Significant lack of talent

Lets be honest folks, we just aren't talented enough to win in this league. You can only grind out games and scrape by teams for so long before the cream rises to the crop.

On offense we have maybe one legitimate TALENT in Fred Davis, and even then he isn't elite(but he is good). Our RBs are a bunch of guys who are okay but none of them really strike fear. The receivers are servicable with Moss, without him they are probably among the worst in the league. The OL is quick and athletic but also small and easily overpowered. Then of course there is the QB situation, where we are easily the worst in the league(maybe tied with Miami).

The defense has been getting exposed the last couple of weeks. There is some talent there but a lot of it is undisciplined and lacks IQ. We get beat constantly by misdirection and delay plays because there is so much emphasis on making the big play that we fail at making the little ones. Up front our DL isn't shedding blocks and that's causing our LBs to get overwhelmed. Speaking of which, our LBs can't cover at all. Orakpo is a one trick pony and has been fairly inconsistent at pass rushing. Fletcher is old now and Mcintosh is mediocre. The secondary can't cover at all and the CBs need to be overhauled.

Looking at our roster, there just isn't a lot there. How many of our starters would legitimately start on a playoff team? Three, maybe four tops?

I don't expect this team to really contend until 2013 at the earliest. We need another offseason or two like last year to continue overhauling and getting rid of the garbage from the Vinny era.

I just finished saying this is still Vinny's product from a talent standpoint. I don't think Shan has really put his stamp on this team yet. LaRon, Brian, London, Santana, Fred, Chris are all Vinny,Zorn,Gibbs players. I want to know when I'm going to see Mike's team. I think it starts when we find our QB.

What I don't understand is that our coach had all off season to find a QB and decided to stick with back up QBs?

Didn't have many QBs to choose from. But why didn't he look into a faster young RB (Helus is slow as ****) and young WR (Hank looks bad early on) ?? We need talent at skill positions. Mike needs to answer some questions and the answers can't all be blamed on him needing to watch film.

Agreed. When Shanahan said it was going to take 4-5 years he wasn't kidding.

Because the others weren't great options either.

Orton would have cost us picks and has competed with Grossman for a starting spot before.

Garrard wasn't an option during the offseason, he was cut late.

Palmer would have cost us two firsts.

Locker may have been a target, but was selected before us. As was Newton. As was Gabbert (although I didn't want him).

Dalton is the only other QB I would have really wanted, and the Shanahan's must not have liked him. They probably knew any solution would be a stop gap, so why not wait until there are a lot of options? This is the year to pick a QB. If we don't do it this offseason, count me in the completely baffled group. Besides, today... I stress today... QB was not our problem.

A lot of people have been saying this for a while....

Vinny literally set us back multiple years.

Shanny is working on it, but he can't do it all in one season.

The effort on defense was disheartening though. They got torn up.

Um the best players on our team are from the Vin dog? The question here is what the hell is Mike doing to change that. Helu? Hank? Gaffeny?

WAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

We should trade all our draft picks for Luck though right? He would turn this team into a Super Bowl team!!! Screw depth, screw the fact that our 2nd string safety wouldn't be on any other team in the NFL. Our that Barnes can't even cover over top a WR on 3rd and 5 and gives him the 5 yard out. I could of ran that out pattern on Barnes and scored 6.

Orakpo could start for a playoff team, but he is horrible in coverage, horrible against the run and over pursues like a crackhead. He should be a passing down specialist on a playoff team but definitely not an every down guy.

Flame me all you want, but when one of your best players is consistently making mistakes.. you're a bad team.

Agreed.

I like Orakpo but he is misused in the 3-4. He needs to be a 4-3 DE and not have to worry about covering guys.

He is being exposed week in and week out. He has the tools but he needs to learn how to make adjustments and develop some pass rushing moves.

The Redskins are starting to resemble a MASH unit!

People want to rant about the lack of talent up front but we're now missing 4 starters on offense to injury and 5 if you include the replacement of Grossman.

It's hard enough to rebuild a team to begin with but reaching down into the depth of the reserves is a tall order.
