clubisyohankovic
The skins traded down in the first round to get Ramsey, right? What extra picks did we get out of those deals, and who did we end up selecting?
redman
We got Russell and Lott. So far, so bad, but who cares with Ramsey playing like he is.
gridironmike
I think Lott could be something serviceable if he is around long enough to develop. Who knows about Russell.......he has stiffer competition with McCants, Johnson, and Jacobs. Speaking of Jacobs, he could be the wild card in our offense. I hope he is ready to play soon. thito_da_skins_fan
speaking of draft picks and so-called "wasted" picks, how many people think Betts still was a bad pick?
rdsknbill
Not me Thito. Betts is playing very well. I think that he is better than Trung. Tougher runner IMO

Betts was a great pick so far and has done well with the opportunities he’s been given. I know SS has run a lot more this season, but I which he give both of them more time and run the ball even MORE. But I guess that becomes a bit problematic when you spot teams 17-18 points. :gus:

Tougher runner IMO I'm loving the running back duo. I think that we should start with Betts, but either way, I'm decided that the coaching for our running back by committee is almost perfect. If we could keep Morton to what he did great with yesturday, returning kicks and keep him away from the running game, we'd be even better.
TLusby
I think Betts is good but can improve. He seems to turn his shoulders and actually slow down on impact instead of lowering the head and shoulder and driving guys.
freakofthesouth
Betts and Canidate are the NFL's new thunder and lightning. Even ol' Moose was saying it. The skins' running game has been wide open; each run seemed like no one was around. Everyone is afraid of the Skins' passing attack, so they respect it, and in turn, give up the ground game. Atlanta Skins Fan
Originally posted by gridironmike Speaking of Jacobs, he could be the wild card in our offense. I hope he is ready to play soon. No offense to Jacobs, whom I hope will be a great player for the Skins, but we don't need him. You can't make a case that Jacobs would have outperformed McCants or been a difference maker in the first three weeks. He does make great injury insurance, however, and also would give Spurrier some options should Spurrier want to take up Art's suggestion of benching players for boneheaded plays (such as McCants and Gardner in recent weeks). The problem on offense is not lack of Jacobs. It's confusion on offense during audibles and some questionable play in pass protection. These are system, coaching and execution issues, and they aren't coming from the WR spot.
redman
Betts and Jacobs were wise picks for the same reason. In both cases they came aboard initially to be the future replacement for players who might depart as FA's. Jacobs was also great value in the second round (Betts might have been able to be picked on round later). In Betts' case, he was drafted a year early to replace SD, who we couldn't keep under his huge contract and who didn't make much sense to resign as he didn't fit this offense well. I liked the thinking at the time, and now that we're seeing that he has skills commensurate with his draft position, I like it even more. Regarding Taylor (and McCants for that matter) I'm of the mind that Rod Gardner may depart from us either in trade or as a FA because I don't believe that he's all that much better than McCants, and yet he'll demand a large contract. Those two guys allow us to simply slide in another #2 WR who's already familiar with the system and keep right on going.

THERE ARE NO ISSUES WITH THE OFFENSE. Ramsey is the #1 QB, Coles is the #1 WR and we rate well in virtualy all offensive categorys. Betts and Canidates combigned 331 yards put the redskins behind only Baltimore and Miami in rushing yards. Pass protection was outstanding vs the Giants. Problems with the system? There are about 28 teams in the NFL that would love to have our problems on offense. It is astounding how you continue to critisize our offense in the face of these facts. Your chicken little chirpings are begining to sound comical.

We have scored 16, 33, and 21 in our games so far. Good? Yes. Signs of no problems at all? No.

There is not one single team in the NFL that does not have room for improvement. That is not the point. Ignorant is not understanding the simple fact that the system is also responsible for our success. Anyone too blind to see that needs their head examined. BG
Mikes comments couldn't be more on the money. NO ONE can't stnd to be better. WE WERE DISMAL in teh first half. Penalties or not, if we were as potent as we were in the second half, we would have had a much different game. Jacobs is a great pick up as well as Lott and Betts. Betts has proven his worth after losing Davis. Jacobs may be our guy if we lose Gardner after this season. I feel good about the decisions we have made in the FO the last few years, but there is no denying it could ALWAYS be better..........

redman
Mike, I'm no defender of ASF, but I think you and he are saying the same thing. But I'll say again, we just plain flat are going to have more of some kinds of errors such as false starts, delay penalties, "wasted" TO's, and sacks because of how much we audiblize. So far, I can live with that given the firepower this offense has. It's like a Ferrari. It's expensive and in the shop a lot, but damn it can fly! (And I've had quite enough of the Dodges we've tooled around in in recent years.)
