”
