Darkstarr
These are nothing moves, just filler in case of injury. I look at it as try outs. Beck is getting a 10 game try out to see who stays between him and sexy rexy while we draft a rookie qb. Helu will be given 10 games to see if he can be a starter and learn to pick up blitzers like Hightower was, Hankerson is getting his chance with Moss going down. Get 8 games on tape and look at who is progressing so u know what you have to look for in the draft as Shanny continues to rebuild the franchise. I look at it after 2 yrs we have the defense in place, with maybe 4 OL, rb (helu),fb (young), 2 wr (hankerson, moss),te (davis) in place for next year. Let's see if they show they can carry the load and draft around that.

SWO-tarious
Would have loved to see Brandon Banks being cut as well. Dude, is a one trick pony and hasn't impressed this season. There is no debating he is has lost a step if not more post knee injury. There isn't the burst of speed we saw in the past. +1. I get nervous every time I see this guy standing back there alone and unafraid on punt returns. It's like the ball is covered in butter with this guy. HogNose
These signings are roster filler and nothing more. Why is it that so many fans start critiquing these types of signings like they big off-season free agent moves? These are depth signings...and nothing long term. Relax. KingGibbs
Making moves for the sake of making moves. None of these guys will make any contributions to this team. None.
TheLongshot
Is there a bad time for a team that isn't good to work to be better in the future? I'm just saying that in the middle of the NFL season, you aren't likely to find prime players sitting around by the phone. To expect to find guys with long-term potential is a little silly. KingGibbs
James Harrison, Arian Foster, Donald Penn, Rod SmithDo you want me to keep going? Yeah I do. That is such a small sample and I can't recall, but were those guys pulled off the street? Just for the record. These moves don't bother me, but to think that they are going to amount to anything is delusional.
PeterMP
Yeah I do. That is such a small sample and I can't recall, but were those guys pulled off the street?Just for the record. These moves don't bother me, but to think that they are going to amount to anything is delusional. All of them were AT LEAST on a practice squad during a season and could have been pulled off by any team. Tom Nalen, Dwayne Carswell (and Rod Smith were all starters on the same Broncos teams), Cary Williams (starting DB for the Ravens now came from the Titans practice squad), Rob Ninkovich (a starting LB for the Patriots bounced around for a while, including the Dolphins practice squad). Good teams find good players in the "garbage" heap. And again, I'm not saying the probability is high. The probability of a 7th round draft pick turning into a good player isn't high, but I've never heard somebody suggest that teams shouldn't bother to draft people in the 7th round. If other NFL GMs are as smart as you, they would have picked up players from other teams PS every week. There will always be an exception for sure but that's not the Norm. You gave us names that did pan out. I can also give you A LOT more names that didn't pan out on PS. Your sample problably account 1% at best over how many years? pjfootballer
Pretty clear Royster isn't tearing it up in practice otherwise you'd figure he'd be promoted. If only stud RT's where floating out there on the waiver wire, be nice. Not to mention that if he was so good, some of these RB starved teams would have plucked him off the squad by now. ---------- Post added November-9th-2011 at 01:19 PM ---------- Stallworth if a FA at the end of the year. There is no cap hit from letting him walk away. Samethign with Byrd. Scott's cap hit next year was 650,000.That's not a whole lot of salary cap relief. Plus we are already way under the cap anyway for next year. ---------- Post added November-9th-2011 at 01:22 PM ---------- I don't see how Balmer is an upgrade over Scott? He looks better on the sidelines as an inactive. He fits the suit (Johnny Bravo- Brady Bunch reference).

Your sample problably account 1% at best over how many years? For the majority of teams, it doesn't make sense to do at least not to the same extent. I don't think it really makes sense for any other team in our division to the same extent. Even for a team like the Colts, where depending on Manning's health they might contend next year, it doesn't make sense. Even for our roster, I'm talking about a handful positions. Certainly, not to the level of a player every week. It SHOULD be the exception. Most people seem to be admitting that this team is the middle of a serious overall and won't really be competitive for the next few years, making it an exception, and then ONLY a few roster spots on that team. I've said it was a low probability event, repeatedly. So are 7th round draft picks succeding. I've never heard anybody argue that a team should just NOT draft 7th rounders. I've also given you the guys that have gone on to be starters ONLY (and I probably haven't even given you all of them, only the ones that I knew or could easily find). I haven't given you the guys that go on to be quality special teams players that help contribute to wins for a 3 or 4 years and then are out of the league, BUT you need those players too. acuratl1984
The New TE they signed to the Practice Squad looks good on paper... 6'6" 249lb runs a 4.48 40... Sounds good to me if he can run routes.
