SlinginSammy HOF '63
Living here(Illinois) all of my life I just thought this was normal all over the US until people liviing elsewhere gets alarmed. This generally starts in early December and goes on daily for a couple of months, mostly in the early AM. On my morning commute home around 6:30 AM they look like fast moving dark clouds in the distance.

SlinginSammy HOF '63
No it's not. The first time my father in law (from Sacramento, CA) saw these, and his reaction that followed told me that this was not normal everywhere.

Hitman21ST
Don't know why, but I thought stuff like that was more bat like then bird like. Why we're the birds doing that anyway? just messin around??? http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2011/11/starling-flock/ Starling flocks, it turns out, are best described with equations of “critical transitions” — systems that are poised to tip, to be almost instantly and completely transformed, like metals becoming magnetized or liquid turning to gas. Each starling in a flock is connected to every other. When a flock turns in unison, it’s a phase transition.

Yeah, you can pretty much watch some of them fly overhead and the sky will be full both ways. The group flying overhead may go nonstop for 10-15 minutes sometimes. Botched
That is nuts, you'd think there would be a ton of mid-air collisions. If only the groundbreaking aeronautical technology in our unmanned military aircraft could compete with a Starling. Equal parts amazing and creepy!!!!! thatswhatshesaid!!!
