That's funny. RG3 may not come out. Would probably be the number one pick in 2013.

And he will quite possibly be a top 5 pick if he comes out this year. With the rookie pay scale there isn't nearly as much difference between taken #1 and #5 overall as there used to be. Either way, if RGIII decides not to enter the draft I think it quite possibly means he has decided to do something else besides football for a career (which is fine). Think about it. He will have his masters after this year so unless he wants a PhD just for the hell of it, he doesn't have much else to prove academically. He is thinking of law school, well that's 3 years right there; there would be no difference between him going into the NFL now and getting his law degree when he is done and him doing law school for 1 year, playing for years in the NFL, and then going back.

Barkley is good. Although he doesn't possess the strongest arm, he has great accuracy. When he does throw deep, he hits his receivers most of the time. I also like his athleticism. He scrambles well when the play breaks down.

Well that's good, cause Arm Strength is overrated and can be improved a lot in the pros.

Title says it all. I don't think it should be "Suck for Luck". I'm convinced that Matt Barkley is going to end up the better QB than Andrew Luck (and who knows if either will end up as the best QB in the draft class). That's not to say I think Luck Suck's, but if I had the #1 pick I'd take Barkley right now (okay, we'll see how this plays through the rest of the season).h
Count me in on the Barkley draft pick. I've been watching Barkley real close since the Stanford game. I think he's the one for us.

As I've stated multiple times, this is not possible to do.

  • 2 weeks later...

A couple more weeks under his belt and Barkley has not done anything to dispel my notion that he's an NFL ready QB. Buzz out here in Los Angeles is that NFL scouts are saying that Andy Dalton really helps Barkley out draft-wise, given that he's also a 6'2 QB.

Of course I could easily see Barkley being a very strong #2 pick as well...

#1 It's ridiculous to even think for a second that a professional team would tank the season to move up in the draft. It doesn't happen, period, EVER.

#2 Even if we lose out because we suck something awful right now, The Colts have a 3 game lead on us for the #1 pick. It's also ridiculous to think the Colts are going to win 3-4 games this season. They probably will go 1-15 or 0-16. My guess is 0-16 because weeks 15 and 16 they have the Titans and Texans, both fighting for potential playoff spots or the Texans fighting for a better seeding. Their last game is against the Jags and they suck, so they will be looking to close out the season on a positive note by winning.

I've been defending Matt Barkley for weeks now, and am glad to see other people are coming around.

The guy plays under center and has thrown 39 TDs. His accuracy on intermediate throws is off the charts. His footwork is pro-ready (he does 3, 5, 7 step drops). He goes through his read when the pressure hits.

This guys is who we need.

With Barkley, i feel like you can put him into a offense and he can start winning right away. RGIII there are way more question marks and we can't afford that. I rather take a top 10 qb in barkley once he gets to the NFL than someone who might be a bust or have a potential being a top 5 qb

I've been back and forth between RG3 and Barkley and now I'm back on the Barkley bandwagon. He just seems like the most well rounded and NFL ready of the two. It was kind of worrisome seeing RG3's backup come in and perform well without any bumps. Arghh..I hate all this speculation. April can't get here soon enough.

I agree with this completely. I think Shanahan will be more inclinded to take Barkley because he's already playing in a pro style offense and has less question marks next to his name. There's still a really solid chance that RG3 stays in school at this point (which nobody seems to be mentioning). I only hope we can somehow drift below the Cards in the standings because they may take him since Kolb is clearly a fraud. The other teams that may be above us (Rams, Panthers, Vikings) all don't need a QB.

I was pretty interested in RGIII, but after watching Barkley last night, there's no doubt I want him over RGIII. I'd be happy with one of the other guys, but he was incredible in that game.

Welcome aboard.

I've posted a version of this elsewhere, but I'm getting sick of people knocking Barkley for being a USC quarterback.

This year he...

Set the USC single game touchdown record twice (6)

Set the PAC-12 record for touchdowns in a season (39)

Was the first QB to start since being a true freshman for a top 5 team since the 70s

Played big in his big games (Oregon and Stanford).

Did all of this while playing under center where he showed mastery of the 3,5, and 7 foot step drops.

The guy is special. No only that but his greatest strength of being able to progress through multiple reads, even while under pressure, sets him apart from the other QB prospects.

The guy has got "it."
