Trent Williams: Tests reveal no tear in knee

ligaments

By Mike Jones

Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams said that tests conducted on

his left knee indicate there are no torn ligaments, but the second-year pro

doesn’t yet know if he will miss playing time.

Williams went down in a heap

while blocking on the field goal unit during Graham Gano’s missed 52-yarder

in overtime. Williams limped off the field with the help of the

team’s trainers.

After the game, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said that head athletic trainer

Larry Hess told him that Williams’s medial collateral ligament (MCL) “didn’t

look good,” but the coach didn’t have any further details on the injury at the

time.

Monday morning, Williams had his knee wrapped, but said it was “just sore,”

and that he was relieved not to have suffered a tear.

That's fantastic news, but I'd still IR him to let him fully recover and get totally healthy for next year.

Plus it would hopefully give us a chance to look at Willie Smith out there in live action play to see what we have in him going forward.

Hail.

If Trent's healthy enough to go after a couple weeks, then he should go. You don't IR your best lineman unless you absolutely need to, if for no reason than you don't want your quarterbacks to get creamed.

I still don't get the fascination with Willie Smith. It's kind of the same thing as with Selvish Capers last year...

As Grossman and Beck won't be here next year in all probability, I'm impervious as to what punishment they receive, shrugs. I actually think we may of rushed Trent back too soon from his last injury purely because he is our best linemen out of desperation. Now we have jack to play for, I see no need to risk it further personally.

The Smith thing, speaking for myself, was born out of him looking real good pre-season. He, at least to the naked eye, appears to have a rare combination of size and great athletic ability which could work wonders in the ZBS scheme. (Something I don't like but we're stuck with.). I'd just like to see what we have and if he is worth keeping going forward these last 6, dead games.

Hail.

I think the "I don't care what punishment they receive" thing is a kind of crap way to look at it. I don't want anyone to get hurt or beat up, especially guys who actually want to be on our football team and are playing their butts off. Whether they're here next year or not is a moot point; they're still our players, and you protect your players to the best of your abilities.

And I agree Willie looked good in preseason, but we have to keep things in perspective; that was preseason, and he wasn't going up against the best talent.

And I say this all the time, but even though things are bad, we are still trying to win, and we are still trying to keep Grossman and Beck healthy.

We are all hoping we can find the next Joe Jacoby ........its been about 30 years so we are due :-)

Great news on Trent though I hope they play it conservative. I would not IR him but I also would not let him play until he is 100% (or as close as any NFL lineman gets to 100%).

Some good news

Finally. We are in desperate need of good news around here.

FWIW, it's the injuries to young players that has me most bummed/angry and less our W/L record. Primarily because I just want to see things as an investment for the future - an injury to a key player halts their development (I'm still smarting from Hankerson's hip injury).

I agree 100%. I was crushed when Jenkins went out, and I was outright devastated when Hankerson went down.

no kidding. we started off the year so well with relatively few injuries. then we got hit hard.. and at key positions.

i was so mad yesterday that i didnt get to see hankerson, then trent went down and it looked ugly.. these injuries to the young guys are frustrating, especially when its the only thing you have to look forward to in a bad season.
